Julian Edelman doesn't tend to get the credit and respect he deserves around the league, but one former player took notice in a recent ESPN segment, putting him ahead of some notable names which created some controversy.

Behind a paywall but two key takeaways:

    • Wynn is running at full speed and expected to be ready for training camp
    • The coaching staff is “fired up” about Jamie Collins on the field & in the building

Because those reports were probably highly inaccurate. They almost certainly did not come from a U Georgia or patriots orthopedic surgeon. Do you live in a different world than I do, where all of the things that are reported by unnamed sources are true?

I was being facetious. When it was reported that his knee was "bone on bone" in the Summer of 2018 I noted it was absurd if people believed it and have been repeating the phrase ever since to highlight the stupid medical news reports on the Internet. Read my post again and you might find a bit of flippant humor in it.

Didn’t want to make a new thread but I don’t remember seeing this video posted. If a dupe, apologies.

I really, really hope this young man makes it work here. It's not going to be easy; this is clearly the most difficult offense in the league to learn and at which to be proficient, and facing Stephon Gilmour throughout minicamp certainly didn't help - in fact, I thought it was a mistake to do that to him. But if he can firstly block his man and minimize his drops, then maybe Tom will give him a look every now & then.

We won't have a choice unless Gordon makes a miraculous comeback. There simply isn't much behind Edelman. So we will have to rely heavily on him and hope he is good out of the gate.

Why would those reports be absurd ?

When people with connections like Lombardi said "bone-on-bone" he didn't literally mean there is no cartilage left but that this would become a second contract issue.

He had a knee scope leading up to camp in each of this first two seasons. So far odds look amazingly right that the folks who said a second contract might be an issue for him will be similarly right as they were with Gurley.

That will/would suck for him if he is a one contract RB but we would probably not extend him anyway and could get those 4 or 5 good seasons out of him. For him personally not great but for us it shouldn't make a huge difference as I don't think we would give him a 2nd contract and RBs usually hit the wall at 26 anyway.

just an FYI, there was a main forum topic on this. Not sure what sort of "swift" recovery can be expected since his arm had to be amputated on scene. It's likely his football career is done.. The best that we can hope for is that he is able to live some sort of "normal" life and that depression doesn't over-take him..

    Hi Luuked,

Thanks for the comment. One person in the press said that Sony had a potential medical issue, which led to comments of "bone-on-bone", which led to he will not get a second contract in the NFL. If you listen to Lombardi's podcast on the order of QB prospects in the 2018 draft I am not sure he has a lot of connections ;). When PatsFans has the order of quarterbacks to be drafted more correct than an "expert with connections" (in this case fill in Lombardi) I think we can put that expert in the "Borges 'Richard Seymour' bucket". That is not an insult to PatsFans draft analysis guys, but a compliment. I would trust PatsFans before I trusted Lombardi. Maybe I am partial to Reamer, Long Distance, BGC, BobDigital, and many others. I even read Captain Marshmallow, Andy, and when I am in a good mood, notes from Dartmouth.

All the comments were made by the press with no medical qualifications while the Patriots had medical professionals examine Sony and drafted him. Unless I missed something, the press' Sony comments are projections. Yes we have been told that Sony had a couple of knee scopes but we do not know what that means, and if the scopes will impact a second contract. Some people being correct about Gurley does not mean some people are right about Sony. Not sure how "odds look amazingly right" when we know nothing about the issue. Instead of Gurley's knees, let's talk about Curtis Martin's knees (11 years in the NFL) and how the comments on Curtis' knees were completely wrong.

I guess we will have to wait and see on the 2nd contract. In the meantime, you can believe the press and their projections while I remain very skeptical.

You are using anecdotal evidence among even more anecdotal evidence to make a point. The counter point would be that he nailed that the Ravens would pick Lamar Jackson weeks before the draft right when they signed RG3.

Hell he mentioned his surprise/shock with Gurley's second contract given the rumours about his knees long before his issues became a public thing. Similarly he broke the Dolphins moving on from Landry and Sherman being shopped before anyone else. Suggesting he has "not a lot of connections" after a lifetime in the NFL is a bit bold. The reality is that deals sometimes fall through, plans change and there is certainly also a bit of a misinformation campaign going on.

With all due respect to the posters in the draft board they have not worked with/ for Belichick, Walsh or Davis. Whenever Lombardi stops with his gossipy stuff and actually delves into the depths of the sport (be it how to evaluate OL, what teams look for in RBs and so on) there is nobody here that can even approach his knowledge of the game. Which is normal and expected if you look at the time he has spend around extraordinary people.

See I am not suggesting he is some kind of genius but that his lifetime of experience has left him with a lot of insight he absorbed and connections he made.

Again, the point is that his knee issues would become a problem in terms of longevity and not something immediate. The Pats evaluating him and giving a green light for drafting does not contradict that at all.

I mean sure be my guest and argue that his knee scopes before the season even starts were purely coincidental.
