One thing to mention is that this sounds like a balance problem for the game and it could very well be corrected or changed. A strategy that worked in Season 1 will not necessarily work in season 2 or 3. Of course, if it changes remains to be seen.
However, if we do go down the road of cutting back-ups to win, I would love to see another Patsfans based team so those backups have a soft landing.
Of course, I have a vested interest here, since I'm the 2nd string tight end, but part of the fun of the game is that it's people from these forums.
The new Energy changes are gonna curb teams like these:

We are planning on making some adjustments to energy and game XP for Season 2, as discussed in this thread (among a couple others):
http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=79240&page=1
The main changes will be:
- You will be able to lose up to 40 energy from your energy from one game, instead of 30, if you play a ton of plays and don't have the stamina to keep up. This means you will need to re-think your interpretation of the energy bar. It is meant to be an approximation of your player being worn down over the course of the whole season, rather than a measure of day-to-day rest. You're not going to be able to play 120 plays on hard every week and keep your bar at 100.
- The effect of low in-game energy on your performance will be slightly higher than it is now. This effect will be worked in a little slower, so we can watch the results and dial it in to the right amount, and to give you a little time to adjust.
- XP will be reworked a little to give more XP for fewer plays, but the maximum play cutoff will be lower. You'll still be able to get around the same amount of XP, but you will only need to play 40-50 plays to get it instead of 90. This means backups can get some more XP without "stealing" from your starters too much.
- Energy bars for all players will be reset to 100 at the start of season 2, along with morale bars.
- We will reset team chemistry for all teams to 70/70/70 after week 2 of season 2 has concluded (4 days into the season), to allow you a little time to make the moves you'll need if you want to add depth to your team. Chemistry will not affect in-game performance until then, either.
This basically underscores the need to include some depth on your team.
