I think Sheriff Goodell has decided that antagonizing Eagles' fan Senator Comcast may not be a prudent move at this point in time. They want the NFLN to be available in all households as part of the plan for the NFL to maximize profits; lawsuits and congressional inquiries will not accomplish that goal.

This is a ridiculous penalty. In fact it almost encourages tampering, as long as you get the verbal agreement to sign a contract. Instead of getting into a bidding war for this player, you can have him at x price and lose a 5th round pick?

I think roster building has more of an impact on a team than taping something visible to all from an illegal location. I don't get the "well they didn't even get Briggs" line of thinking, either; so, if I attempt to steal from your house but fail to take anything, does that absolve me of any and all wrongdoing?

Was there any explanation for how they determined that it was definitely "tampering"?

Matt Walsh taped the phone conversations, gave it to Polian and that's it.
