Just read this:

“…….
Making matters worse is the latest rumor about who the head official is likely going to be for the game, and that is Adrian Hill, who called just one game for the Patriots in 2025.

The problem is that it was the Week 6 game against the Saints, which saw a ridiculous amount of penalties and touchdowns taken away from DeMario Douglas. Although they inevitably won, it was still a frustrating way to get there, and now they'll have to deal with the crew that loves to throw flags at the start of the year.

The NFL can't help but screw over the Patriots in their brutal season opener

As if playing in a season opener on a Wednesday night in Seattle wasn't bad enough, the NFL decided to give the Patriots another challenge they'll have to overcome by putting the crew of officials who called the second-most penalties in the entire league last year in the game.”

MSN article:

Not sure I agree with their later comment “The Patriots have had a habit of racking those up with avoidable missteps, making Hill's presence even more relevant.”
I think that is a bit recency (Mayo) bias. Not sure “Vrabel” teams have this tendency, in game 1, or otherwise, but not looking up Titans penalty stats just to prove a MSoron wrong, thank you!

More info on Ref Hill:

Adrian Hill: Referee Penalty Trends & How it may impact betting

NFL teams were informed at Wednesday’s league meeting that the three people making replay decisions this season from league headquarters in New York will be replay veterans Mark Butterworth and Mike Annibale, along with former NFL referee and head of the officiating department Al Riveron. Riveron rejoins the league after spending the past four years as the ACC’s supervisor of officials.

Interesting notes (and an intriguing life history) on his Wiki bio:

HE NEVER PLAYED FOOTBALL!!!! But somehow made to the highest level, he must truly LOVE THE GAME.

He did not play football in high school because he was undersized. He would play the role of referee when his friends played pickup football.

He actually is a ROCKET SCIENTIST!!
……In the 1990s, Hill worked as a NASA contractor at Goddard Space Flight Center for what became Raytheon Technologies. In 2000, he was hired as an aerospace software engineer at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory Space Exploration Sector. …..

Ok, I’m exhausted after posting 3 things, I’m going back to lurking.

Whoa, software lead on a bunch of significant space launches. And in his spare time, just for relaxation, an NFL crew chief. This man has invented a whole new level of cool.

This guy is a joke of a reff

He was horrendous in that Saints game last year. Hopefully a national audience will fix that.

Well he does have Fucik (1st year official side-judge) on his team now. So he has that going for him. ….. When he makes a mistake he can just yell “F###” and everyone will think the side judge is to blame.

That is an impressive human being.

Hating the Patriots and screwing us whenever possible is chapter in the NFL Officiating Manual. Inflate your balls, ladies and gentlemen!
