I went through this logic a while back and showed why the franchise tag doesn't work. Because the player holds out and eventually you trade him for peanuts.

I think it has more to do with paying the estate tax due both the Feds and MA when he passes on. That amount will surprise most folks. The state tax can be avoided for most of us, but not when you live here or the business is located in MA. He will be paying 16% of the value of his estate to MA after the first two million exclusion. And unlike the Feds, there is no installment method to pay the tax on the value of a business over a 10 to 15 year period of time. For MA, the max is 3 years and it is not automatic. For the Feds, just another cool 40% of the assets less a generous deduction of 15 million and deducting the state taxes paid. There are other deductions the biggest being charitable donations but the man is looking at a huge estate tax bill as are most wealthy folks. This is one of the primary reasons why rich people are leaving states such as Illinois, MA, NY and others that have estate taxes once they reach retirement age. As mentioned, does not help if the business is here but many businesses can be moved, such as Ken Griffin and Citadel from Illinois to Florida. If Kraft is worth 10 billion dollars, he will be paying approximately 1.6 billion dollars to MA. I can can see why wealthy people move to other states to avoid this.
He's also played 88 percent of his games over the past two seasons. Numbers can be used in many ways.

OK, so then OL and DE and LB continue to be a weakness as you draft for a position which you now have covered and of course you don't even have a first rounder in 2028 and by that time AJ Brown will be old anyway and you just pissed away 3 seasons through bad strategy and bad planning.

Why would they count what was a season ending innjury in his rookie year as proof of anything overall about his durability when he's played in 88 percent of the games in the following TWO years?
