Curran: "In my estimation... [Gonzo would like to] be treated as if he's at the table in 2027." [previous title: "say goodbye to gonzo"]

Oh stop being such a wuss. Politics is verboten period....regardless of beliefs. You know it.. I know it.
I wish that were true. The mods never seem to notice the bashing, they only notice the response to the bashing.

There are a few, who due to their prolific or technically valuable posts ( exempli gratis Ken) who get more rope w political content.
But even there, the last 3 times I saw, example mentioned was asked to delete his scurrilous TDS rants, and did so ( once he got it off his chest and calmed down) within 5-10 responses.

@Ian is in a tough spot. He. needs to keep traffic, while being fair. He has gone through a good number of mods over the years with large swings of control/ overwatch styles. IMO I think he had the smallest mod depth ever last year, but they did among the best jobs I recall. A lot of “hands off - let them play” attitude, but there when it mattered.

There's a lot of low karma ego-fueled personal attacking on this board and not enough agree to disagree in my opinion.

But, whatever. You be you.

How silly for us struggling wage slaves to watch these stratospheric salary machinations. "34-35 36- million or I will be disrespected." Really? If not for television they would be playing for blue collar dollars.

It's not the money. The money is just how they keep score. What they really want is acknowledgment that they are the best.

The funny thing is the Pats probably can legitimately push back with Gonzalez on the Witherspoon deal to some extent.

Witherspoon received the top 5th year option worth 21m. Gonzalez received the 2nd highest 5th year option worth 18m. The reason, although they have both been 2nd team allpros, Witherspoon has been selected to the probowl all 3 seasons, Gonzalez has only been selected once. Witherspoon was also selected as a top 10 pick, ahead of Gonzalez in the 2023 draft, and Witherspoon has already regularly been a team captain with the Hawks.

I'm not saying Witherspoon is a better player or Gonzalez isn't worth a bigger contract. I'm saying the Patriots can (and probably are) legitimately asking why do you deserve significantly more than him during negotiations, especially if Gonzalez's team is genuinely asking for a deal that completely resets the market.
Isn't it too late to make that (perfectly reasonable) argument after Kraft has publicly stated that he'd make Gonzo the highest paid cornerback?

Now do the billionaire class. These guys are very aware that a $60m cash layout means you can't make the 12% compounded gains on that money.

They are very willing to pay $300m in annual salary, but if you're asking them to shell out guaranteed money into the future, they see it as a loss of money (because, for them, it is). $300m paid out today is a totally different amount than $300m paid out last year for this year.

Only the Patriots would drag this out so long with one of their best players. Every single other team would have him inked by now.

Kraft is one of, if not THE, cheapest owners in the NFL, and it's on full display once again.

15% of the cap next year is $50m

No one is talking about a $50m contract for Gonzalez.

Schefter said they are not willing to do Witherspoon's # never mind something that is 65% higher.

Damn, I thought the cap was 200M......

What is that, mustard? Who's paying for mustard?

I made the joke last season and I'll say it again. If Maye duplicates 2025, Bobby is going need round the clock care after he finds out what he'll have to pay for a top QB.

I do strongly suspect the recent sale of a small percentage of the team was about cash flow to be able to handle some of these upcoming contracts.

And winning the competition to get what they want in the contract is how the egos of owners and players can compete

Yet you're white knighting for the billionaires owner class.

I got news for Bob.
Maye will not duplicate 2025.
He'll surpass it. Could be MVP incoming.
Keep medics on standby at Kraft household.

Then Jonathon will be taking over fairly soon because Bobby will have a heart attack and keel over when he finds out the number. In 2019, he was balking paying the GOAT $50M for two years. Lol.

$330m next year
Well 33M AAV is a nice and tidy 10% of the cap...well worth it for a CB1. I'd do a deal right now and give him a BIGGER guarantee and more years.... in 3-4 years 33M AAV will be a bargain if the cap keeps growing like it has....

Maye is gonna be another problem....he will most definitely be the highest paid QB in NFL history this time next year, IMO. I hope we do a deal for Maye BEFORE the Bears and Commanders do for Williams and Daniels....
