Patriots Player Departure Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick

I’ll leave it alone after this, but I don’t understand why it’s hurting people’s feelings that Doubs is simply a better receiver than Boutte…?…So what lol. While he was certainly clutch in certain moments, Boutte was a #2/3 here while we were lacking at the position. Doubs was always GB’s best/ most reliable receiver since he arrived. Christian Watson’s a one trick pony. Doubs is better at all three levels of the field, the RZ & has a bigger head haha. Doubs is relatively unknown to many here, so it’s understandable to be skeptical, but those of us who are familiar with BOTH receivers will tell you Doubs is a more well rounded/polished receiver. Nobody’s saying he’s Chase, Puka or JSN…simply better than Boutte. That’s it. He’s already been killing it in practice & barely knows the system, so the connection with Maye is there. Also, why did brass give Doubs $70M, when they could’ve simply extended Boutte with a similar contract?????? There’s your answer…You don’t have to agree..

It is what it is..

Elliot Wolf strikes again. Horrible trade.

Former 6th rounder for a complete JAG and a seventh rounder.
A halfway decent GM gets a 5th rounder for KB

Wolf sucks at trades. Give me one example where he did not overpay.

My first thought is that we have to put @PatsFan2 on suicide watch.

Don't dink too much bourbon, my brother, and if you need an Uber you have my number. Tread lightly for a day or two - it will be OK.

I'm going to be in the minority on this but I think it's a fair trade. I like Boutte and didn't like the 7th rounder, but looking at Reed I see a guy who could become their starting strong safety in 27'. He's a very good athlete with good size (211), and excellent speed for a safety. He's an excellent tackler and should play the hybrid s/lb nickel position for them. I think he's a kid who they must have really like in the 25' draft, but had already taken Woodson and had other priorities at the time. We will see how it pans out, but their evaluations of players in the last 2 draft's have been excellent, and they need run stopping depth, so I'm not going to crap on the move.
I agree.

Plus, the Pats got a good look at him when he started against them in the playoffs.

I'm usually one of the more Pollyanna positive folks on here. I think we gave up a decent receiver for a safety and a future walmart shelf stocker. I also think before the end of the season the meme below will be appropriate wr injury wise versus what Boutte will provide for the Texans. Happy to be wrong.

We only have 1.5 LBs so we are going back to BB's big nickel. 5 safties at a time. Who needs a LB?

Phil Perry also said they should hold out for a 3rd. It's not just this board.
Bedard said a 5th.

There is a movement in the league to a 3-safety package ("Big Nickel"), particularly against the increasingly prevalent 12 personnel. Maybe that's the angle here. Reed has decent size and is fast, and we haven't been able to cover TEs for years now.
(And most here are forgetting Boutte is a 1-year rental who still needs to be paid, while Reed is cheap and under contract for a few more years).

For what it’s worth, Jayden Reed’s one game where he played max snaps was a Thursday night victory over Buffalo where the Texans D was the story of the game, recording eight sacks on Bills quarterback Josh Allen and forcing three turnovers.

Jaylen Reed had a team-high 12 total tackles (9 solo), 1 fumble recovery, which he returned 9 yards to the Buffalo 22-yard line, 181 defensive snaps (83% of defensive plays), Additional special teams contribution with 17 snaps.
Reed's the young safety depth behind Byard the team was missing.

I'm not sure why that would hurt feelings. They didn't trade Boutte for Doubs. They traded him for what appears fto be an unproven safety. So it's a proven no. 3 who's about to cost real money, against an unproven safety. Sure I guess, we have a lot of receivers. The thing to do is get rid of the one with the highest yards per catch.

What it comes down to is that we've got a lot of Bouttes, ex the insane yards per catch and the insane camp he's had. Then there's the need to pay him something next year with two blue-chips recently signed. We have a ton of outside guys. We have a lot of "mid" guys at WR, and despite his insane yards/catch, despite his impressive camp, some genius thinks we needed a safety that bad -- no, this this safety that bad, whoever he is.

I don't know much about how great Doubs' camp has been. I know that Boutte's first couple weeks, it was brilliant day after brilliant day. Maybe that shifted.

But the main thing is that there's no reason to argue whether Boutte is better than Doubs. Nobody wants to fire Doubs to make a roster spot.

It'll be fun to watch what Boutte can, or can't, do, in a new environment.

We need the safety. We had 8 WRs who could legitimately make the roster. Something had to give, it was either Boutte or Douglas. I imagine there was even less interest in Douglas.

I think Reed can be a decent player - and the Patriots desperately needed safety depth. (Brandon Schooler is not Safety Depth).

A 5th would make me feel way better

I was hoping Saunders would be stepping up, and it even looked like he might be.

I do like Reed as an addition.

Against the usual pats fans suspects… anything management does is wrong…

Totally predictable. Can usually name who wrote most posts just from their reaction…

It would be more fun to watch if it weren’t so tedious…

Right on the money. Same miserable f*ck talking the same old ****. Then,,when things go right they say @ I was with them all the way........."
