Texans Potentially a Trade Partner with Patriots For Boutte?

Why is right to have Boutte risk injury by playing against backups?

Teams have plenty of tape on Boutte.
Decisions need to be made about WRs not amongst the top 5 - AJB, Doubs, Hollins, Pop and Williams. Also, there are just so many drives and offensive plays to a game. Maye and company should get a series next preseason game.

I do believe that the Pats dont want to appear as eager sellers either. So, they come off as perfectly content on keeping Boutte if a reasonable offer does not come along.

I believe after last night's game that any of the 7 would be claimed by multiple teams, if waived. That includes Chism.

It's also possible that Chism could even bring a late pick.

This would mean there's either a trade or we keep 7. But forget about Chism practice squad.

Why not 8 or 9? Dorner and DeGennaro are probably about comparable to Chism. Surely, we don't want to lose them.

I would think it a serious error to have 7 WR's on the 53-man roster after the trade deadline. There are simply better uses for the roster spot.

We are in a position that comes rarely in New England. For the 5-6 WR roster spots, we have NINE to choose from. To be clear, who would be upset if DeGennaro was on the roster as our #6 developmental WR (similar to Chism last year).

Chism nay not even be 7 on this team. Who cares which of the guys not good enough to get in the field end up on another teams roster or out practice squad? They all aren’t going help us this year and going forward there isn’t pronounced difference.
Borderline NFL players stay borderline NFL players 98% of the time.

Did Boutte bang your mother or something?

Rosters spots aren't only about positions, they are about players too.
You don't keep any extra Olineman over a WR if you don't think the OLmen will truly develop and you think the WR can.
Surely keeping Brady as the 4th QB his rookie year was not ideal from a total roster perspective, but obv they valued what he could be more than keeping another position player just to even out the roster.

Poor Bouttes days are numbered in New England.

You were -

Wrong about Maroney - traded. The Break Dancer was your # 1 RB.
Wrong about Polk - Retired. Last season,12 months ago you claimed he had upside. HAHAHA
Wrong about Baker - Nobody knows where he is.
Wrong about Hollins - Still here practicing as WR3 with Maye.

And, now youre all in on Boutte - the kiss of death.

We NEED 46 players at certain positions. Therefore, we have 7 bottom of the roster players who could be in any group. That leaves lots and lots of options for the last 7 positions.

You don't have 7 OL's on the roster because your #8 WR and #9 WR is better than your #8 OL and #9 OL. It is NOT good roster management to simply keep your 53 best players.

I agree that once you have filled the needed positions on the roster, they are choices that have more to do with player quality and schemes than on strict position count.

I have posted that we NEED 22 players on Offense.
2 QB
4 RB/FB
5 WR
9 OL
2 TE

Defense NEEDS to include these 20 although we could add on more to each group.
4 DL
4 EDGE
4 ILB
5 CB
3 S

We will carry more for many possible reasons
1) judgement regarding scheme and position. For example, some might choose a 3rd QB, 10th OL and a 3rd TE.
2) How likely a player is to be available to us on our PS
3) How difficult it is to find a player at a particular position
4) future plans regarding this position
5) for development even though the player is likely to be inactive in most games (Wallace last year and even Chism)
6) the player was a lacrosse team captain

isn't Boutte a good get for any team that needs a WR?
24 yrs old. 3 year vet. improved each season. versatile. hungry. playing for a deal.
what team wouldn't want that?

Yes, he is, and yes they should want him.
So make an offer worthwhile.
For a 5th you can go pound salt.

This is the winning post.

The greatest coach of all time kept 4 QB's in order to keep the greatest QB of all time.

Building a roster is not linear.

As always you’ve got nothing but made up BS.

Who said after the trade deadline?
Most of us are talking about who will be on the patriots this year, not who will be on the 53 man roster on cutdown day. Those who want Boutte to be on the roster want him to be part of the team.

If all you are suggesting is that we might have 7 WR's on the roster on the evening of the cut to 53, then sure, that's fine. After all, that makes almost no difference to anything. I expect that we will trade Boutte. Perhaps, it will before the cut to 53. More likely it will be in the week after that cut and before Game One. I don't think that Vrabel would wait longer than that to move on. However, he could wait as long as the trade deadline.

AJ Brown
Dobbs
Hollins
Williams
Boutte (TBD)
Pop Douglas
Chism
