Texans Potentially a Trade Partner with Patriots For Boutte?

What exactly is a Boutte truther?
This has nothing to do with feelings. I don't know him, don't have a Boutte jersey.
We are a better team with him on the roster in 2026 than trading him for a future 5th rd pick.
We will roster 6 WR, Boutte is one of our 6 best.
That math is as simple as it gets.
Perhaps it's your feelings considering you said him being gone was "a done deal" several weeks ago.
The team spent vast resources to replace their two boundary WR’s with Brown and Doubs. They still rep Douglas as their starting slot WR. That’s three…

Kyle Williams has looked uncoverable in joint practices and game one of preseason. Chism just keeps making plays in the slot. Those two appear to be the best rotational players on the boundary and in the slot. That’s five…

Hollins is unique, he’s tall, big, really strong, fearless in traffic, blocks like a beast and can play special teams… plus Josh loves him. That’s six…

Two UDFA’s in Dorner and DeGennerro have looked great in camp. They have 5 or 6 TD’s scored between them. Like guys you could stash on the practice squad for pennies or might push for roster spots in the next two preseason games. That’s eight:..

Boutte truthers are people who refuse to accept that the WR position itself has roles, and if the team valued Boutte as a boundary WR as much as you do they wouldn’t have traded a first or paid a fortune for Brown and Doubs to replace him. He’s a 500-700 yard receiver to date, nice player… but hardly convincing he’s “among their 6 best.”

We have no clue how much better Williams, Dorner and DeGennerro could be with added snaps and targets… potentially much better. We’ll have a better understanding after preseason is over. If these guys aren’t fools gold, the team will have to trade Boutte.

For the keep Booty at all costs crowd, please enlightened me on how he'll be used in this offense with 4 other receivers that can play the X.
If its just insurance and he rarely sees the field is that worth the roster spot? You love him as a player but would rather him sit on the roster in a break glass scenario than go to a team where he can have a significant role in his contract year?

So ditch Hollins and weaken our running game? Jettison Pop and loose his slot man-beating ability? Keep AJB and/or Doubs on the sideline so Booty can get his contested catch opportunities?

I do, and have always understood your take.
However if you think he's not one of our 6 best then we see things very differently.
The truther part is wrong.
Perhaps some posters don't understand WRs have different skillsets and roles, but unlikely from the majority of people posting on a football forum 12 months a year.
Again, injuries happen.

I think it's pretty simple and really comes down to this:

Could we get by without him - Yes.
Do we need to get by without him - No.

So then it's all about compensation.

I prefer to keep him unless the pick is at least a 3rd.
I don't expect to get offers better than a 5th.

Thus I prefer to keep him.

I believe it has been discussed thoroughly that Brown, Doubs and Boutte can all play X, Y and Z
Hollins in a pinch could slide in line.
Pop and Williams are fairly 1 dimensional

Who said keep him at all costs?
I prefer him over a 5th, which is what I expect the best offer to be.
If it's a 3rd or better, that's a different conversation, but I don't expect that offer.

I am not a keep Boutte at all costs guy.
But the return needs to be commensurate to a player that is 24 years old and already with 3 NFL seasons under his belt. In the proper scheme and QB situation, he could be ready to pop in a Doubs-ish way. He could be a top 2 or 3 WR on 75% of the leagues teams.
He is playing for a contract. He is hungry.
Boutte for a player rather than a pick is fine for me.

lets also look into 2027.
Brown will be a year older, with out much in guaranteed money on his deal. Will he be holding out for a new top 5 or 8 deal?
Hollins will be a 33 yrs old free agent
Pop will be a smallish 1 dimensional free agent
Williams and Chism may or may not.

all need to be considered in a deal

in Elliot we trust, right?

Good post. I tend to agree. I tend to think the team would be better served keeping Boutte. He’s young and has proven to be able to make plays and produce. But, if the team is extremely confident in the rest of the WRs now and into the future, and if the right deal comes along, I could see the reasoning to trade him. But they better be damn confident in Williams, Chism, and at least one of the rookies if they do so.

This has always been my take.
Trade compensation needs to be enough to make the deal worth while, and I just don’t see it.
Realistically teams would probably offer a 5th at best. I would not make that deal.

Ok. So which receiver(s) are you cutting?

Keep 7 with 2 TE's and, if needed 2 QB's and three RB's (including Gilliam)

The rest at those positions are JAGS.
the issue with some of that could be that Pop, Boutte, Brown, Doubs do not play ST
Williams is a fairly good return man on kick offs. Chism not so much on kick offs

Gotta disagree with your take on Pop and Williams being "one dimensional". Pop can run all the routes. He just does it from the slot. We have no idea what Williams can do. He's showing in Pre-season that he's not just a "GO ROUTE" guy.

Houston wasn’t willing to flip a 3rd so we flipped the bird..
For what its worth ive read the reason the texans won't kick in a third is because boutte isn't what they're looking for, they want a much bigger wr. Higgins is 6'4 214, boutte is 5'11 197.

Makes sense, if true. Zay Jones is 6’2, but Shepard is 5’10..Wonder if they’d be interested in someone like Quentin Johnston from LAC..

People sure have changed their mind about Douglass. When he ran backward and lost a 1st down people wanted to hang him.
In the last 14 games of last season he averaged 14.2 snaps a game on offense, not playing more than 22 in any game, and people have him now one of the starting 3 lined up to play 50 snaps a week.

Keep Boutte, potentially lose the receiver that would have replaced Boutte when you send him to the practice squad… then get nothing back in return for Boutte when he leaves after this season…. or get a similar or worse draft pick in 2028 instead of the sure thing you could have gotten in trade for 2027.

I get you prefer to keep him, that doesn’t make it a smart football business decision.
