Supposedly the 2027 QB class looks good so losing for the Phins might pay off and benefit the Pats too picking high in round 6.

I think what Triumph was trying to say was that the Phins are tanking in order to get the 1st overall pick in the 2027 class, and spending a 6th on a player who is probably bad but they can play anyway under the guise of “developing” him on the way to piling up losses helps them get there. They only risk injuring their current QB, who they hope to replace anyway.

I mean, I was down on Polk long before the Patriots drafted him. And as a PSU fan, taking Wallace was an absolute shock. What an unbelievaby bad draft, and that you would lay that on Belichick is absolutely preposterous.

he was a 4 year starter at a big 10 school
he allowed 1 sack in his 2023 season
physically, his ceiling was a starting OT in the league

His college coaches didn't even think that.

They are on record as believing he was a bad fit at OT. AT PENN STATE.

They wanted to move him to guard because they didn't think he was a tackle. But when their starter got hurt (Shelton), they shuffled him over there.

The 2024 draft will always be a successful draft just because they drafted Drake Maye. Doesn't excuse the really bad picks that came in the rounds after, but Maye looks to be a potential top 5 QB, maybe top 3. When you get that in a draft, the draft is a success no matter how bad the draft is.

2024 was always going to be a weird draft. Most of the scouting was done under Belichick, Wolf hasn't installed his system and staff yet, and they selecting for Jerod Mayo who had no clue what he was looking for in terms of talent.

The first draft after a regime change frequently is a mix bag to a disaster no matter the team just because the new staff is left with the scouting and much of the staff of the previous regime. So even when the scouting is good, it really doesn't jibe with what the new staff is doing. For example, Belichick looked for different traits in players than Wolf or even Vrabel does. Their grading systems were completely different.

It was a little different with Wolf because he was here, but he was running the scouting the way Belichick wanted it and not with his system. Wolf wasn't able to have the tools he wanted or the grading system he wanted. I think we saw positive results of the new scouting system and staff last year and hopefully we will see it again this year with the 2026 free agency and draft.

The 2024 draft was a disaster past Maye. But it is time to move on. This team has a lot of good and young talent that they were able to amass in a very short period of time. We can cautiously assume that 2024 was an outlier and we will see better results moving forward. Too soon to tell with this rookie class, but last year's class was excellent.

I posted on here BEFORE we picked them about how bad those players were.

I know nothing.

AND I would've done better than Wolf because I sure as heck wouldn't have drafted Polk and Wallace.

It was his, although the board was developed with BB's standards in mind, and BB lost his job in part because he thought that a lot of the WRs and OTs on the board from 2020 on were "overvalued."

But people are seriously making this out to be rocket science.

Wolf had 105 days between the time Belichick was fired and the selection of Polk and Wallace (2 guys I wrote up in January as being sure busts).

If you can't figure out that Polk is a dud in 105 days, nothing is going to help you.

That's a long time.

Plus, Wolf was part of the internal management team who knew all about the internal mayhem and mutiny in which everyone in Foxboro knew Belichick was gone by the middle of the season.

Yeah it's always fun to see people still get so upset about missed draft picks going as far back as the mid 2010s, but somehow, had we nailed every single pick over that timespan, Vrabel would still be coaching the Drake Maye led Patriots, somehow.
