I wouldn't do it. The irony is that you trade him to a team with an injury without consideration that an injury could happen to any player at any time on your team.

It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Yeah, I’d rather keep him unless it’s for a pick higher than expected (which is unlikely) or for a position of need (Edge, LB, TE etc..).I wouldn't do it. I’d jump at a 4th, but unfortunately I don’t see it happening. Is a 4th good enough?
Yes it's not that much of a stretch to think Bill both consulted with a collaboration and he had final say. It's not like they took a vote in the draft room and winner prevailed.
Bill still had full control even if he consulted with a collaboration. Howe even reported that the "collaboration" fell apart in 2022.
Why Bill Belichick abandoned hope of landing NFL job, pursuit of wins record
Belichick realized he was going to be a long shot in the next NFL hiring cycle. "He burned a lot of bridges over his career."www.nytimes.com
Which makes sense. Highly doubtful any collaboration group who had any meaningful say whatsoever would have allowed Bill to hire Matt Patricia as his offensive coordinator. That ought to tell you right there that there is no doubt at all Bill had full control.
He never announced the change in Belichick's total control because it never changed. Let me post the exerpt from the article you posted.
“Belichick liked Jones, but he also liked quarterback Davis Mills,” Howe wrote. “Belichick also was dead set on taking a quarterback at that spot. But Jones was the Patriots’ highest-rated player, and they desperately needed a quarterback after going 7-9 with Cam Newton in their first season without Tom Brady. Belichick appeared content to wait for Mills … but relinquished to the staff’s strong push for Jones, according to league sources.”
So basically the article says Belichick could have overruled his staff and waited for Mills. He chose not to. He wasn't overruled. It was his decision to defer to his staff. That is no different than him making the choice himself in terms of responsibility for the pick. Jones was as much on him as it was his staff.
And even Howe says that Belichick like Mac Jones. He just didn't want to take a QB that high.
Oh god not this argument again.
As the post said, Mills.I wonder whom Bill would've taken instead of Corky...?
This hasn't been a discussion. It's been the same old rehashed bs for the last five pages. And not a word of it is close to being about a Boutte trade.am I forcing you to post on this thread?
join the discussion or move along
Hear, hear.I ask the mods to change the name of this thread to reflect what folks are discussing.
When someone wants again to discuss Boutte or WR's, there can be another thread.
A trade up for Micah Parsons was the right pick. IMO. Still surprised someone with Bill‘s defensive pedigree didn’t agree with that thinking.I wonder whom Bill would've taken instead of Corky...?
Mills was a project. He was benched later that season. I think we would have to stomach another season of Cam throwing footballs into the ground. As the post said, Mills.
Lots of folks thought that Belichick might trade down to the bottom of the 1st or into the 2nd to overdraft Mills. Mills was drafted in the 3rd and is an OK backup QB.
Given that the QB's are approximately equal, I don't think the compensation for moving diwn would have made all that much difference. We would have been in the playoffs that year and with Josh gone, out of the playoff with a mismanaged QB the next.
I think he was just trying to show Kraft he was willing to collaborate. What would have been interesting is if someone in that room said no.Perhaps not a vote; but remember the scene in the draft room when Bill was about to call in the Corky pick, he looks to no one in particular and says, We all good with this...?
Boutte + 7th for a 4th sounds doable I think.I’d jump at a 4th, but unfortunately I don’t see it happening.
I would tend to agree, but what's the rush?Boutte + 7th for a 4th sounds doable I think.
Not Trading him seems doable to me.Boutte + 7th for a 4th sounds doable I think.
I get that too.Not Trading him seems doable to me.
So Kraft said personnel changed in 2021… but you don’t think it happened. Sounds legit. Why did Kraft announce the change? Because the drafting had sucked for years. Brady was publicly dissatisfied with the talent around him his last year with the Patriots. Something had to change.
That said, nothing really changed other than Belichick agreed to be more collaborative. He retained control over personnel and final say. He just agreed to Kraft to listen more to others and not just make decisions on his own.
Now tell me why Kraft said that Belichick retained complete control in personnel decision his entire tenure as a Patriot in this clip:
