Good teams are never built with free agency.
Two things.
1) I am concerned about Maye’s mental status going forward. What he did in the playoffs has ruined other QB’s, mentally, for the rest of their career.
2) He didn’t go from the most accurate to badly missing guys. He was never as accurate as you thought he was in the first place. He threw 2 (TWO) touchdowns all year against teams with a winning record. Which means he was beating up on bad secondaries. He played a college level schedule so of course his numbers will look good. Honestly, It’s such a ridiculously bad stat (only 2 TD’s against winning teams) I had to look twice when I saw the tweet.
I think McDermott figured him out in that second Bills matchup and then teams started copying that formula. In fact, a player from another defense actually mentioned copying Buffalo’s formula for Maye. After the Bills game, Maye had 9 TD, 5 INT, and 9 fumbles (not counting the Jets game, where even Mitch Trubisky feasted against).
