I read the first and last papers from start to finish, looking for discussion relevant to the assertion
@shmessy made saying that vaccines do not protect against getting the flu. I found nothing specifically addressing that point. I did however see statements saying vaccines prevented influenza, for example “A vaccination is the most common method to prevent diseases associated with influenza viruses.” That seems useful.
I started but did not finish the second of those articles. It’s a survey of other published articles. The very first paragraph states “
The most effective way to prevent influenza infection and its complications is through vaccination” which seemed sufficient to answer my question.
I didn’t find much in the third article, probably because it’s simplified for the intended audience. I did wonder whether it had been revised or updated to reflect the anti-vaccine bias of the current Secretary of HHS, and also whether those views will shape research agendas and distort our knowledge of how vaccines work. I fear the quality of information about vaccines may deteriorate rapidly, so I’m glad to have the sources you supplied.
