Of horrible trades, this was up there ( if I’m misremembering and he wasFA, still horrible)
Thuney left as a Free Agent. Pats wanted to retain him, but he didn't want to stay. Chose the Chiefs.

Would have loved to have had him back. but Chiefs sent him to Chi-town..

I heard Taylor Kyles opining yesterday that he would rather have the Pats not go to the SB, rather than go and get demolished, likely by the Rams.

I thought he made some good points, and was inclined to agree with him. It could be the proverbial turd on the punch bowl end to a great season.

Now…

I’m not so sure.

I know historically the losing team in the SB tends to have a drop off because they got SO close, and finishing second is just the first loser.

Would that be the same with the Pats?

They will have a tougher schedule next year win or lose.

I still think the Maye/Vrabel combo is going to attract FAs to the Pats.

The Pats still have cap space and a well-run draft/FA team.

The Pats were heavy underdogs to the Rams in the first dynasty yet were able to pull it out, and as Ricky Proehl correctly predicted before the game, “you are witnessing the birth of a new dynasty.”

So what does everyone here think about that?
Whatever you do do not contradict Kyles. He'll block you.
And he is WRONG here, again.

Ian's kind of guy then

**** that. I always want to go to the SB. If we’re fairly healthy, we won’t get “demolished.” The Rams are very good, but they aren’t great at anything in particular besides maybe WR & play calling (McVay). We can definitely beat them if we’re able to contain Puka & DA…and get pressure on Stafford. We’d surely be able to hold our own.

Yup.

The goal is to win the SB. You can't win the SB without getting to the SB.

Anything can happen in a game. ANYTHING. Key player(s) suddenly injured & out disrupting entire game plan. Wild stuff like helmet catches. Questionable, game changing calls, etc. Opposing QB having a below par day, pick 6, intentional grounding. Gotta be there to catch lightning in a bottle.
Even losing, squad gains Big Game experience. Superior coaching, which I believe we have prevents next year letdown.

Ian loves censorship and hates Belichick.
One person's opinion is not facts in evidence.

A) This site is his site so it would not be censorship, it would be rules of allowed behavior, etc., because it is his world that we live in.
B) As a real Pats fan, I believe @Ian respects BB's football knowledge, work ethic and success he had with the Team he loves. (BB's personal life means nothing to me though I wish him well like I would anyone. Posters that want to be mean spirited gossip mongers because their lives are empty or their thoughts are sub moronic have nothing to do with anything material. It's small-minded ****e talk.)

You may feel differently but that is your right. @Ian does try to deal with people evenly because he is a business person and he would like to be seen as trustworthy and more importantly he seems to be kind-hearted and a good person. That is often perception, but that is mine.

Closing any thread critical of Vrabel and letting the morons run around hating Bill proved it to me. Actions speak louder than words.

I've already discussed the "censorship" part of it. I'm not censoring anybody. It's the fact I put in place the ability for people to censor their own discussions from people who they don't get along with. The mods and I also interact here, so having to constantly referee disagreements can be challenging, and the tools are in place to give people the freedom to interact with whoever they want and for people to control their own experience.

I get it, nobody likes being blocked. I've been there, and it's frustrating. But if that person apparently feels that strongly, it's probably for the best. And I'm not really a "business person." I'm just like anybody else on here. I come here in my free time, and the only difference is that I try to keep things going from a technical standpoint, along with working alongside the mods to make it somewhere that people like spending their time.

As for Bill, I'm not going down that road again. I've already made it clear how much I admired and appreciated the guy, his recent personal decisions aside. Nobody complained or said anything about him in real time when the team was winning championships. Nobody said anything when he was making decisions in-game, where we laughed at other coaches like John Harbaugh, who whined about it after the fact. All of that started after Brady left, and they didn't have a viable QB. Like every other team, they struggled because you can't win if the guy under center can't play. I rooted for Mac because his failure was a setback for the team. Fortunately, they now have Maye and a chance to be competitive again.

But they don't win that Baltimore game without the coaching decisions that helped them come back from that deficit (exploiting the eligible receiver rule). Obviously, you need someone like Brady who can come up big in key moments during the postseason and finish the job, which he did that day and countless other times. We see every January/February how important it is to have a QB who can do that. Brady never flinched, and that's what made him so incredible. The same can be said when it comes to coaching, given that there are coaches every postseason who lose games for their respective teams.

Most of the narrative with Belichick was driven by talk radio after the fact, and I understand people feel a certain way, which is fine. For those who want to debate it, they can do so in the threads/forums where that exists. We're not doing it in the current threads in the main forum. Vrabel is the guy now, and we'll see how that plays out. If they lose a game in January where a decision might have been costly, we'll talk about it then. We're not going to ponder it right now when the team is 10-2.

That being said, I feel like the majority of the rest has been covered, and we enjoyed 20 amazing years. For now, when it comes to any "motive" I might have, I'd simply rather not keep pondering the chicken/egg theory or Belichick's current run at UNC on the main forum and would prefer to focus on the current season and team, the same way we did with Brady.

"It is what it is." - We're on to the Giants.

I liked Moore coming out of college.
Potential unfulfilled based on bad situations or just not very good?

I lived thru 85 (no chance really) and 96 (what shoulda / coulda been).

You dont give up a ticket to "The Dance."

I know we got destroyed in 85, but it was the only thing I could hang my hat on as a kid. If we didn’t have 85, it would have been a lost decade. I will take losing more than irrelevance.

I remember the annoying "one hit wonder" talk about the Patriots in 2002... but I still wouldn't trade that 2001 SB win for anything.

You don't like the 01 team.

You've called the defense overrated and completely written off the coaching staff.

I liked him too, but it's been 5 years.

Worth a PS signing, but not getting my hopes up.
Ya, I wasn’t suggesting signing him, just wondered in general if he can be productive somewhere. Kinda hard to judge based on the dumpster fire offenses he played in with NYJ and Cleveland.
