He needs to build up steam before he runs with power. We need the Blount type who even when stopped on short yardage still fall forward for an extra yard or two.Power backs are completely worthless if they're fumbling on the goal line or very short yardage to go. The Pats have a Rham problem and have since they extended him.
Well he had 1 lost fumble in his last 191 touches before yesterday so it’s not exactly a turnover every time he touches the football. It's disappointing Stevenson can't overcome his fumbling problem.
He's got to cradle the ball at his chest with the ends of the ball firmly in both hands when he's trying to break through the line of scrimmage and only put it in one arm if he's beaking away or needs to stiff arm. He might not be as dynamic doing it, but at least it won't be a turnover every time he touches the ball.
I know he feels like ****. Its the worst feeling in the world when you fumble. I did once in high school. Not that I got a lot of touches, but I held tight on to the ball with both arms like my life depended on it after losing the ball one time.
The current administration did this contract. This thread should be called "Rhamondre Stevenson."
He's been a fumbler dating back to college (look at touches vs fumbles - not total number.)
Someone mentioned to make him the third down back. Not a bad idea. He can catch a pass, and pick up a blitz.
Another contract we're stuck with from the previous administration.
I'll be pissed if he's active this week. There has to be consequences.$17M a year to single-handedly lose games. Stevenson has to be one of the worst contracts in all pro sports.
He had at least 1 bad fumble in practice. I was at the in-stadium practice and he just basically dropped the ball. The current administration did this contract.
Coaches need to coach players through their issues, not vanish the most effective RB we have out of an emotional response.
He went 191 touches with 1 list fumble before yesterday.
Clearly he has a bad habit than can be corrected by focus and concentration.
I’m mad he fumbled let’s punish him is not the correct approach.
He also has a habit of fumbling and recovering it himself, so I think there are more than are showing up on the stats. He had at least 1 bad fumble in practice. I was at the in-stadium practice and he just basically dropped the ball.
He has a persistent problem.

He went 191 touches with 1 lost fumble. That proves focus and coaching can solve the problem. We've had the discussion before and disagree.
I said he fumbled a lot in college and you were correct that the actual number sounded low, but when the number of carries were considered it was high.
He did fine as a rookie and his third year, but over a career he is what he is which is someone who can not be trusted with the ball. Statistically in his 5th year he fumbles two times over the league average, and I want better than league average. In my book ball security is #1 with a RB, and I think we agree he is no Derrick Henry or Jonathan Taylor. Without the fumbles he's still not elite.
I agree they have to figure out how to use him, but he can not be trusted running the ball in the 4th quarter or at the goal line really ever in my book.

is 16 fumbles in 728 career carries a lot

Yes — 16 fumbles on 728 carries is considered a lot.
Here’s the math and context:
So while 728 carries shows durability, the fumble frequency (16) would definitely be flagged as high turnover risk.
- Rate: 16 ÷ 728 ≈ 1 fumble every 45 carries.
- NFL benchmark: Running backs usually average around 1 fumble every 100–150 carries. A really good ball-security back (e.g., Curtis Martin, Tiki Barber after he fixed his grip, or current backs like Nick Chubb) might go 200+ carries per fumble.
- Comparison: A fumble every ~45 carries is more than 2× worse than average, and it would likely concern coaches because ball security is one of the most valued traits in an RB.
I agree they are a much better team than the board give them credit for and might be the team you don't want to face in the playoffs, but in the end Stevenson's mistakes will make it less likely they take a next step.
And turnovers are contagious. I don't want them around Maye.
Stevenson being active next week could start showing up in ticket sales.I'll be pissed if he's active this week. There has to be consequences.
How we ever got to the point where group think is players supposed to be flawless and as soon as you discover a flaw dump them is interesting.
Do you dispute focus and coaching corrected the problem when he lost 1 fumble in 191 touches? The statistics say otherwise, and it's his 5th year. There's been plenty of time to work this out.
I've been on the other threads defending cut players and saying this team is a playoff team, so I don't quite understand if you're talking to me. And I discussed this flaw during training camp and before.
Statistics also say you can not win with a RB who fumbles.
I agree because of contract we have to take this approach somewhat, but the team needs to coach, so Stevenson puts in less of a position to hurt them.
Or do you ignore the career numbers that are trending worse as he ages?
Maybe Andy Johnson could give him a few tips. But seriously watching a slow mo replay of one of his carries i noticed he was carrying the ball high on his chest which doesn't look normal to meWell he had 1 lost fumble in his last 191 touches before yesterday so it’s not exactly a turnover every time he touches the football.
Perhaps you can show up at practice and teach him how to not fumble.

Coaches need to coach away players issues. Thats their job. Giving up isn’t the answer.
No doubt he needs to be coached through the problem.Maybe Andy Johnson could give him a few tips. But seriously watching a slow mo replay of one of his carries i noticed he was carrying the ball high on his chest which doesn't look normal to me
Spot on: Rham Will never be trusted he has the fumble stigma.I'm not disputing that coaching corrected the problem. But there are players all the time who get in a zone and have career years. That was like a career year for not fumbling. The coaching might have inspired that, but it's not a guarantee it can be reproduced. It should have been learned for a career.
I'm not saying to give up. I'm saying add this to the number of positions we need to fill to really have a Super Bowl contender, and give the ball in key moments to someone else. It's not like he's elite.
If this were a young kid, I'd give this a pass. Like the kicker gets a pass. But we shouldn't be back to working this out, especially after last season.
You must agree championships are won with ball security.
There are players available every year that might be more average runners, but almost never fumble. They work the fundamentals out in high school.
I prefer that culture around Maye.
