Patriots Player Departure Polk traded to Saints

For those who enjoy that feeling of getting kicked in the nuts…

Ugh x 1000.

Terry Glenn, Branch, Givens, Mitchell, Edelman, boutte(?), douglas (?).... I know I'm forgetting someone. Troy brown of course! And slater but he was an emergency emergency back up. So generously 9 guys out of 32 guys drafted over 32 years of me really following the NFL. Since Bledsoe's rookie year.

Sometimes I wish the pats scouts would just follow around the steelers and just draft everyone the like.

Interestingly, the Bears draft is shaping up to be worse than the Patriots draft that year
hard to imagine somebody did worse but so far they’re looking worse, considering where they were picking

???
a youngster?
Didn't trade down with a pick that SF used to pick Rice?

More what we did with the trade down rather than the other team.

As not a youngster it was one of the worst picks ever, but not as bad as Kenneth Simms or Football Phil Olsen.

My recollection of that draft was that a lot of people were disappointed that we didn't pick McConkey, but not horribly disappointed. The Polk pick was regarded well when it was made because he was a WR who was universally recognized as a 2nd round pick in talent.

Nothing worked out for the offense last season. The OL coach quit mid-season. The OL was in constant turmoil due to injuries and was in disarray. No talent at WR and a rookie QB as well as a inexperienced group of coaches.

Maye was pretty much praised for his rookie year and making something out of nothing. Yet after one mediocre game the "bust" rats come out in force with their 20-20 hindsight self-promotion, dislocating their shoulder trying to pat themselves on the back.

Listen - there is no question that over the past 3 years, the Pats draft record has been HORRIBLE. Over half of all picks fail to begin with and every team have good and bad years picking given those general odds. The overall lack of depth across our roster will limit our playoff chances this year and next assuming that our next few years of draft picks are as good as last year's picks look.

Bottom line- It's ONE game folks. New staff. new offense. new system and a training camp system that now doesn't prepare teams for the season and force them to play their way into "game shape". An new coaching staffs with new offensive and defensive systems are PARTICUARLY disadvantaged by this system.

Meanwhile it was a good trade for both sides. The Pats got rid of someone that had no future here. It will cost them dead cap this year when they can more than afford it, and gets rid of some in future years when it will help a bit. For NO, they get a 2nd round talent for almost nothing down the road. For Polk he gets a fresh start in 26.

BTW- I care less about missing out on WR picks simply because there are just so many of them coming into the league each year. I saw a kid I never heard of today playing for Tennessee who had 2 spectacular TD pass catches in 3 quarters. 6'5 210 with speed beating people deep and winning all the 50-50 balls, and there are probably a dozen more just like him out there playing today. You miss out on a Polk and hit on Williams and Chism. And it takes until his 3rd year for Boutte to make a strong impression.

Worst trade down EVER!

I'm not a skilled draft prospect kind of fan but my problem with that trade wasnt in the value. I had no idea about any of the players at the time.

My issue was waiting all day for round 2 just for the Patriots to trade back and STILL draft a WR after all the ones that went off the board in round one and the chargers using theirs on WR.

We got something like the 10th WR off the board. It made no damn sense.

The only sense it made is that they liked a bunch of receivers equally, and didn't know what to do, so they decided to be good with the one left, while adding another pick.

Literally just use Dane Brugler’s Beast to rank the WR board.

That’s all they need to do

Huh? He can’t put himself on IR by leaking it? Are you saying and team wanted to cut him but they were forced to put him on IR instead because he told the media they were going to? Seriously?
He forced their hand. Vrabel was clearly pissed and had the body language that he wanted to release him. By Polk telling the media this and having it go public, the Pats aren't going to want to repeat what happened last season - things were said and then the opposite occurred.

I think it’s more he was going on IR but Vrabs didn’t want leaks.
He was clearly mad, at Polk Polks agent or whoever leaked it.
