Patriots Player Departure Polk traded to Saints

He wasn't in charge of the 2025 draft.

I saw the comparison to Office Space earlier...it's not a terrible analogy about how it is right now.
We even have a Bob. Just need one more Bob.

With Henderson, we don’t need to carry both Rham and Gibson. I’d be calling Washington right now to gauge interest in either since they lost Ekeler.
What if Henderson gets dInged up?

That leaves Gibson and who ever else NE picks up as 3rd RB.

Draft blunders like this plus most of Bill’s drafts in recent years is how teams end up at the top of the draft year after year.

Very early and however you might feel about Campbell 2025 looks like much more of a promising draft class than any in recent memory.

What's pats updated cap space now..
It depends on how much contract the Saints absorbed. Polks 2025 salary and 2026 salary were fully guaranteed.

Maybe additional NE cap space is the silver lining in this mess because a 2nd and 7th for a 6th is a joke.

Let's be clear.

Sure, Polk was a poor pick. Most media had him at the bottom of the 2nd, some in the 3rd. Also this poor pick was injued. Finally, he played for a terrible set of coaches. That was then.
===============
Lots of folks wanted Vrabel to cut Polk before Training Camp and give up on receiving a pick and give up on the THREE years of guaranteed salary owed to Polk.

Vrabel and staff stood their ground, even when Polk was injured again. They would try, again, and again to get some cap relief and perhaps even a pick.
======
NOW
Vrabel got a team to pick up 16 games of Polk's 2025 salary, his 2026 salary and his 2027 salary. In addition, we gained a 6th at the cost of a 2028 7th.

That was incredibly good deal for the patriots. Congrats to Vrabel and staff!

I haven't read the entire thread, so maybe I'm repeating an opinion that's already been excoriated thoroughly, but I would have kept Strange and outright cut Polk. I still think Cole is a solid backup at multiple IOL positions even if not a starter, while I don't believe Polk will ever amount to anything at all. A 2027 6th is so far away it's essentially worthless.

This may seem far fetched, but is it possible that both Scott Pioli and Floyd Reese (RIP) were woefully underrated?

Seems **** went sideways after both men were gone.

Caserio wasn’t amazing, Lombardi was awful, Groh/Wolf worse.

This year’s draft we’ll need to see in two years.

Meanwhile Howie Roseman and the Baltimore guy are killing everyone.
This is not a defense of Wolf, but Pioli was much criticized here before he left. Chad Jackson, Lawrence Maroney, Brandon Merriwether, this is just off the top of my head.

For those who enjoy that feeling of getting kicked in the nuts…

Wolf has had 2 drafts, one sucked, but got them their franchise quarterback, the other appears to be very good. The problem with this roster was Belichick’s drafts, and those will take a little longer to clear out.
“Maybe” franchise quarterback … let it play out

Glad they got rid of him. I think he leaked going to IR so he wouldn't get cut. Have to get rid of these guys.
Huh? He can’t put himself on IR by leaking it? Are you saying and team wanted to cut him but they were forced to put him on IR instead because he told the media they were going to? Seriously?
