Yup.

Some posters are clueless and losing their minds when it comes to Maye and his development. Now throw in a new HC. New OC. New offensive system. Layer on that average WRs. Average o-line and rookies starting on the left side. Maye is still very young.

To not give him some rope is freaking moronic.
He has the rope, 16 games worth.
But at the end of this season there can not be any more excuses if he is not progressing.
Yes 2 years is enough in this day and age

That may be so, but there were other rader recievers that were running free pretty much all game long
It’s a trickle down effect, they would’ve all been better.

Gotta look at the supporting cast, coaching, and the system too.

16 games is nowhere near enough. Look at Lamar Jackson. Hes finally figuring out how to be a pocket QB. Josh Allen needed 3 years. Sam Darold needed 4. Geno Smith is another. Baker Mayfield..on and on.

I don’t like this offense for Maye, he’s not a precision pocket QB. But I’m just a Madden expert what do I know.

I will now review the 2024 draft class outside of Drake Maye:

Wallace: Did not play but on the roster

Get the speeds on the Field at the same time: T Henderson and Kyle Williams that will make a your young QB life a little easier.

Rookie report:
Campbell: Played very well, lucky to not get Crosby regularly but overall, a good game.
Woodson: Probably best of all the rookies. Very good game. Now they just need to get Peppers back? Or start Pettus or Dugger next to him?
Henderson: Good start, ran hard, got what was there, not much opportunity in space but solid debut. Should be the starter.
Williams: Incomplete, 7 plays, 5 of them passes, caught a ball but seemed to bobble it as it got to his chest. But he caught it. Play before that that he was open for a TD but Maye had a free rusher and took the first read completion to the TE. He needs to play over Hollins who is terrible.
Wilson-Mixed bag, probably was the worst lineman for the Pats but not Layden Robinson rookie bad. Hopefully he improves at guard, which you think he will as he gets experience but had a few rough plays and gave up 6 pressures. Beter against run, but a little leery he's going to be a negative on pass plays overall, hoping for improvement. I am pretty sure he's the future center and not the future guard.
Farmer: 12 snaps, 6 passes, 6 runs. He caused a hurry on his first play and walked his guard back on another pass play. Did get pushed back on a run play, though he did slip, and ball carrier went right thru his vacated hole. Very next play he knocked the center back and Jeanty to had to cut back against the play design where Spillane was there for stop on a 3-yard gain. Showed impressive power. Good overall in limited snaps and might be more in a rotation as the year goes on. Surprised by his power.
Bryant-Blocks on field goal unit, 4 plays, did his job, makes himself very wide so hard to get thru or around him but it's a field goal, nothing to learn.
Ashby-Perfect 10 snaps. His punt snaps are LASERS. Gets down the field pretty fast on punts. Think they have the next decades long snapper. So that's 1 position checked off!
Borregales-Missed the 1 kick, sucks but rookie kicker right? Kick offs were excellent, flirting with touchbacks but didn't. Showed some guts by coming back after missing first field goal and hitting the rest.
Ponder-Only 4 snaps on defense with nothing notable but is a core special teamer
Chism-Played a better game than Pop

As expected, Wilson at guard might not last, he's got to improve quickly. Bradbury played well, especially in pass pro so he's not taking that spot this year. We will see if he holds onto guard.

Pretty good start for the rookie class overall.

2024 class after Drake Maye.

Nah, when he proves otherwise then you can come quote me and ask for my thoughts.

Already said it last season that people were overhyping him so I will continue to compare him to Mac til I see something better. Mac Jones first season was better than what I’ve seen from Maye so far, hopefully he improves unlike Mac.
That assumes I care about your thoughts. It’s a game. A vehicle to enjoy that game. Enjoy being the key word. Why follow something that only brings you misery? That’s where you are now with your position on Maye already set in your head just waiting around for him to fail and everyone else finds out what you already know. A good chunk of this fan base has such a skewed reality. Good luck there smartie!

Three coaching staffs in a row try to use Stevenson has a short yardage back and three times he proves he can't do it.
Three coaches in a row have had spotty offensive lines as well.?

Why follow something that only brings you misery?

I know, but look at Felger and Mazz's ratings.

There's an old Scandinavian saying, "Eat , billions of flies can't be wrong!".

Turns out "the fellowship of the miserable" is a genuine thing.

Meh. He needs reliable pass catchers he is comfortable with and a running game. Too many forces and bad throws to HH and Pop.

Here is a solid breakdown of Maye's game. He's very biased against Josh and Vrabel but much of the analysis is good here.

A few plays that I disagree with him on:

+The miss to Henry when Henry stops running in the red zone: um, Henry stopped running, if he didn't he had a good chance to catch it.
-The other bad looking miss to Henry was a throw to the outside shoulder away from the coming safety and Henry looked inside for some reason, he says bad throw but think that one is placed the only place he could go.
-Fumble by Maye where Campbell was beat he blames Campbell but was probably on Rahm, not Campbell. Rham is supposed to chip the end. Knowing this Campbell sets up to protect the inside rush since Rham would chip and prevent the outside rush, Rham barely touched him, almost realizes he messes up and start to chase after the defensive end and then decides, well I might as well get out on my route instead. I added a clip to this play below and see what Rham does, or DOES NOT do.

The conclusion Maye did not play a bad game was the same I had after watching tape. He wasn't perfect and had a few bad throws. Unfortunately, other QB's can get away with that and do every week. Until we get Chism out there and Henderson more involved the lack of playmakers will require Maye to play at a very high level to score points.

Watching this review, i ask myself why is Maye often taking two step forward while throwing ?

Three coaches in a row have had spotty offensive lines as well.?
Yes that is also a large component. The line got mismanaged by Bill his last few years. Then the disastrous results last year with Okafor, Lowe, and the two rookies. Obviously the jury is still out on this year's line but we certainly couldn't run the ball yesterday.

After reflecting on the game because they couldn't run the ball it put most of the pressure on maye. If they could have run the ball it would have kept oakland honest, and not allowed them to tee off on maye. they only ran the ball 18 times vs 46 passing attempts

I hope I’m proven wrong but I always felt Alt or Bowers were the right choice there. High picks are for generational talents and can’t miss QBs, unless you want to be a franchise perpetually in turmoil.

It’s not just about speed. The average CB is faster than probably all but the 90th percentile WRs. Route running is everything.

They had 1 carry by a RB in the second half, 1!!!!!! And they started the second half with the lead. And some folks think coaching wasn’t a factor in the loss. Yes the running game wasn’t good in the first half, but to completely abandon it in the second half is not only dumb, it’s completely unacceptable.

After taking a night to digest the game yesterday one thing I think we can all believe in is that this team should get better as the season goes on rather than worse. We have the coaches up and down the roster to help everyone improve. I’m not saying “playoff quality” better, or that the results on game day will be linear, but the team will be better.

The other teams want to win too. This was never going to happen in year 1.
