Vrabel tells it like it is about the Pats drafting

It would be great to have Micah but if they had decided to pay him 47 million a year, soon they have to start thinking about paying Drake (if he proves he’s the guy) and Gonzalez, tough to pay three guys that type of money as Jerry realized. As of now with nothing being done aren’t we over the cap next season?
We’re only over the cap next season because it assumes we’re not carrying anything forward from 2025. If we carry $35m in cap from 2025 to next year, we will be under the projected 2026 cap by $25m. We’ll see what the final numbers look like, accounting for the actual 2025 extra cap space and 2025 incentives that are hit / not hit.

From there, reasonable to assume we’d release Onwenu to save $17.5m on the 2026 cap, unless he restructures/extends.

I'd have done Micah this year, Gonzo 2 years from now, and Maye 3 years from now. That would stagger things and we would have been able to spread it out so it wouldn't kill us.

We are over next year but what we didn't spend this year will cover it and then we have another 90+ the following year that we can borrow from. I don't see us at all in a bad place cap wise. We should be spending more.

Building depth isn’t only about drafting or spending money on players. In fact I think it’s more about having coaches who are good teachers.

I’m hopeful that they have much better teachers now than they’ve had for quite some time, in particular for the QB, WR, and OL groups.

For the OL, they do.

For the QB, unknown.

But for the WRs, they were given-over to Vrabel's JeteStank buddy, who has Never coached the position, Ever.

I'm hoping Barmore plays like a poor man's Chris Jones: that would help our Pass Rush mightily.

Who's gonna help our Run-Stopping? Isn't that what a Defensive Tackle is supposed to do?

He’s not lying. I’m ok with not getting Parsons if this is his thinking…but I hope Coach backs up those words.

Also tells me the league has noticed how terrible GM Bill and to a lesser extent Wolf were with the drafts in recent years, not just us fans.

We can't give up 2x 1st round picks for Parsons. Those will be two premium picks, possibly top 10 picks in the next 2 years.

Add on top of that his insane reported salary of 47m per year and that's a HARD PASS from me. The correct move this time was not to trade for Parsons.

Totally agree. As a comment, I get when I say this is a bad roster and I'd be happy with 6 wins. I should have said it your way, i.e., we're going to have premium draft picks for the next two years. Sounds better.

there is some top end talent on the roster.
Diggs, Barmore, Gonzo, Barringer
Maye, Campbell, Wilson, Henderson could be

Gotta admit how he called the past few years drafts trash was 100% class. Called em trash without saying the word trash. I’m liking him more each day.
Absolutely love Vrabel's coaching style he's just what a modern day coach is/should be..in the NFL. He is being realistic and not sugar coating anything. Trash is putting it lightly. He's by far the best coach in AFCE..

We are definitely not there yet, and I was against a Parsons trade for that reason.
But...you just never know in this league, turnarounds good and bad are so frequent, it's hard to know which teams are real contenders any given pre-season.
Washington's roster last season in comparison to ours least season wasn't talent rich.. they caught fire and rode the momentum to the post season. We need to assert ourselves and get this week 1 win to set the stage for the rest of the season.

I'm very sorry that people have given you **** and that I missed it. I'd like to join in.

I'm not completely convinced Diggs is going to survive the season with the Pats.
His contract is is geared towards the team getting out of it should that transpire.. I believe steph has and will help this team. Even if it's just for this season alone.

Agreed, we should round out the roster a little more before we do a parsons type splash. Its not a one year fix
Also, as I've seen it pointed out, if the Packers perform as they're expected to, those 1st Round Picks will be on or after the 25th Pick Area of the 1st Round. Basically, very high-end 2nd Round Picks (not that you can't still find solid talent there). The pressure is all on Green Bay (I moved to the Green Bay Area from Lynn in 2001 and live just about 6 miles away from Lambeau).

Green Bay's window is open, so it makes sense that they're making these kinds of moves. But the concern also should be if they make too big a splash and start mortgaging their future by tying up money and first round draft picks, that window may not stay open.

Green Bay has given up two first round picks and is paying a linebacker $47mm per year (ie QB money) who may have back issues. In return they have increased their odds of winning the Super Bowl from roughly 5% to 7%/8%. Bad use of draft captial and cap space.

I figured I was missing a piece of the puzzle, thanks for clarifying. I figured Onwenu and Dugger would be cuts next offseason unless Onwenu is great this season, maybe that wouldn’t even be enough.

If Onwenu has a great season I could see them extending him short term. There’s no need to go looking for a new offensive line every offseason, continuity on the line is a good thing.

Yup extend him and save some money on the cap.
