If they can't find a team willing to take him at his price tag then he may just get cut. The new regime could just deem Dugger a sunk cost and move on.
Is dugger so bad that he cannot find a spot in 53 as a backup. Or do we have backups who flash insane potential that we can cut dugger . I hope that's how the call should be made unless someone is willing to take dugger and it saves u say 5 million $ or something of that effect.

Right now it seems like a little of both.

Hawkins is playing well and is a FS.
Woodson also seems to be playing well and can back up both spots.

Dugger is clearly having a tough summer. Which brings up several questions:

First how much does he have left in the tank?
I'd like to think he's young enough that he can still get past this but if he did permanent damage to his ankle last year maybe not.

Can he expand his role to include some linebacker?
Vrabel seemed to basically say they are giving it a try.

Depending on the answers to the first two questions you may want to keep him since there isn't a lot of savings or is there someone who might trade for him?
At this point trade is probably our best option but his cost makes it prohibitive. Maybe if he makes the 53 and gets on the field a little a team with a need for a box safety will feel better taking on his salary and maybe they get a little desperate and ignore the red flags.

All that said and he probably just winds up cut and then hitches on elsewhere with a reasonable salary that allows that team to utilize him in a role that fits what he has left in the tank and is worth his salary. Probably plays a few more years at a decent level but never getting back to where he was a few seasons ago.

The team is open to having one-year players on the roster.

We could pay Dugger the guaranteed money plus essentially vet minimum. Alternatively, we could pick up a waiver cut for cheap. Dugger is worth vet minimum as a #4 safety for one year.

Imagine the cap shape they'd be in had they just sat back like a normal person and waited to see how it played out. Rham would've been on a short term cheap deal or playing elsewhere. Dugger and Owenu would've been off the books. Barmore would've been on a prove it deal. And before you say "who knew he'd have blood clots", I said last off-season he had no business getting paid early after only one stand out season. On the flip side, if Barmore bounces back, the contract becomes a bargain with so many DL getting overpaid. Immediately signing Bourne rehabbing an ACL tear, then balking over "$1M more" for Calvin Ridley.

Posters were so angry when Bill wouldn't pay anyone, but I hope this was a lesson as to why. Bill rarely struck out with letting guys walk and the reason he didn't pay was because the scheme made the player - not the other way around.

I think the cap will open back again for us in 2027 when landry, diggs, Henry , onwenu, dugger , rham , Davis are not on the books. Barmore is 50-50. Of course we might get some others to replace them . But cap should be significant in Maye's 4th year.

Milton williams has been silent in camp. Is that by design ?

I honestly hope we don't cut Dugger since we have seen in the right scheme and when healthy he can play. I just don't know if either of those things line up for him right now.

Thats kinda the reason to cut/trade him.

From 2021-2023 he was a very good player here. Seemingly it's not working out under the new regime.

He's a player in no man's land in this era of the NFL. He was very scheme dependent with Bill who gave him limited responsibilities to play downhill. Once McCourty left in 2023, he got exposed. He is not a headlining S that can lead the entire secondary. As Andrew Callahan said, once Dugger starts peddling backwards or chasing players is when he gets into trouble.

I think the bigger problem for him even before the injury is that everything he does Peppers does better. Then this injury and/or new scheme isn't helping him find another role. And then to your point Bill was good at putting guys in the right places and his system could use that type of redundancy a little more with his big nickel type stuff and not just one pure SS like peppers now.

I wonder how much rotation that repaired ankle has right now.
Don't know just how bad it was before/after surgery.
He never should have been put in Center Field anyway, that was never his game.
Hopefully we find another McCourty soon.

Tbh majority felt we were overpaying dugger and again that's because as fans we have historically not seen us overpay much .

It started with sanu, AB and then agholor, Jonny, JuJu . Dugger performed well for us on rookie contract . So maybe this overpay evens out . Karma !!

The first 4 were on Belichick, Duggars is on Wolf.

Or go home and get fat eating Doritos and playing video games. His salary is fully guaranteed.

Fire Eliot Wolf.
18 million was guaranteed on his contract. Currently Dugger and Jennings are being offered in trade packages..is why I feel the Hendrickson move is still on the table.

Both players have had production here. Dugger not long ago was a top 10 safety, Jennings is still an elite edge setter. No less than a 5th for either or..
No chance we get a 5th. We get a 7th or maybe a player swap for a guy another team was going to cut.

We got that for wannabe starter Milton or was it a 6th? So you saying we don't get anything for veterans that have had some productive seasons? Dugger was not to long ago regarded as a top 15 safety, Jennings is amongst the top edge setters in the game? I say a 5th.. you and @Steve102 have to consider that...
