It is simply foolish to pay that much for an easily replaced run-of-the-mill back. I have yet to see a sound, empirical argument for keeping him around when he is so easily replaced with someone certainly cheaper, likely a player of equal talent but with some upside. Makes no sense at all.

Because you have plenty of money, and they're out of his contract at the end of the year, so why not keep the run of the mill back who knows the offense already, rather than bring in some rando.

The fact that one has money does not justify wasting it. You can save money, moreover, perhaps by trading him while agreeing to take on some of the salary, More importantly, he is a player who has in my view amply demonstarted that he has no upside, and whose present level of play is not average: it is subppar. There is moreover every chance that this "rando" might actually have some upside. A lot of players will be released in coming weeks,: I reject the idea that we do not have a decent chance of doing better than this failed player by rummaging through those castoffs.

What do you think Stevenson would net in a trade?

Even if you take on money, I think a 6th round pick would be a huge return. So, for a 6th round pick, you're trading a veteran RB who is run-of-the-mill, but also knows the system, and is 'fine'. In your scenario, you're paying dead cap money, you're paying *additional* money, to bring in some rando off his couch for....reasons?

You're paying him anyway, you may as well keep the player. Also, considering Stevenson was a 4th round pick, I'd say calling him a 'failed player' is pretty hyperbolic. He's been your de-facto starter here for the better part of 4 years.

Why should Wolf get some credit for the 2025 draft class?
He’s executive vice president of player personnel, so all the scouts and player eval staff work for him, right?

Sort of. Vrabel added Streicher and Cowden. Cowden is the scout and talent evaluator that was added in 2025 and made a difference.

He should get some credit for the 2025 draft class. Looks like a few winners there.
Jury is still out on Drake Maye. If the Pats have a losing season, it will mean one of two things: injuries or the fear of this board becomes a reality that Maye could be a bust. If it's the latter, there's no way Wolf is back.

Looking like a trade/cut candidate. Some of those deals handed out last year are regrettable. On the flip side it seems to mean good things for Woodson.

Why does it feel like EVERY single contract extension given by the Mayo administration was a bad decision? I can't think of a single good one right now.

Since super cheap BB left, the contracts signed by Wolf are all over-priced. Wolf's draft is a disaster and Wolf's player contracts are all overpays.

Interesting you'd call it the Mayo administration, when it was Wolf/Kraft making those decisions.

I do not think you'd getmuch for him in a trade, and I think the likelihood, net, is that it will cost you a little to get rid of him. But that's the way of the world thes days: you have to pay somebody to take your junk. He's done. You move on, hopefully to something better, which shouldn't be too hard.

It was a Streicher/Cowden/Highsmith draft. Wolf was there to make phone calls and do media.

McVay and others have said Stretch wants to be, and will for sure be a GM one day.

I would hate to see that happen elsewhere because he was blocked by Wolf.

Yeah no shrewd moves like letting Jakobi walk for Juju or signing Riley Reiff and Calvin Anderson to shore up the tackle spot.

Dugger won't be cut. He would cost us only game bonuses and so salary to keep him.

If we want to dump him, the team should allow his agent to find a trade partner. If the alternate is cutting hi, trading place in the 7th round is fine.

If they can't find a team willing to take him at his price tag then he may just get cut. The new regime could just deem Dugger a sunk cost and move on.
