Both players have had production here. Dugger not long ago was a top 10 safety, Jennings is still an elite edge setter. No less than a 5th for either or..

This is the time of the year when many teams are dangling vets with big contracts as trade bait, hoping someone bites.

The best move for those teams is to see if those players clear waivers on cut-down day, then sign them for below-market deals, unless they absolutely love those players.

Both Dugger (before injury) and Jennings are good scheme fits for the BB defense, but not many teams use that scheme these days.

Agreed there Bill. They are both players from past regime with an outdated defensive scheme. Dugger his game is playing down hill. He thrived when a real FS was here in McCourty... Jennings was and is still a top edge setting OL/DE. If anything he is still useful in a rotation role here. Run player's are needed. The injury has comprised Dugger and he likely will be playing elsewhere.
 
We got that for wannabe starter Milton or was it a 6th? So you saying we don't get anything for veterans that have had some productive seasons? Dugger was not to long ago regarded as a top 15 safety, Jennings is amongst the top edge setters in the game? I say a 5th.. you and @Steve102 have to consider that...
Milton plays a premium position, is dirt cheap, and is (was) thought to have huge upside based on physical skills. Kyle Dugger is 29 years old, coming off an injury he doesn't seem to have properly healed from, and currently carries a $15 million cap hit. Jennings will be 28 in couple weeks and has a pretty specific role that doesn't seem to be needed by a lot of teams (this one included) and carries a $5 million cap hit.
 
My own opinion without proof or sources?

He ****ed his ankle last year, and surgery didn't fix it.
I don’t think it healed right and it seems to affect his lateral movement.
 
reading between the lines on practice reports, Peppers clearly is the guy right now. they seemingly are managing his snaps over the summer. he should be fresh and ready day 1 of regular season

I continue to read good things about Hawkins as well, including g his ST play

We also read Woodson saw some snaps with the 1's, and he may be the future.

Injuries always occur, but Pettus, Epps also on hand. Dugger is a very high priced insurance policy, unless he is not 100% healthy, but in time he will be, and could be back to his pre injury self. If that is the case, IR-DTR?
 
I think he is cut, too much money for another team to take on. when cut will likely get a 1 year 5 nill deal from the new team,,edit did not know his salary was assured, makes the team.

Agree. Not sure which team will sign him for that albatross of an contract. If we take 10 million $ hit maybe someone will do 6th and 7th round swaps for dugger and give us cost savings of 5 million or so.

Take what you want from this. However the Joe Milton experience probably is going to be over soon. Jennings contract is kibbles and bits compared to what edge players make. Agreed with your over post though.
 
If the Pats can't trade him, there's no reason to cut him as his salary is guaranteed. Just keep him in case of injury.

How did I get dragged into this? Did I comment on this some where and forget?
 
I think Jennings and Dugger can still be useful to someone just not sure enough so for someone to trade for.

Jennings maybe but why would someone else deal with Duggers contract even if we do get stuck with most of it. Just wait for them to be cut.

I bet someone could use an in the box safety and a run oriented LBer. Which sucks for us because we'll probably watch them walk for nothing and then see them contribute at some point for someone else. Even still if they don't have a role here it is what it is.

People seemed to momentarily forget why Milton was drafted in the sixth round and kept losing his starting job at the two schools he played for.

Jennings is an NFL player who will probably find a role somewhere but I don't think there will be a bidding war for his services. I like Jennings and that we were finally able to get something out of him when they figured out what he does well. It just doesn't seem like Vrabel has a role for him here.
