Hollins As A Special Teamer

yes, we have

i do disagree. 2018 was the last year for the WR's to achieve that feat... and if you are counting tight ends, it was last year.

Diggs, Boutte, Douglas, Williams, Chism. Polk and Baker can go to the practice squad
I apologize if I misled. I thought that Dorsett had 32 receptions (not over 32) and was the #4 WR on the list. Did I misread the chart?
=========
The issue is NOT about TE's. We should always have a TE among the top 5 receivers with over 32 receptions.

Not me
I apologize if I misled you.
I don't think that any of Chism, Baker or Polk would take any playing time away from the top 3 WR's (or even 4, or 5 if Hollins makes the 53), even with an injury or perhaps even two.
I would expect any of them (if they make the 53) to be inactive in every game.
So why would how many passes our 4th WR caught have anything to do with this discussion?

“Developmental” needs to be defined to answer. To me developmental means a young guy with promise who you aren’t ready to rely on but wouldn’t be unwilling to put in a game. Any of those 3 on the field as an injury replacement aren’t going to communion their shoes, nor be a significant difference from having Hollins instead. Remember, Hollins reception per snaps played is worse than NKeal Harry.

1) I’m saying you don’t keep a guy in the promise of a potential future and our him in the rotation unless and until you need to.
2) Hollins is not a + special teams guy. I do t know where you get that from.

I have no problem with a WR5 being active say to return kicks while being there in case of injury, and getting playing time if the game goes blowout.
If you are only worried about special teams you should be pimping Chidm not Hollins. Chism needs to be Steve tasker to make the team not Wes Welker.
OK, let's be very clear.

How many WR's do you think that we should carry? And who should they be?

If I understand your previous post, we should keep Diggs, Douglas, Boutte, and WIlliams. I also understand you to say that after that it doesn't really matter.
=========
BTW, are you suggesting that Chism should be on the 53 and active because he is our 3rd best punt returner (if that).
=========

Who? Polk? Baker? Guys who showed nothing or couldn't get on the field to show nothing? Come on, man, he's here as a 4th WR who plays ST and blocks in the run game and a vet on a team that needs good vets.
would rather waste the roster spot on the y2 guys than a one and done type player... I would rather wager on their potential, which was wasted last year by coaching incompetence... Would rather keep them here and see if they are salvageable with McDaniels calling the shots vs AVP... As for ST, the special teams play argument does nothing to sway me. If he played 80% of the ST's, them you'd have an argument... He doesn't... its more like 30% on average,so basically what? the punt team?

and if he's the 4th/5th wr, his snaps will be limited... you want to use Hollins as a blocker for the running game? does that tip your hand, telling everyone its a run, based on personnel packages?

They combined for 12 catches and 91 yards in a pop warner offense last year. I'm good.

Hollins is Josh’s binkie… unfortunately we’re stuck with him.

Given the guaranteed first year money, Hollins i probably also Vrabel's binkie.
==================
In any case, I think that, so far, he has done everything that Josh and Vrabel expected of him. Hollins has done nothing to take himself off of their binkie list.

If Baker continues his upward trajectory it will be outright foolish to hold onto an old thoroughly average WR just because Josh likes the guy. Baker is a big physical guy, I’m sure he can play special teams also.

Both of the non-producers are 6'1" and 202-203 lbs. That's not smurf-like for sure, but I dunno about big.

It depends upon how the rest of the roster plays out, what injuries we have, are we going into the season with 5 or 0 players who won’t be active due to injury, etc etc. Who are your punt and kick returners?

It also depends upon how the failures from last year show up during camp and preseason.
Polk was almost unanimously considered a 2nd round talent. He **** the bed. But if the talent is there, don’t give up on him? Do you try to figure out the problem?
There are dozens of interrelated factors in setting a roster not just how many do you want at this position.

Ultimately we keep anywhere from 4 to 6 and 1-2 on the practice squad.
Right now we know the 4 and they are going to get the playing time.
Does it really make a difference which one is sitting in the bench. At least not a significant one this year, so you would want to look to the future. Polk or Hollins as WR5 will not make a difference this year either way. You get about the same thing, basically nothing.

Why do you think Chism is the 3rd best punt returner? What do you base that on?
Are you planning to put out made of glass nickel corner back there? That’s pretty risky. Chism needs to earn the punt return, kick return, gunner, kick coverage, etc roles in camp and preseason. If he does he makes the team he is certainly a better option than Hollins for that
If he doesn’t someone from a different position takes that role.

Plays big… potentially. Baker’s future is ahead of him, good or bad. Hollins is who he is and his career is almost over.

It "seems" that you expect (absent injuries) to have a roster than includes Polk and/or Baker.

Way back in the day, they had Bryan Cox on the 2001 roster. He was done, but a tone setter. They say his hit in the Colts regular season game changed the demeanor of the team from the hunted to the hunters. I am shocked that everyone doesn't see that in this guy. I know he's a nothing guy as far as WRs go, but so is every other fekk on the roster not named Diggs or Pop. Dude is a football player, not some outside the numbers I'm-not-going-across-the-middle-type of under producing WR with a ton of athleticism and swagger and zero production. All set on these Tyquan Thorton types. All freakin' set. N'keal freakin' Harry. Keep 'em all. Gimme football players.

lot of time between now and August 26, cut down day... we'll see how it unfolds between now and then...

The Pats could line up Diggs, Pop and Hollins on day 1.

Hollins already knows what McDaniel's wants because of Vegas. Depending on camp # 4 guy is up for grabs.

Why bring Hollins here and pay him all that money?

Just to cut him.

Who do you want?
whoever Josh thinks that he possibly can develop enough to compete for the #2 WR spot.. #1 and slot receivers are set.

I'll tell you why there is push back on Hollins - I don't want to give up on promising players, rookie Chism and the second year Baker/Polk... so far Baker and Polk have been more than competitive in camp... I am in the middle of a complete 180 on Polk based on what we have seen in the last week... Baker? he's only caught more TD passes than anyone else in the league during camp... not just here, but across the league... I am paying attention to that. Everyone should be.

What Hollins brings to the table isn't enough to surpass that promise of potential.

It remains to be seen if Chism can make it to the end... he shows flashes of talent, but will most likely end up on the practice squad... if he doesn't get picked up elsewhere...

And say what you want about Bryan Cox being an older player but he wasn't done at that point... he would have been one of the leading tacklers on the 2001 team if he didn't miss a chunk of games due to a broken leg...

Baker looks good in practice. Wow, reminds me of Corky Mac Jones dropping dimes and spittin rhymes pre 2023 season. Dog was ballin out there. realtalk yall.

Hollins has done it in live action 7 months ago.
