If they are good enough to make the 53-man roster, then they should be on it. If they are not, they should be traded for a 7th or cut. For me, it really is that simple. The competition will be tough and extended.It's the other guys like Chism, Boutte for example that are hungry and will be chomping at the bit to make the team. So as we've seen in many if instances over the years guys we presume are locks sometimes may not end up being so for different reasons. Injury, or simply a numbers game. Happens all over the NFL.

Are you implying that we should use IR for players that really aren't injured so that they can be protected for a few weeks?
I wouldn't do that. We need Practice Squad players to play in practice and in case of injures to someone on the 53.
We shouldn't be putting them on IR so that we have weaker players on IR filling the PS role. Or perhaps, we are simply trying to prevent the player from finding another team that wants him more than we do instead of cutting him in four weeks. If a player loses, let him go., signing him to the PS if he can't find a job elsewhere.
