Alex Barth's post-OTAs "way too early" roster projection

It's the other guys like Chism, Boutte for example that are hungry and will be chomping at the bit to make the team. So as we've seen in many if instances over the years guys we presume are locks sometimes may not end up being so for different reasons. Injury, or simply a numbers game. Happens all over the NFL.
If they are good enough to make the 53-man roster, then they should be on it. If they are not, they should be traded for a 7th or cut. For me, it really is that simple. The competition will be tough and extended.

Yes, if Hollins is on the PUP lost, that will give someone else an opportunity.

Are you implying that we should use IR for players that really aren't injured so that they can be protected for a few weeks?

I wouldn't do that. We need Practice Squad players to play in practice and in case of injures to someone on the 53.

We shouldn't be putting them on IR so that we have weaker players on IR filling the PS role. Or perhaps, we are simply trying to prevent the player from finding another team that wants him more than we do instead of cutting him in four weeks. If a player loses, let him go., signing him to the PS if he can't find a job elsewhere.

Good info and my analysis on this is that in a weird way this somewhat makes it even more likely he'll end up at least in our Practice Squad.

He would have to be paid more or put on another teams 53 otherwise it would make sense for him to stay on our Practice Squad and continue the work he put in during our TC. If he plays well enough that another team would claim him then he likely would make out 53 and if he doesn't who at that point is giving him more money than we already have?
Its doubtful he'd make it to the PS, since they had to beat out 6 other teams to sign him and he's done nothing to make any of them cool on him since.

Of he continues his path forward as he has all off season i see him on the 53.. to have him make the 53 would mean that he has shown the abilities to consistent get open and catch the ball. From what I have seen on him he's got hands like glue.

Some posters only look at receptions to judge a WR, they don't consider the full picture of everything a WR has to do.

I’d like to see a stat on how many receptions go for a first down. Kevin Faulk was an example of a guy who didn’t get much league wide notice, but he was a first down machine for the Patriots, same for Troy Brown, Welker, and Edelman.

Another truth. Polk was a very good blocker in college as well.

Zuma, tell me the last time a team said " hey.. let's sign this guy he's a all pro blocker?

When your a WR and your best skill is blocking YAY \o/
Not to mention played with an all pro QB, with a fading wr Cooper and still only amassed 383 yards... unbelievable how some people have him anointed here....

The offense doesn't revolve around him. It revolves around Drake, the OL, Josh McDaniels.

I can't remember who it was, about 6-8 years ago we had a WR that was very good at blocking. That's what he was best at, but we also had Gronk, Edelman and White at the time. I have a hard time believing we have that luxury in 2025.

I'm fine with a WR that his primary role is blocking, but not when he's 32 yo with a recent major injury and with so many unknowns everywhere on offense.

Perfectly put Zuma.

Yes, Polk has a lot of potential, but he is a headcase. He also had an injured shoulder that needed surgery, so maybe his issues was due to an injury and not being a headcase? We will see. I hope he is great and can replace Hollins in a year or two.

We'll see, but I wouldn't consider Polk a "head case"; Baker on the other hand,

I think that we would all be fine if both Polk and Baker are beaten out for roster spots on the 53.
