As you look at the current roster there is a lot of competition at several spots. I'm curious if there are any potential trades we could make. I'm not suggesting we would get any sort of significant return, but wondering if there is some potential for a few late round draft picks or player swaps (rare I know).

Mike Onwenu - had an up and down season last year. Not living up to the contract so far, probably hard to find a trade partner. Would the drop off to Leydon Robinson or Sidy Sow be that dramatic? Though presumably not much of a team leader, his veteran experience and G/T versatility are worth keeping.

Kendrick Bourne - Probably the best trade chip we have. Given that we are still in rebuilding mode does it make sense to let Bourne go to make room for Chisolm or Boutte?

Anfernee Jennings - reports are he's kind of a square peg in this defense

Jalani Tavai - would seem to be on the bubble in this defense as well

Vedarian Lowe - is a left tackle only from what I've heard. Makes it hard to keep him as a back up. Worth a 6th or 7th round pick to a team that suffers an injury to a starting LT?

Cole Strange - might make more sense with a team that runs a lot of outside zone

Sidy Sow/ Leydon Robinson - These guys are redundant. Both 4th round picks I believe. Probably flat out cut if either of them can't compete for LG.

Kashon Boutte - has shown some promise. Pretty sure he lands on a roster if cut.

Jalin Polk - his stock is in the tank. Would anyone trade a late round pick for a flier on potential upside? I would hate to see us keep him on the roster just because of his draft status.

Jabril Peppers - we are pretty loaded at safety with Woodson in the mix. I definitely think there is some trade value there.

Kyle Dugger - Can he recapture his 2023 form? Bloated contract is an issue.

Antonio Gibson - Hard to see many touches for him with Henderson in the mix.

I don't think we have enough proven talent to trade anyone. Especially Olinemen.

I don't care if they are in a contract year or a crowded position we need competition and the best we can get to win each position even if that means one might get cut at end of TC or walk as a free agent next off-season.

Simply put I'd rather the competition than the compensation.

Some of these players, especially Polk, may net an underperforming player for underperforming player. Bethel Johnson and Jacoby Brissett’s first stint come to mind in terms of that kind of trade.

No one is trading for Peppers, Onwenu, Bourne, Polk or any of our OL men.

Here are who i think we can trade.

Jennings - 6th rounder but could be a conditional 5th. He actually is a pretty decent player and his contract is reasonable the next 2 seasons.

Boutte - 7th up to a conditional 5th. A lot is being bet on 1 year. But he is super cheap and has upside. No team is willing to throw more than a 7th at him unless he produces.

Gibson - 6th. He's arguably a little expensive for what he gives you, but he can go pretty much anywhere and be your #2 back and your #1 for a few weeks if someone goes down and fill that role well.

Gibson is dirt cheap and also was our best RB last year. Until the rookie surpasses him in actual gametime, it's hard to let Gibson go. Especially when you won't get much back.

Anyways, the vast majority of these guys are at best 6th or 7th round conditional pick trades. If that.

Sad days

Owenu and Dugger are rentals at this point. May as well keep them for this season and then let them go in 2026 when their contracts have outs.

I don't see who would want Bourne - even the 49ers who've had his replacement for years. Miami could be the only other destination for him, but that's reach as well.

OL is still a question mark, so it wouldn't make sense to trade Strange. As bad as Lowe and Robinson are, they need bodies.

Give Polk one more year.

Keep Boutte.

It would be idiotic cutting/trading Gibson. Rham is not reliable and Henderson hasn't proven anything.

Not trading Peppers as the S's aren't loaded. Dugger has been badly exposed since his snaps increased, McCourty isn't holding down the FS spot and Phillips isn't playing SS. Woodson hasn't proven anything.

I can see Jennings being traded and Tavai having an injury settlement.

The Pats have a ton of cap space and won't get much in return for these players, so they really don't need to rush into anything right now.

I think the Pats have ten picks next year, so unless we’re cutting that player anyway, why dump him for a late pick?

The only trade value we have on this roster would be for players I have no interest in us trading. Anyone else would net a 6th at best,

Some of those guys may very well get beat out for roster spots. Obviously I'd trade before cutting.

Dugger or Peppers are the only guys from that list I'd trade with the reason being the actual trade. I think both are good starting SSs that could get something that's at least worthwhile to a small degree and the redundancy makes me ok moving one even if not great for the roster.

At the other spots, I don't think we're good enough to justify trading away a roster worthy player. And none of them would get any real value anyway.

Peppers is certainly a trade candidate, although I don't think he'll be traded. His legal issues are behind him, and he has turned into a very good DB over the last 2 years. His tradable contact is quite reasonable .

I don't think that we should make a priority of getting rid of "good starting" players.

The challenge is to use the talent of these starters. We don't have another starter at the moment. If and when Woodson is ready to start, we will be running a lot of three safety sets and have a solid set of 3 safeties. This is strength, not a reason to want to get ridofone or both of the starters.

The BOTTOM LINE is that safety could be a strength. Let's keep it that way. Let Epps, Hawkins and Mapu fight it out for the 4th safety roster spot.

Lowe is hard to keep at LT because he is only a LT?

1) We need a backup LT. Lowe is good enough to be a backup, certainly until someone proves to be better as a LT.

2) Lowe is OK as a backup RT, although Wallace will likely have that role.

3) It would it be better if Lowe was also a solid backup LG. Certainly, that is a plus for a patriot LT!

You can’t trade Onwenu. You just rebuilt the OL but lack depth. You dint trade away a starter to save money when you have cap space under those circumstances. Ditto for Strange.

Bourne, Boutte and Polk are fighting for a job, they have no trade value.

Jennings is an excellent run defender who has value.

Lowe Sow and Robinson have no trade value. They would be at best bubble roster guys on any team, as they are in this one.

Peppers and Dugger are starting safeties. Woodson isn’t a rookie starter.

Gibson is a candidate but would get peanuts in return so you keep him
as depth.

If you haven't already done so play around with the Patriot's Picker and try and come up with a 53 man roster. There are going to be some tough decisions to make (relatively speaking). We are in a rebuild and I think there is room to consider whether we should be running with the best 53 of today at the risk of losing potential rookie upside.

Or as a replacement for Stevenson when he coughs the ball up 7 times again.

Well done, interesting list.

Don't agree with all of them, but it's a great topic for this part of the offseason.
