Draft day 2: reset

They have to go BPA. They need to collect as many good players as possible to strengthen our roster.

I think they can do both at the same time right now, as I would bet that most of the guys we are looking at as best available are on the same tier on the Patriots draft board. Obviously all of them aren’t, but the players we are looking at in the first half of the second round are probably pretty close together in their player scores. Surprisingly the first round went pretty much as expected in terms of who went in it. Will Johnson was the biggest surprise, but I thought he was going to drop pretty significantly because of his refusal to run before the draft. Teams already had speed concerns with him, and the unwillingness to prove that wrong certainly ended up working against him,

Like all of those except Wyatt Millum. No more OGs
I do not feel good about our LG situation. Milum is actually a LT/RT, but is best suited to play on the inside at OG (especially LG). So he has position versatility. Although I'll take anyone that can lock down that LG spot right now and in the long term. We wouldn't have to take him (or someone like him) until Day 3.

Worthy of note. The Bears have 2 of the next 3 picks behind us.. They need OL, DL and RB. Going by value and what is on the board they will probably go DL and RB. Other teams know this. i think considering the strong need the Bears have for these spots, the value of players and the fact they get 2 chances to fill them there will be calls to the Pats with a team looking to trade up.

Not saying we shouldn't hold and pick. But it is worth mention that while we didn't get any calls for pick 4... it seems to me extremely likely they get calls this time. But who knows in the end?

I wonder whether Milroe goes before Sanders tonight.
That is a BRUTUAL take. The Brits are supposed to be diplomatic, and you HAMMERING Sanders. You might want to consider moving to the USA, I bet PatsFans could sponsor you on immigration.

How would you all feel about:

38 - TreVeyon Henderson, RB
69 - Jalen Royals, WR
77 - Femi Oladejo, Edge
106 - Seth McLaughlin, C
144 - Bilhal Kone, CB (Or just for kicks: Kyle McCord, QB. Or for even more kicks: a kicker.)

Over reaction. Strange IIRC was taken with the 29th pick of the draft and by all accounts had a solid rookie year with the ups and downs most rookies go through. Had he gone in the 3rd round rather than with a pick at the end of the first, his rookie year would have been deemed solid. The kid is NOT responsible for where he was picked.

IIRC Sow was rated the top rookie OG after his first season. A combination of injuries, position switching coaching, etc caused him to regress last year. But isn't the popular meme these days is to do it the "Philly way" and develop your OWN players. We all call for **** like that, and then immediately demand to throw away players the moment they are anything less that spectacular the moment they step on the field.

Take the case of Julian Edelman, a near HOF player who was an instant success 5 years in the making. That's how long it took before Edelman was holding down a regular starting receiver's job. Here's a guy who will get some HOF momentum and I wonder if he would have even stuck with the Pats if he wasn't a gifted punt returner and special teams player that justified his spot on the roster those yearly years.

Just because we have become a spoiled fan base that demands IMMEDIATE gratification all the time. We need to sometimes take a step back and realize that this is a PROCESS and it takes time to build a roster that can win the LONG attrition ridden season of an NFL march to February.

Before we add 3 more OLmen and 3 more WR's. Why don't we slow down and try to develop what we already have in house. I'd be OK with 2 OLmen and1 more WR. We got NEW coaches, and NEW schemes, all across the board. Lets exercise some patience.
Agree 100%

That's a very simplistic way of looking at it. Randy Moss and Terrell Owens are HOFers that never won a SB. You can play that game at any position. Of course you need playmakers to win. Just like you need a good OL. All of those teams you listed had good OLs as well as the playmakers you listed.

Now where, I will kind of side with you is that for some reason, many on this board are absolutely fixated on this idea that they need to get the OL and THEN get the playmakers. That's a silly line of thinking. They need to pick and sign players that are available and there shouldn't be this unhealthy obsession with forcing a certain order. To become a good team again they will need to add tons of talent on the line and at playmaking positions so take them both as they come.
I agree, that was my point. Outside of QB, no single position in football impacts the win loss columns.

To single out people that want to see an elite WR by stating they don't cause wins, is the same as pointing out the fact that LTs don't either.

The Browns went winless with a HOF LT and the Lions went winless with a HOF WR.

Teams can get away with having one of us as a starting WR. No team can get away with one of us as a starting OL.

Agreed. We don't need to go crazy on the defense.. but an edge guy certainly helps.. but our front 4 will create havoc it takes pressure off the edge rushers. Jayden Higgins at WR please!

Add an edge rusher to our defense and its a dominant unit imo. Gonzo and davis at corner with an actual pass rush?? Hafta make that happen!

Hopefully higgins is there, im banking on one of the browns picks being a qb and someone finally takes Johnson. That leaves 3 picks to go with hopefully burden being the first wr taken.

Athletic:

Of the players still available, these appeared in the first round of three of the five mocks (Dane Brugler, Lance Zierlein, Peter Schrager, Albert Breer and Daniel Jeremiah):

Will Johnson (CB)
Donovan Ezeiruaku (Edge)
Mike Green (Edge)
Shedeur Sanders (QB)
TreVeyon Henderson (RB)
Nick Emmanwori (S) appeared twice, while Mason Taylor (TE) and Trey Amos (CB) appeared once.
Talk about a talented guy who talked himself out the first round I'm Sanders..

I really like Henderson but there are players I prefer to Royals and Oladejo although I wouldn't object to either. I think it's fine as a haul but I'd hope to come out with better today. Just my personal view though.
