Draft day 2: reset

Status
Not open for further replies.
Probably day three but we met with him at the combine. I do think we draft a slot corner this weekend.

My bet would be one of this group:

Nick Emmanwori, S
Will Johnson, CB
Nic Scourton, EDGE
TreVeyon Henderson, RB
Jayden Higgens, WR
Jaylin Noel, WR

But after that is a pretty huge cloud of prospects including TEs and LBs we haven't discussed a lot. And WR is deep -- somebody like Jalen Royals in the 3rd would suit me just fine.

Royals is my binkie.

IIRC there were very few complaints about the Polk pick. Most people thought is was a solid if unspectacular "safe" pick. A good possession receiver, a guy who would win 50-50 balls and with, ironically, "great hands". That being said, at the time I was a big McConkey fan. I wanted either him or the DB the Eagles drafted in the same round.

I still hold out SOME hope for Polk. He looked like a different guy than his college days, or even what we saw in camp that year. But last season he deserved all the criticism he got. Was it an injury? Was it the coaching? Was it the scheme?

Guys can go 2 ways after a season like that. He can fold up and wither away to the guy at the barbershop who regales his pal about his days in the NFL, or he can come back with a fierce determination to prove every doubter wrong.

Bottom line that we should at LEAST give him a full TC to show us which guy he actually is

Everyone who is still on the team gets a reset after last year’s s-show.

You have a bunch of IOL on the roster already.

If they all suck, well you are badly screwed regardless.

But it is mindless to expend badly needed resources on a position you are fully stocked at.

If you just spent a #1 (Strange), #3 (Wallace), #4 (Robinson), #4 (Sow), #4 (Andrews), #5 (Mafi), #6 (Hines), and none of these guys worked out, you're just DEAD. Finished. Finito. And you signed some free agents as well. We're talking about 2 positions here and you have 8 guys.

Meanwhile you don't have LBs and FSs and edge rushers and WRs and a big DT.

Over reaction. Strange IIRC was taken with the 29th pick of the draft and by all accounts had a solid rookie year with the ups and downs most rookies go through. Had he gone in the 3rd round rather than with a pick at the end of the first, his rookie year would have been deemed solid. The kid is NOT responsible for where he was picked.

IIRC Sow was rated the top rookie OG after his first season. A combination of injuries, position switching coaching, etc caused him to regress last year. But isn't the popular meme these days is to do it the "Philly way" and develop your OWN players. We all call for **** like that, and then immediately demand to throw away players the moment they are anything less that spectacular the moment they step on the field.

Take the case of Julian Edelman, a near HOF player who was an instant success 5 years in the making. That's how long it took before Edelman was holding down a regular starting receiver's job. Here's a guy who will get some HOF momentum and I wonder if he would have even stuck with the Pats if he wasn't a gifted punt returner and special teams player that justified his spot on the roster those yearly years.

Just because we have become a spoiled fan base that demands IMMEDIATE gratification all the time. We need to sometimes take a step back and realize that this is a PROCESS and it takes time to build a roster that can win the LONG attrition ridden season of an NFL march to February.

Before we add 3 more OLmen and 3 more WR's. Why don't we slow down and try to develop what we already have in house. I'd be OK with 2 OLmen and1 more WR. We got NEW coaches, and NEW schemes, all across the board. Lets exercise some patience.

Emmanwori for me.

Not Ezeiruaku?

I think he will be really good but I would go Emanawari butchered his name or I would go Noel.

Double dip at reciever today or drafting one and trading for a vet.

If we left today with Eman, Noel, and Royals while trading 2 of our trash WRs for late picks the draft would be a A plus.

They have to go BPA. They need to collect as many good players as possible to strengthen our roster.

That's exactly the reason I don't want Tre Harris.

Yup! Please, no more big slow contested catch guys. When I see that someone makes a lot of contested catches, to me it means he cannot get open. N'Keal Harry for instance. No more idiotic Harry picks. For some reason a lot of draftnics love the big WRs. It will be interesting to see if Tet is a flop.

Luther Burden III (Comp is Sefon Diggs)=Yes! Jayden Higgins (A Faster Michael Pittman Jr. with an already solid Pro Route Tree)=Yes! Jaylin Noel (A much faster deep threat and 5 lbs lighter Julian Edelman)=Yes! Let's come out of this draft with two of those 3 guys (even if we have to trade some late round picks in next years draft, because I really also want TreVeyon Henderson, and one of the solid Edge guys, and a Wyatt Milum or similar to drop in at LG. Also, Mason Taylor or Fannin Jr. at TE would also be nice. Screw rounds 4 through 7 in next year's draft. Let's grab some high upside/can help immediately talent in this draft. Let the hate begin!

I'll jump out a first story window if the Pats draft another WR named Jaylin high in the 2nd

Athletic:

Of the players still available, these appeared in the first round of three of the five mocks (Dane Brugler, Lance Zierlein, Peter Schrager, Albert Breer and Daniel Jeremiah):

Will Johnson (CB)
Donovan Ezeiruaku (Edge)
Mike Green (Edge)
Shedeur Sanders (QB)
TreVeyon Henderson (RB)
Nick Emmanwori (S) appeared twice, while Mason Taylor (TE) and Trey Amos (CB) appeared once.

Spelled completely differently than Polk. And a completely different WR.

Like all of those except Wyatt Millum. No more OGs

Edge and wr, to me its our 2 biggest current needs and you are most likely going to have good values at both here. Pretty simple imo
Agreed. We don't need to go crazy on the defense.. but an edge guy certainly helps.. but our front 4 will create havoc it takes pressure off the edge rushers. Jayden Higgins at WR please!
