Draft day 2: reset

I will admit that I wasn't a big fan of Maye because of his limited playing time in college and never having taken a snap under Center. I have said this many times if AVP and TC McCartney did anything well it was correcting the flaws that Maye had coming out of college. I don't know if you have seen the chart that Ian Logue put together. It outlines how many different Offensive Line combinations the Patriots had last year. It was remarkable how Maye was able to succeed at all. I am optimistic for Maye in year 2.

Yep, the line was a disaster. I wanted them to leave Maye on the bench all season, but having played him, despite the concussions, worked out to their advantage as it encouraged Vrabel to take the job, and made them a more palatable option to come here in free agency. I think they have turned this team around this offseason, and I expect steady progress from here on out.

My thought is this, we got the tackle, so we can go bpa at 38 because we still need real talent on the team.

Emmanwori is a top 10 talent still on the board (and I would have defended it if they had taken him with 4). If he's there, it's a no brainer, because he can do so many things.

That’s my take as well. They needed 3 things that were must have, a potential franchise QB, a good head coach and staff, and a left tackle. All 3 have been addressed, and now they should go BPA from here on. They still have some obvious needs, WR, Edge, free safety, but they can address them while still going BPA.

I envisioned a deep drop in R1 and then taking him late teens, so I am on board.

Hey. Be nice to his High Holiness of the WR Cult. He cannot help himself. He has a slew of followers in his Cult of Vertical Route-ness. (I just made that last part up)

I am not a true believer, but I do enjoy pushing his buttons. Please do not dissuade him from tending to his flock. They need him.
Ive been posting this for many years. WR are shiny objects that mesmerize certain posters. I then post that the pats never had one of these top wide outs in any super bowl they have one. While having them is exciting they can be shut down. The the pats did this when they beat ‘The Greatest Show on Turff’ To win their first super bowl

You would have defended him being picked at 4 overall? Seriously? You just stripped yourself of all credibility. He is a no brainer at 38, but 4 is just silly.

Yes.
Also true - that was 25 years ago and the game has changed significantly.

I also think with the popularity of fantasy football, it's even more of a draw for some folks. Not sure if the High Priest of The Cult of Vertical Route-ness agrees or not.

So is will Campbell.

My Current Board

Trade up - No one - I was on the fence about trading up... but at this point when i considering everything (particularly on Mike Green). I figured let it play out.

#1 Mike Green - Edge Yes the allegations are troubling... but not even arrested or charged. For now i will give the benefit of a doubt. We want high character guys, but we need talent too. And we just don't have enough. I was perhaps a bit too willing to look past red flags in the heat of things after last night. Now i'm fine letting the chips fall. But if he is there. I think he has to be the guy.
#2 Will Johnson - CB/s - Maybe he needs to move to safety... IDC.. I saw his tape. If his injury is okay (which scouts this it is... they think he ducked the 40 yard dash) then I'm all for taking him. To me him at safety is probably better than Nick Emmanwori.
#3 Tre Harris - WR - Went back and forth on it a bit. 11th hour... Harris is my guy. Doesn't have the ceiling of Burden, but his floor seems enticingly high. I think he comes in year 1 and becomes a very good #2. Maybe more. He just has so much to love about his game and potential.
#4 Jayden Higgins - WR I like Higgins... Bur unlike the guys above... he is the guy who should be at 38. Not the guy who falls there. He has a lot of good things, but he lacks that extra thing to make him pop. He has height though, which i think is often over stated. Being 6'4 is great, but as long as you're not 5'9 i don't care much... pass the 6 or more threshold and i'm looking at other things. It should be noted while I'm not pounding the table for him, the fact I am putting him here means i believe there is seperatation between him and guys like Bond, Noel, Bech, whoever.
#5 Nick Emmanwori - S - I know some people absolutely pound the table for this guy. And i get why. But safety isn't as big a need as others. And i don't feel the need to take it over greater needs for a guy who fell 15 spots lower than he should have. If he was ranked higher from the start, that would be something. And i know some people ranked him in the top 10.. IDK if his tape shows that though... his meassurables are elite though. So i guess we can't pass on him.
(Anyone else and trade down)

Trade Down targets

Mild trade down 40-50 overall (no order)

Luther Burden - WR - I was super high on him till i heard character issue rumors. I knew he was raw and would need to learn the finer parts of being a WR. I was okay with that, cause his movement is electric. He has the 2nd highest ceiling in this draft and highest at WR. But with those things combined... now i need to trade down to justify it.
Donovan Ezeiruaku - DE - I liked him when he was a 3rd rounder by most people. Still do now. But not as much at 38... to me he is a trade down target.

Bigger trade down 51+

Henderson - RB - I am not against picking an RB in the 2nd as much as i am in the first, but this guy can't catch and can't carry the load. He is a change of pace back. Valueable
Fannin - TE - I've said before and will say again.. I have the feeling Fannin will be the best TE to come out of this draft... he will probably be higher on some board than we think. I am all for him here as I really want to get him. He plays more like a WR than TE, which is fine by me.
Jonah Savaiinaea - OT/OG - Listed as an OT by many, but clearly is going OG in the NFL and the only guard I like in round 2... The others may be round 2 prospects, but i want a guy who stands out in some way. The top guys are gone, i think this is the best of the next bunch.

I think i'm good with this board going into day 2 for round 2.... not going deeper cause who knows what will happen.
Tre Harris is slow as molasses- no thanks

That was an example, the pats have never had those type of wrs in any super bowl win in the last and have beaten teams who have in the last ten years

You are the only person on the planet other than the dude's mother.

I'm the only dude that had Emmanwori as a top 10 talent in the draft? I assure you I'm not.

Day two players I like that haven't really been discussed yet. Most of these are round three, possible round four guys.

Bradyn Swinson, EDGE, LSU - In terms of pressures on true pass sets, ranked 3rd in this class behind only Abdul Carter and Jack Sawyer. 60 total pressures last year, only 6 behind Abdul Carter. No seeming pre-draft interest though.

Elijah Roberts, DE, SMU - Also had 60 total pressures last season at 285lbs. He's not an edge rusher per se, he's more in the Keion White role. Again, no seeming interest and his role similarity to White probably rules him out but very productive and a strong run defender.

Josaiah Stewart, EDGE, Michigan - The highest pass rush grade of any edge defender in true pass sets. He fits the 'plays violent' mantra that Patriots defensive coaches have been pushing.

Ty Robinson, DT, Wisconsin - 3rd most pressures for a DT in this class. another who fits the "plays violent" description. Tested well but not elite. Round three is the top of his range but would rather him at the beginning of day 3.

Tory Horton, WR, Colorado State - If we miss out on Jayden Higgins and we're looking for a boundary receiver, potentially to be an X, this is my guy. Fast with potential 4.3 speed, excellent hands but had this last season curtailed by injury. would likely be higher on boards if not for that.

Miles Frazier, OG, LSU - Has experience playing both guard and tackle spots so an excellent backup lineman option who could compete for the LG spot this year or more likely, be a plug and play replacement for Onwenu next.

Logan Brown, OT, Kansas State - Played at RT at Kansas St. but has the build and athleticism to play LT too. If we miss out on Trapilo and Belton, I really like him as a developmental OT with swing tackle early upside. Long-term, I do think he can rise to be a starter but that's more of a projection. Again, more preferably a 4th rounder but I would consider him at 77.

There are plenty of other options, particularly at edge rusher (Landon Jackson, Kyle Kennard, Ashton Gillotte, Jack Sawyer) but those are my particular favourites as outside picks.

Bradbury wasn't brought in to sit on the bench. And he's already better than virtually every other lineman already there.
Guy struggles one year in pass pro with injuries around him, suddenly sidy sow is better than the guy who started 88 games at center.

What are we even doing?
Why did you post about Sidy Sow? The Vikings would not cut a 1st round draft pick on his second contract because he struggled for one year.

What are we even talking about??

I had him at 12, could see the argument for top 10.

Neither of us know if he is or isn't. They 100% do, however, one way or the other. If he's not an upgrade, to your point, then they likely won't draft him. If he is, then they will likely try to get him.

I'm sure he's an upgrade. The talent is there and so is the versatility. At 77 he'd be a fantastic addition

He ran a 4.54. Which is fine. Many top WRs in the league have the same or worse times. The important thing though is he runs the same speed on film in pads during live action as he does at the 40. Some guys run a faster 40 than on film. Golden imo is one of these guys. His 40 times rarely showed on the field.

Frankly I don't see how you think he's slow after seeing his film. Maybe watch it again? IDK. He isn't an burner, but his speed plenty good enough. His short area shake and bake is fantastic. Really good hands. Lots of power. He is a guy who finds a way to get you an extra yard or two on every completion. Either powering over the CB to fall forward and getting an angle on them with his S&B. He seems to have great savvy.

Give this a look
