If Carter falls to us at 4# (of which there is a good chance) do we trade down. I'm sure there would be lots of suitors for him. Is a DE, no matter how good, a priority for NE in the first round?

Trade for what?

You don't trade the opportunity to draft a game wrecking blue chip prospect
The only way it would make sense is if his visit raised major red flags of some sort (especially medically, in Carter's case).

How the **** is Carter falling to the Pats? Seriously people....

The Titans take Ward, Browns take Sanders, and Giants take Hunter. There is no guarantee that if two QBs go in the top three that Carter is drafted over Hunter by the third team that doesn't take the QB.

The surest way to stay mediocre is to pass on potentially elite talent in favor of more guys with a lot less talent

Our best scenario is one of Hunter or Carter is left and we just take them.

Hunter can be a franchise #1 WR who will learn from Diggs.

Carter is a franchise edge who will pressure opposing QBs and can learn from Landry.

What if the Patriots decided to select Jalon Walker the linebacker from Georgia at pick #4? Quite a few draft sites have the Pats taking this guy. I've watched his highlight videos and he looks so unimpressive to me. Constantly over running plays, not so agile and not overly quick. I would not be happy at all.

Game breaking ability right out the gates… if you pass on him you better be damn sure your pick winds up an all pro or you trade away and get a haul or “which team traded the #4 pick to Team X that wound up being Abdul Carter…” become a trivia question of ineptitude

Last year the package was good for #3, and they took Maye. Rightfully so. They needed extra picks.

This year, if the package is good, I take it, we still need extra picks and even though people say this is a weak draft, rounds 2 or 3 apparently have the normal level of opportunity from every other year.

There ARE some legit questions about Carter. Is he big enough to withstand the demands of the game. His lack of experience at the position, and his age (which can also be thought of as plus). But in my opinion he would be the IDEAL pick.

FIrst he plays a position of extreme need. We had a HORRIBLE edge rush last year, and though Landry is an improvement, he isn't the solution.

Second he plays a position where rookies can make an instant impact. Like RB and LB great physicality can show immediately and it takes less time for a player to reach his true potential unlike, say, QB, WR or the DL. Of course, he edge players improve over time too, but Carter would be a player where we would see an instant impact on what could end up being a pretty damned good defense.

I'd be fine with Graham, but with the additions on the DL plus a likely return of Baremore he would be strictly a best player available pick. I'd also be fine with Hunter, who is more likely to be there. He'd make the secondary positively scary with Gonsalez. Davis, and himself out there. The schemes he would allow the DC to create would be awesome. And forget about the offensive possibilities even if they are limited. Or the reverse and he becomes a fulltime WR doing limited work as a DB in certain schemes. He simply is the most dynamic player in the draft. The art and skill will be how to use him most effectively to have a long productive career.
