As the New England Patriots prepare for the 2020 season, their basketball counterparts in Boston begin their quest for another championship as the Celtics open up the playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night.
On Instagram Monday, Julian Edelman voiced his support for the Celtics with a photo of himself sporting a jersey stating “Playoff (Bubble) basketball is back! Don’t let these boys get hot!”.
The show of support didn’t stop there, according to NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin, head coach Bill Belichick spoke with the Celtics via a Zoom call on Sunday morning.
Celtics center Daniel Theis recapped Belichick’s message to the team.
“Be prepared and control whatever you can control. Don’t be surprised on the court when they run something, because you should know and be well prepared for it.”
The Celtics and Patriots have a recent history of support for one another, in 2019 Brad Stevens attended training camp and has become close friends with Josh McDaniels during his coaching tenure.
