Correct and that makes total sense. The Eliot Wolf system implies/projects performance past their rookie deal for mid/late round picks.

Just seems too unrealistic and pie in the sky for players that have a 0-20% chance of seeing their 2nd NFL contract.

I don’t think it’s so much telling the players how they grade out and fit into the big picture, I think it’s more for accountability for the front office and scouts in terms of their evaluations, recommendations, and how their decisions go. But it could also be about a change in emphasis in terms of scouting each position, and what the are prioritizing. Hopefully players who will eat glass to win get really high scores. You need as many Steve Smith Sr.’s as you can get on your team,

Wonder if they are planing on trading 4?

It will depend upon who is left, and the trade offers, if any ? If so they need to get at least a 2nd for it, anything less is meaningless,

If Carter and Hunter are gone:
Really warming to the following draft scenario

1) Trade back with Vegas and pick up their third and drafting Membou for LT

2) Trade the 38 and 77 to Minnesota and drafting Egbuka at 24

Second Rounder if they really want a QB.

No one's trading up in this draft especially not for Sanders maybe for Carter or Hunter.

You really think teams are dying to give up high draft picks for short armed LTs, light heavyweight DTs, and whatever else it is none of us can agree on?

None of us love our options at 4 and yet everyone just seems to think teams will be handing over picks to get to 4.

I could see a team moving up for Graham. Anyone who dismisses him because of measurables is an idiot, frankly.

There are three blue chip players in this draft. Carter, Hunter and Graham. At least one of them, likely Graham will be there at 4. Not necessarily a position of need, depending on Barmore's status but I would be sorely tempted. If we don't take him, there should be plenty of teams willing to move up for him.

Sanders doesn’t seem like any special, he lacks elite physical traits that you typically would see from a highly drafted QB. It would be to the Browns’ benefit to feign interest in taking Sanders at 2, to see if any team is desperate enough to trade them for that spot, and that’s only if they can be compelled enough to walk away from taking Carter or Hunter as well. At the end of the day Sanders isn’t that much better a prospect than Dart or Milroe for teams to pass up on the consensus top 2 overall prospects in this draft. Russell Wilson looms as a possibility for both these teams. There would have to be some salary cap voodoo needed I bet but the Browns could also choose to trade for Kirk Cousins after the draft if they don’t get Wilson.

It’s like you say, the options are all very questionable after Carter and Hunter, and every team can see that. If three QB needy teams pass on Sanders, that’s a bad sign. Fans should prepare for the possibility that taking the best player available means holding your nose and hoping for the best after missing out on the only blue chip guys available. That means either a LT prospect with a historically short wingspan (Campbell) or a RT prospect who is shorter than ideal height for LT (Membou) or a WR prospect with questionable speed and play strength (McMillan). Need to hope there are enough NFL teams that are true believers in Sanders to create enough urgency to draft or move up for him, or else this is what we’ll be faced with.

Teams get itchy and twitchy on Draft Day... they'll do what you least expect. Just say a little Birdie told me.

Hopefully to get a good look at Trapilo. Can't hurt to get some insight from O'Brien too.
Reports that I have heard that they know Trapilo very well. He's worked with Scar. Seems a slam dunk they'll get him.

Teams do get itchy and twitchy but if they can't control themselves they are moving into top 3 where they can get Carter, Hunter, or the top QB. No one's moving to 4 unless 2 QBs go top 3 and then we want to keep it. If you're considering trading to 4 for QB2 you wouldn't want someone else to leapfrog you so you can't wait.

I think trading down from 4 is very unlikely in this draft.

Penix Jr went Eight last year JJ McCarthy went Tenth and Bo Nix went 12th overall. I had Nix and Penix as Early Second Rounders. Las Vegas the Jets and New Orleans all need young QB's. I think Four will be for sale. Taking Will Campbell on a Trade Down is fine with me as long as we get another selection another Second hopefully.

I think this year's draft is more like 2022 than last year. And Ward should probably go 20 like Pickett but he's the one thats going top 5 I don't think 2 QBs will. Hunter and Carter probably inevitably go 1 and 2 because they are the two best prospects and Ward goes 3 (if there's trading to be done I think it will occur in these 3 spots).

If I understand some of the posters correctly, only 3 players are worthy of the top 5 draft slots.

THEREFORE, no team should be willing to move up to 4 from their pick at 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 or 9 or 10.
==============
What do I have wrong?
====================
Obviously, the 4th pick won't be worth anywhere near as much as last year.

If a mythical 5 studs were picked at 4-8 and we were #9, then surely there would be teams wanting to move up to 9 to get the player that they want.

It is no different at 4. Teams from 5 to say 10 all have players that they want. As in every year, what matters is how much they want their player. Those picking 5-7 might want to move up to 4 so they don't lose out on their targeted player, even if the players from 4-10 are of almost the same value.

THE ISSUE is that much less will be offered to move up from 5-10 to 4 than in most years. If Carter and Hunter are gone, perhaps we have the next 6 at an equal BPA. In that case, we might even take a 3rd or 4th to move down to get a BPA about the same as we would get at 4.
There is no advantage to staying at 4 if we consider those at 5,6,7,8,9 and 10 to be of equal value.

As far as other teams, I refuse to believe that there are no players that those in 5-10 don't want enough to give up a 2nd or 3rd or even a 4th.

I agree. Wolf was in charge, Wolf owns that draft, the good and bad of it. As far as a new evaluation system what’s important to know is whether it’s a change under Vrabel, as that should bode well for them, as it isn’t a continuation of the failed system under Belichick, and possibly Wolf as well.
Weren’t there reports last year that Jonathan Kraft was heavily involved in the draft process?
