Remaining Free Agency LT Options ... we still need to draft a guy

His insight was also that they shouldn’t take an OL at #4.
Yeah, Dante and I are going to have to have a sit down at some point between now and the draft... I have a few things I need to 'splain to him about football...

I am ok with them “over investing” in O line. example
- sign Robinson - instantly get to league average at LT
- sign Bradbury at Center
- use 2 of the first 5 picks for an OT and OG (basically top 100 players in the draft)

Then throw them all into the gauntlet, and see how the competition emerges.

IMO, you can never be too strong at OL, strive to make the unit a strength to provide space for a balanced run/pass attack.

Both of those guys make their OL only slightly better, and they would be paying them to make it much better. I don’t want either of them.

I am under the impression that they really like Campbell. He is very strong, and his legs get him exactly where he needs to be. I think he's going to be #4 pick. In any event, the Pats need the elusive left tackle, no ands, ifs, or buts.

I like most of the first round tackles, and I wouldn’t care if they ended up double dipping for any combinations of them. I’m expecting an offensive draft, and could see them double dipping at OL and WR, and adding a RB as well. And I really want Willie Lampkin.

That depends on whether Hunter is there. They can get Maye the receiver he needs at 4 and still get back into the first round for the left tackle they need. I’m fine with it either way, but I have no idea how they have the board set up, and they could have Hunter rated so high that they like him over the tackles. However if Hunter is gone I believe they will go LT.
If Hunter is there we need only 1 team dying for him to give us a haul and rebuild our OL. Can't see drafting him even if he is ranked high.

I think we should forget about getting glitzy (and expensive and likely aging) WR's to please the fanboys and devote as much of the draft, and trade initiatives, to build the O-line. To some extent, given the breadth of our O-line need, the scarcity this year generally of good O-line prospects, and the general reluctance of teams to part with decent O-linemen, we are inevitably going to an extent to have to indulge in a few shots in the dark: secondary options who might or might not work out. That's just how it is. But let's stop feeding the need for flashy moves on the part of fans and set to serious work rebuilding the actual core of the team, which must begin with the fat guys who make the flashy stuff work.
I’m not usually a fanboy of the glitzy WRs but you convinced me. Draft Hunter if he’s available at #4.

The pats have a natural trade partner at #24. The ideal scenario is Hunter at #4 and best available OT at #24 via trade up IMO.

Im wondering what it would cost to go from 38 to 24? In this scenario we’d really need to ensure connerly or ersery imo

I would take Conerly over Ersery every time.

Same, i think youd have to get up to around 24 for conerly. Ersery may be there for us but he could also go high 30s itd be risky

so Washington should have taken Marvin Harrison Jr last year? He was the number 2 on a lot of big boards last year...
PFF, Tankathon, SI, Drafttek, Draftwire, Sporting News, Draft Countdown, CBS, Draftplex, etc etc

You can't shouldn't draft without regard to team needs.
QB is different. Reaching on a tackle because of need is not smart

It’s not too late to fix the offensive line in free agency, if his medicals check out sign Jedrick Willis, he was a very good starter early in his career and he’s young.

Also sign Oli Udoh, he’s a full year removed from injury, is younger than the really old guys, can play tackle or guard and is undervalued as a small school prospect who worked his way into relevance.

Find starters in free agency and you can take the best player available in the draft and fill remaining holes or question marks.

if you trade back, is it really a reach to take Will Campbell? I don't think it is.

BPA is a fine concept if you are dealing with a roster that is potentially filled out. But when its not, you need to prioritize how you handle the rebuild, akin to triage.

I do not want to make this decision this month. #4 doesn't seem to be the guaranteed prime player we hoped it would be with one flaw after a potential another. The whole Will Campbell thing has me spinning. My initial thought was "stay away". You HAVE to take a top 4 player with the pick. You get the shot at a guy like that so rarely. So one of Carter,, Hunter, or Graham, has to wind up with you assuming one QB in the top 4. I was hoping for Graham and have a potential wagon of a DL with Young, Barmore, Graham and Williams, Or go with a Hunter and the Uber athlete and Start a secondary for the ages with Hunter Gonsalves, and Davis. Now those are 2 exciting possibilities.

What I cannot see is picking a guy who is considered to be a Guard by so many, when you need a LT. If we were picking in the teens maybe, but not 4. We haven't had this kind of pick since 2001 (also a year when we where having a ANOTHER WR being thrown down our face. Fortunately we did the RIGHT thing and picked Seymoure and allowed the media to cry all summer and fall and they didn't stop until the Superbowl parade.

So this post poster still has no idea what is the best to do. I guess just hope that one of the big 3 appear at the pick and if not, then I have to say. TRADE down. That extra #2 will feel great at the end of the day.

with Vrabel in Cleveland last year, and Doug Marrone literally drafting Cam Robinson, makes you wonder why no news has been forthcoming about these two guys

Picks 36 & 69 is close to an even swap. Worth it to secure one of the 2nd tier OTs.

Drafting an LT is the only sensible option left.

Taking a WR is what clown shoes franchises do when they have OL like the Patriots.

Figure they know all the players much better than you do.

That includes the guys they’ve worked closely with, as you’ve just pointed out, plus the guys already in the building, the rest of the league, and on the draft board.

But keep second guessing them if you want. Personally I’m inclined to wait and see what they do. All our clamor won’t change it for the better anyway.
