This.
I mean, I get being frugal and spending smartly and all that - but more importantly, you need players who can play, and in free agency, you pay a premium for that.

The Patriots are in the position of having more than enough money to spend, especially since Maye will be on his rookie deal for 4 more years.

I’m not talking about “ being frugal,” I want them to spend every dime they can spend, I just want it spent on the right players at the right price. I wanted Christian Wilkins and Saquon in the last free agency, but both went their hearts desired. But I would have been fine with paying either or both top money at their position. What I consider stupid spending was the Giants giving Robert Hunt 100 $$ million. If Justin Jefferson, Cee Dee Lamb, or JaMarr Chase was available I would be more than happy to see 30 million + spent for any one of them, what I’m not good with is giving a second tier WR first tier money. It’s a really bad way to build a team.

The Patriots have a ton of work to do, and Wolf needs to spend what they have to build contender, and you don’t do that by overpaying. If Tee Higgins will take #2 money then sign me up, if he wants to be paid like a #1 then he can go elsewhere.

You're going to be disappointed.

I’ll be pissed, period. Paying #2 receivers like number 1 receivers is really stupid, and it creates all sorts of problems down the road. The goal is to build a great team, not to satisfy fan desperation. Any GM who acts like a fan will do a truly ****ty job.
Agree, I would try to trade for DJ Moore, I don't know how is his contract situation but It seems he wants out.

It don't matter if you pay this guy 40 a year. He's not coming here.
30m per year is likely what Higgins wants.

He's only 25 so a 150m/5 year deal will see him enter free agency again at age 30.

I don't see why not. The consequences of failing to draft a WR properly mean you have to pay a free agent to get the job done.

He's going to get more than 30 million. His infinitely better than Ridley.

You're going to have to overpay this guy big time for him to come here. He's not taking a contract from Patriot says equal to another team.

Look for the Bengals to tag Higgens.

Be on the lookout for a potential Meyers reunion. He’s due $14M in 2025 and his dead cap is $8M.

Tyreek Hill wants out too although I doubt the Dolphins would trade him to the Pats. Davonte Adams is likely to be cut. There is always a chance that the Bengals feel they cannot get a deal done with Ja’Marr Chase and decide to trade him (doubtful, but a possibility). DK Metcalf could be on the table. There are potential options if the Pats don’t go with Higgins.

Higgins will come here. He has a young and up and coming QB throwing to him.. I say sign Higgins and trade the 3rd for judon for DK Metcalf.
Why would Seattle give up DK for a 3rd?

Because a 5th wouldn't be enough.

He's good, but it's not like he's Tyreek Hill or something.
Nobody said he was Tyreek Hill, but the only way a Metcalf trade for a 3rd makes sense is if he’s willing to resign with the Pats. And if he does an extension with us it won’t be cheap. I’m not giving up a 3rd for a 1 year rental.

That I agree with.
The only FA I'd want is Higgins, and the only trade I'd want is Olave. Why? Simple. Age. I want a WR who will still be in their prime by the time Maye hits his option year.

He’s never had more than 74 receptions in a season. That’s a decent number 2, but not close to number 1 numbers.
Just curious, how are you defining a #1 WR. I keep seeing he isn't a #1 but am not clear on what it means specifically. Was Edelman a #1, is JSN?

I believe 2025 ($10 M) is the last year of the guaranteed portion of the contract. Other than that I don’t see any reason why he or Kraft would not want a reunion.
If Bob fires Mayo, the last thing he should do is hire a coach with an extremely bad reputation. It would a horrible PR move.

Why would Seattle give up DK for a 3rd?
Because accomplished WRs like Adams and Diggs went for less. Why wouldn't Seattle give him up for a 3rd.. Adams went for a 2nd..

To me it’s a guy who is a 100 reception plus receiver who requires double coverage most of the time. They are also central to the opposing defense game plan for stopping that team. I don’t think a guy who averages less than 70 receptions a season, and isn’t the top receiver on his own team qualifies as a #1.
