Comparing 2021 and 2024 offensive rosters

Let's hope Brown, Jacobs, and Lowe are gone next year. Need Alaric Jackson or someone for LT. We will see. Add a FA and a draft pick and then the draft pick or Wallce is the swing tackle. We have one of the worse OLs in the NFL, we have to let Brown, Jacobs, and Lowe walk out the door - no sentimentality.

The coaching staff has had enough time to look at the OL to know what to do moving forward. Hopefully Wolf is replaced or we hire a real GM as his new boss. RK and Glazer as the GM did not work out, and Wolf/Groh as the scout team was as bad.
I forgot about Ben Brown somehow. But I agree. He did his job but not a lot of reason to keep him. You're keeping Strange as your hopeful starter, and Jake Andrews recovered from injury is probably also better than Brown. Then you are likely also drafting someone. So no need for Brown. You could probably keep him in camp and on the PS for a period of time just in case though.

???

It sounds like you are determining the final 53 for 2025.

"Coming back" means competing in camp for possible positions.

Brown is an ERFA and will be paid minimum pay to compete. There is no reason to cut him before camp. He competes for the last IOL, one who can back up at center. Leveritt had that position in 2024. I think that we should always have a 3rd center how has played lots of reps for us, even if he is on the Practice Squad.

One thing I'd like to look at, also, is consider the gap between players and what upgrades need to be made/are available to try to somewhat equalize these rosters:

QB:
Drake is already far better than Mac, so this is covered.

RB:
I'd kind of consider this a wash between 2021 and 2024, but I do think a solid receiving RB would be nice.

WR:
Hopefully Bourne in 2025 will be close to his former self in 2021.
Boutte won't be as good as Meyers in 2025 but will be better than what Agholor was giving
If you can sign Higgins then perhaps he gives you around what Meyers gave you, and Pop is an extra.

TE:
A wash IMO. 2024's group may be better since they're being utilized better, even if Jonnu is the actual better player.

OL:
LT - Lowe vs Wynn is kind of a wash? Lowe could be improved on but not easy to do.
LG - You can find a Karras-level player in free agency, or better. Trey Smith is available.
C - Andrews may return, or possibly Cole Strange will be the new center.
RG - Wash. Onwenu.
RT - Brown was very good at RT in '21, versus Jacobs not being good. But drafting/signing a decent RT shouldn't be TOO hard. Maybe Caedan Wallace can be that guy, but I'd still try to invest in the position.

So, all in all, seems like the needs to match '21 are to sign a WR (Higgins definitely does it, though there are other options), a guard and sign/draft a right tackle. At least in my opinion. Should get you a wild card caliber offense if the playcalling improves and the defense also improves (should spend heavily on defensive free agents, since as @One-If-By-Sea said, those guys are usually more plentiful and higher quality)
Lowe is horrible. If he is the LT next year that indicates we aren’t serious about winning and probably made no coaching or front office changes and screwed up another offseason and won’t win more than 5 games.

Isn’t that what I said? I said he can be on the team in camp and then go to the PS. The point of the discussion was determining starters and quality backups in 2025.

This year's squad is so bad, it's tricking many into thinking the 2021 team was good. Even that roster was really bad and only recovered from starting 2-4 because they went on a large stretch of playing bad teams.

O-line wasn’t Swiss Cheese in 2021. Can’t do much when the line is all-time bad.
RT was. People forget the ruinous decision to move Wynn out to RT. He’s a LT or LG.* Remember Belichick bringing in a completely washed up Marcus Cannon to replace Wynn, who almost got B Hoyer killed in Green Bay by picking daisies instead of blocking R Gary.

We were saved by a Jets PS player, Connor McDermott, who is better than either of the starting OTs we’ve been fielding.

Really the loss of good OL coaching and very poor personnel decisions—and here I include Bill’s decision to trade back with the Chiefs so they could draft All Pro CB McDuffie and we took Strange—have brought the team to desperation time.

Hell, everyone knew last draft after QB and WR we would go OT, which helped fuel the unprecedented run on them.

* UPDATE. Isaiah Wynn rotated in at RG for the Dolphins and did a great job, according to their OC. We just basically gave him away.

And many people here and at Pats Pulpit were connecting the dots that LT Bernhard Raimann, whom the Colts took in the third round (pick 77) in 2022 and who has become their mainstay, would be picked by the Patriots. He was a German speaking player following in the footsteps of Seabass.

Did Hoyer play in 21? I think you mixing up 21 and 22.

Our SOS this year has been one of the weakest in the NFL. The 2024 Pats played a lot of really bad teams too (that is why the Pats have a low SOS).

This year's squad is so bad ........... Can you imagine if we had an average SOS? We would be a 1 win team.

You’re thinking of 2022 and not 2021 on pretty much all of these points.

Also, Bill tried to move Wynn to guard also and he got pissed off and basically quit on the team because he was about to be a FA and guards have a lower market value.
