Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

Well, I assume they're going to add some players on that side of the ball this off season (and remove some guys as well).
I don't think that will be enough good Coaching matters and we don't have that in Mayo. He's the neck of this abysmal Coaching staff unfortunately.

They need new players and coaches on defense PF2.
And I'm hoping Mayo is gone.

"An experienced former DC to help Covington." "An experienced assistant head coach to help Mayo." I don't get this concept of hiring hand-holders for coaches who can't do their jobs. What's the point?

Guys work their way up the ranks in Football: not kiss their way to the Top. Will the Krafts admit they made a mistake?? They gave Mayo a premier job he didn't even earn.

If you get rid of Mayo, and want to get a hotshot HC candidate, that means Kraft is going to get rid of the entire coaching staff, the entire football OPS and get a new GM.

Does anyone see RKK doing this after doing the bare minimum last off season to get a staff in place?

It's like getting a new QB and then getting the right staff and coaches around him to make sure you develop him properly. They're trying to develop Mayo into an able HC. I don't think it'll work and Mayo seems like a lost cause, but I understand the concept.

I’m seeing a pattern with the Krafts.

They are meddlers. They did it with Parcells and that caused Parcells to leave. They brought in BB and gave him full control. We were hoping that Kraft had learned his lesson and BB was making sure it stayed that way.

If worked for a while but I get the sense that Kraft wanted recognition for the dynasty that BB and Brady got.

As BB’s tenure continued Kraft began eroding BB’s control to the point of it being a more collaborative effort, which is where we are now.

In a collaborative effort he can claim credit for the success, and he hired a toady puppet in Mayo that will allow the Krafts to call the shots.

I hope he sees the light and fires Mayo, but I fear that a la Jerry Jones he has things set up the way he wants to.

Having control is one thing, having the ability to lead the team into a champion team is something else, and there is no indication Kraft has the ability to do that.

I thought this was a good conversation (well until the end) and am glad @Ian transcribed it: TRANSCRIPT: Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan on 98.5 Talking About the Future of the Patriots Coaches

Indirectly, Mayo has said that he's thinking about coach changes this week, to be ready for the end of the season.

Here's some of the quotes from Andrew Callahan who says he doesn't think Mayo is getting fired, but if not, who else might be in trouble:
I am no AVP cheerleader by any means, but he has been the only one of the coaches I feel that has improved from week 1 to now. In addition, he seems to be helping develop Drake. Many of the beat guys said over the summer that Maye's footwork needed a lot of refining, and overall, Maye seems to have pretty solid footwork only a few months later. If AVP is the scapegoat over Covington or any of the position coaches, I will be annoyed. I would think if AVP did get axed, it would be more of a personality/philosophy clash rather than results on the field.

Callahan seemed to think it would be more the WR or OL coaches on the offense side who could be in trouble. And he thinks that something will shake up on the defensive side.

I am not against bringing back Josh Mcdaniels just for familiarity purposes.

I liked the Scott Peters hire when it was announced, but the offensive line has been a disaster. It could just be the fact that all the offensive linemen suck, but the shuffling around with the various combinations and the constant mental errors don't reflect well on Peters. As far as the receivers coach goes, see you later.

That sort of process begins with gaining experience as a coordinator. You don't plug a guy into the franchise's most important role and then "groom him" to see if it takes and he can function effectively. It's maddening. As a longtime season ticket holder I feel cheated by this season, all because of Bob Kraft's sappy man-love for Mayo.

Kraft has a readymade option in Vrabel, who he should have hired over Mayo.

I see 2 different issues. The training/progression of Maye and the overall offense. Overall the offense is #32 in the NFL, while Maye is continually improving. AVP has 1 abysmal performance and 1 great performance. I think AVP is a great QB coach, and way over his head as an OC. If those 2 issues are considered, I would suggest keeping AVP, but not as the OC.
