Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

I think they should consider it, because there are some troubling signs.

That being said, I think the fand and media are going overboard with over analyzing every sentence out of the guy's mouth and discounting how truly terrible the roster is. They took one of the worst teams in the NFL and made the conscious choice to roll over pretty much all of their cap space to next year. What did people expect? This team sucks, not sure how anyone expected the record to show otherwise. And despite all the overanalyzing of every sentence he says, there's really no indication he's rubbing the locker room the wrong way with guys speaking out against him. Not even anonymous rumblings. And for all the *****ing and moaning because guys seem "light" even in a game like yesterday where they got blown out early they played better in the 2nd half so it's not like they're rolling over - they just aren't very good.

The in-game management has been concerning and it doesn't feel like too many players are getting better. Those are the troubling signs for me. But if they actually liked him as a head coaching candidate last year and weren't just making a move to make a move after BB, then I doubt anything they've seen will sour them that much on him to fire him after 1 year.

At the start of the season I would have said there was no chance. However, everytime Mayo opens his mouth I think the chance increases.

Mayo was supposed to be a players coach compared to Bill. Bill might have been hard on his team but he always took responsibility with the media.

Everytime Mayo talks he is throwing the players under the bus. I miss Bill’s mentality of players win games and coaches lose them.

If a player occasionally makes mental mistakes it’s on the player. If the team consistently makes mental mistakes then it’s on the coach.

Our offense is predictable, we run in heavy sets and pass out of five wide. Our defense isn’t disciplined.

Part of the appeal of a new coach and a front office without Bill was supposed to be playing the young guys so they can improve. Maye is pretty much the only one I can point to who has improved during the year. White looked like he was going to be the other one at the start of the season but has kind of faded as the season went along.

That's why I call him bait and switch two times Mayo.

Maye is entertaining to watch, for sure, but I really haven't seen any improvement. He's still throwing late game picks. He's good for one strip sack a game. He's still allergic to throwing it away or taking a sack.

Now, an competent O-line should clean some of those things up but he also needs to stop doing the things I just listed.

I'm going to play devil's advocate with Mayo.
It seems like he's a cardboard cutout of a coach - hand picked due to identity, not competence...

BUT. He's not a dumb guy. We give rookie QB's with talent all kinds of leeway and 3 years + to figure it out. So, what about coaches? He's certainly been groomed by the GOAT coach, so might it take him a couple years to understand what he needs to do - and WHO he needs to surround himself with.

He needs to be cutthroat with the assistant coaches & coordinators this offseason though.

This clown has got to go. And its not just Mayo, Wolf and Covington they gots to go.

Mayo: "Once they cross the white lines there is nothing I can do for them, nothing any coach can do for them"
So Jerod if that is the case why are you still standing on the sideline after the game starts, Why don't you just go home.

Wait for it he is going to walk back those comments tomorrow. Well this is what i meant to say, it's not that we are soft we are just playing soft. You'll see it going to be another version of another walk back. This is whats so disappointing its the easy stuff. He can't keep his mouth shut if he doesn't have something sensible to say. So why should we trust him as a head coach when he can't get the easy stuff right. Yeah great, "he is such a breath of fresh air" geez !!. Penalties over and over, thats on the coaches. We are in week 12. week 12 !! and we are still seeing this stujff.

I would absolutely give the job to Josh McDaniels if he wants it. I know it hasn't worked as a head coach for him in the past, but there is precedent with certain guys that they are able to overcome that. The bottom line is that this market works for him, he's proven it over and over here; even making Mac Jones look very good at times as a rookie.

My 2nd choice would be Flores. 3rd choice- Ben Johnson.

Yeah !! McDaniels, Matt Patricia, Groh, Crennel, etc all groomed by the "Goat". how did that work out. I don;t want to spend 3 years finding out. Again, i had low expectations but these guys look completley unprepared.

Josh literally got ran out of the locker room in LV he was so bad. His HC career is over and he'd be lucky to ever get a positional coaching position ever again.

If the 49ers somehow make the dumb decision to fire Kyle, Kraft has to go after him right?

Would he be considered a retread by some of the posters on here?
I do think the cracks are showing in SF, but I think he has about 2 more years until the cord is cut. He and Lynch were rumored to get fired in the 2021 season when they were 2-4.

He'd get another job fairly quickly.

Just more years of suffering for the fans. The kids are still getting paid regardless, there is no reason to do more. They know Mayo, he's Soft....

The problem is that the players are not focused. It's Mayo"s job to help focus the team. He is failing at that.

The defense is also a bit of a mess. But, it goes back to focus and attention to detail. They need to do better
Mayo was a mistake. If the Kraft's could just find a graceful way out, that would be best. But, it's going to be difficult to fire him after just one season. So, as I posted when he was appointed HC, the rebuild will be delayed two or three years longer than it might have taken.

I remember a comment from Ben Coates about how much more relaxed and fun it was to have Pete Carroll as the HC after Bill Parcells left.

Ben may have enjoyed it more, but they weren’t winning games, until BB the hard ass was hired.
And Pete learned a lot from that experience.

Maybe he could be set up with the Mayo Holy Land Travel and Impromptu Meeting Agency.

The point I think you miss Ivan, is that this management team was promised their positions (at least Mayo) when Kraft thought the transition was going to be a coronation, rather than a complete rebuild.

Wouldn't you hire different people to continue an existing 20+ year dynasty than to begin a complete rebuild?

In one circumstance you keep most of the same people, which Kraft basically did. In the other you find someone with their own vision.

What is the vision of this management team? I see no consistency in philosophy. This situation is the result of Kraft making promises during different times he wasn't going to break.

Management was hired for a different situation. It's not the losing. Everything, but Maye, including the coaching and player selection is a complete mess because of hastily hired inexperienced leadership that was originally expected only to steer one of the best boats in the fleet.

How are you supposed to show a philosophy in 6 months? That makes no sense at all. This is still Belichick’s team, plus Maye. Wolfe picked their franchise QB, and he’s stuck with Kraft’s coach. As I said, let’s just give every coach and GM 6 months, if they don’t win a Lombardi in 6 months then ****can them.

I'd give him a second year and possibly even a third if I see positive momentum. This staff has done the monumental task of identifying a franchise qb and he seems to be developing. Outside of qb, nothing has been good enough but I'd give them a season to see if they can learn from their mistakes.

But if we do move on, it needs to be a complete overhaul. GM and anyone that has ever said hello to BB lol. This is a passing league and a new staff should should be offense 1st. Consistently scoring less than 20 points shouldn't happen with Maye playing this well.

No, I don’t want Wolf fired, in fact I think it would be a huge mistake. I don’t want to see them playing musical GM’s, and I think he’s the right guy for the job.
