Judon Trade After Action Review (AAR)

The Patriots sure could have used a pass rush today, I have to wonder if they could have worked out some sort of mutually beneficial new contract for him...or is this another example of he Patriots being cheap, The latter I think. They probably thought that the defense was fine and they did not need to pay Judon. Oops...

Oops?
Nothing Judon has done this season has made Wolf getting a 3rd for him look any less than prescient. You're grinding that 'cheap' axe down to the handle and in this particular instance it looks downright foolish.

For those of us that loved Judon during his time here, but also were honest about his play, this is a bit of a win. But that is not why I made this post. I made it to be fair to Wolf. Good job! A 3rd should be very valuable chip for us in this upcoming draft.
I disagree, I think he would have continued to be a strong contributor here in his role - that said, getting a 3rd round pick for any 32 year old player that's not a quarterback is pretty excellent return.

Sure - but Judon was never really going to be part of the rebuild. And they were *never* going to pay him.
Getting a 3rd round pick for a player his age coming off an injury is *by far* the best thing Wolf has done since he has taken over. Even if you ignore what a low bar that is.

Agree completely. If they end up top 5 in the draft, and MacMillan is there they could take him, and then use a 2nd and the Judon pick, and possibly a 3rd in 26’ to move back up into the mid first for Ersery, and address both WR and LT in the first round.
This is the path.

Use free agency to shore up the D, take your WR and LT in round 1.

This is great!

I'm thinking it's time to (metaphorically) kill the offensive coordinator (no brainer). Defensive coordinator. Probably head coach. And if we have an average or good offensive line, and our defense finds its legs, this team will actually have turned a corner. But I do think coaching and drafting between now and then will make the difference.

Unfortunately I no longer trust the current coaching staff to turn this corner.

Maye was clearly a great pick. Great leader, and developing really wonderfully. Just hope he stays healthy. I'm not a religious man, if anything the opposite. But I will make an exception right now and pray to God Almighty that Maye stays healthy until the Patriots get their @#$# act together wrt protecting the damn QB.

Bad players make coaches look bad...but as I said before the season: Mayo is a dead man walking and will be the fall guy for this season, but he does not have the players. Let's give Wolf one more draft before he is dumped. Except for Drake, this year's draft was pathetic, but the year before was excellent.

This was a good move, Judon was washed and was only productive through mid November

The Pats would have received a very similar pick if they kept Judon and he left via free agency.

Getting rid of your best player is never a good idea.

The Patriots definitely aren’t getting any comp picks anyway, but the idea that Judon could get anywhere near the $20M+ needed for 3rd round comp pick value is wild. He’s not getting half that. He might not even get a quarter of that.

^ 100 % this.
We saw this flawed logic at the time Judon was traded and for some reason we are still seeing it. The Pats should be big time volume buyers in 2025 FA, there Is no way in God's good creation they will see any comp picks, never mind a 3rd rounder.

Like the “money they were going to burn last off season”.

Tom Brady and BB are not here anymore, the Pats are a bad team and will have to overpay to get anyone to sign with them.

Regardless of why, the Pats will be net gainers in FA meaning no comp picks

Drafting Maye was Wolf’s best move. Not spending for jag free agents in the offseason was his second best move, and getting a 3rd for a guy who is toast was 3rd.

I agree with that. Not signing FA JAGs as a Top 2 performance criteria means overall the GM was complete failure in 2024.
