Only in DEI-infested America do nfl head coaches get hired with no, um, head coaching experience.

It didn’t used to work that way.

But that helps the coach ranks. A guy like Jedd Fisch at the University of Washington, whose nfl coaching experience dwarves Mayo’s, took a pile of garbage that was the University of Arizona football program a few years back to a ten-win season.

And look what he did last night against a more talented Michigan team. Dude is an exceptional coach.

Mayo is still trying to figure out if he’s too nice to the players.

Way to go, Robert. If the team loses today, you will be seeing empty seats in future home games.
vrabel was hired with no head coaching experience....just saying.

It's on the table. The spin surrounding a 1-16 season losing 16 straight would have to be incredible for him to keep his job.
It would be the second worst record in NFL History. I think if Maye plays, they'll squeeze out a few wins unless he's a bust. If the roll with Brissett the rest of the season, 1-16 is a real possibility.
Mayo wasnt hired like some yokel off the street who was impressive in interviews.

Kraft and Mayo go way back and they have a personal relationship. Kraft knew that Mayo lacked experience, but he is going to fix that. How do you fire Mayo after he did what you told him to do?

Besides, the 2025 # 1 draft pick (NE presently holds) is the bronze medal after the Lombardi trophy and NE was never in that conversation this season or for the foreseeable future.
It's not out of the ordinary that Owners cut the cord after one season. Like last season, things had to line up for Bill to get the axe. If they set the record for most loses in a 17 game season and the players continue their finger pointing, I can absolutely see Bob cutting the cord as he doesn't like looking bad. I'm also rooting for Bill's return to the NFL as it would make this boring ass league a storyline.

This offensive line is absolutely offensive to watch. The o-line coach should be first to go. Literally as soon as the ball is snapped the players already surrounding Jacoby. No QB is going to survive this assault. We need to spend some high draft picks to shore up this o-line. 2nd in league in getting sacked and most in league getting hit…they seriously trying to murder our QB.

Kraft cant fire Mayo after 1 season where Kraft himself was calling the shots.

Kraft would be called every racist name in the book and be a pariah in NFL circles.

The general purpose of an O-line is pretty much just trying to block the guy in front of you. These players, too many times, cannot do it because they don't have the talent. No amount of good coaching will change that.

Agree 100% with the rest of your post though.

Black coaches have been fired before Mayo, and they’ll be fired after him too… If Patsies go 1-16, it would look worse for Thunderdick if he Didn’t fire him.

I’ve said before in the thread - I think if things continue to be bad even under Drake, they will replace the OC next year with someone more innovative in the west coast offense. If it all still looks bad in year 2 then Mayo will probably be fired then, as they will need to reset things early enough to still take advantage of the remaining 3 years of Drake’s rookie contract. If things still look bad under a new coaching staff and it seems to primarily be due to bad players, then Wolf will be canned.

Regarding Wolf’s drafting, I think it’s way too early to make any proclamations on that. Drake Maye hasn’t played, but I think we can all agree he was worth the 3rd overall regardless of that fact. Polk has looked good so far. Robinson looks great in one area (run block) but awful in the other area (pass block); with some development I think he may become a good player. Wallace looked like, at minimum, a solid RT but we probably won’t know this year due to injury - though he also needs some development anyway. After that it’s kind of a mixed bag - Baker has athletic potential but needs a lot of seasoning on the mental side, Dial is meh, and Bell really hasn’t shown me anything but he was a 7th round dart throw anyway.

So overall the draft could’ve been better but it definitely could’ve been a lot worse too, it seems like your top 4 picks are all on track to be starters or at least quality backups. Of course, they didn’t do jack **** in free agency beyond keeping many guys they already had but that seemed to be a conscious choice. I’ll withhold judgment on that until I see what they do with their cash in year 2.

One of the interesting threads going around is how Mayo doesn't really have any coaching connections to young offensive coaches other than Caley, who couldn't be talked into coming back for a big sack of money and the chance to be the head coach of the offense.

If AVP goes and Mayo is on the hot seat next year, what young offensive mind who doesn't have a connection to Mayo is going to want to come here?

BB still had the final say when he was here. This is a new rebuild.
That was the Mac rebuild. This is the Maye rebuild. If this one goes like the last one, then we'll have the [insert 1st round draft pick here] rebuild.

It’s definitely a concern. That’s why Drake needs to play. The draw for any OC candidates would be the potential to work with this promising QB and make him look great. If you do that then you may turn yourself into a HC candidate fast. Look at Slowik in Houston. HC candidate because he made Stroud look great for 1 year. Even his QB coach was a hot OC candidate name.

Agreed. A lot is going to hinge on Maye looking better than decent.

If we hit on Drake Maye the rest of the draft class could get sucked into a black hole and the draft would still be a home run.

There was also a report that Bill basically said Brady was done after Tom left, also that he wanted to send Brady packing for Jimmy in 2014 and that he wanted to trade Gronk to Detroit. Seems that Bill hasn't been all that great at personnel evaluation for several years, not to mention the drafts....
The mods built you another safe space... go there.

Go there, nobody wants to hear you recycle old tired material.
I blame Mac Jones for giving me old tired material. He's the worst!!111!!!~!
