Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

One of the big reasons I believe in Wolf is the years he spent at his father’s side in the Green Bay organization. He was putting scouting reports together when he was 14 years old, and he has years of experience despite being a relatively young GM. This reminds me of Belichick’s background, and my hope is that he ends up having a similar career. Is that a guarantee of success? Obviously not, but it does give a ton of information on how to be a successful GM, which is really hard to find in the NFL. I also like the fact that he’s a younger GM, as the Patriots needed to bring in young minds to replace Belichick. I didn’t want them rehashing the old GM’s and coaches who are always in circulation. Overall I have far more confidence that Wolf was the right choice at GM than I do Mayo as head coach. And while Mayo was hired by Kraft I think Wolf will get to choose his own guy if Mayo is fired.
I could not possibly disagree more. Wolf has been fireably bad, and I would fire him immediately., I could not care less what the **** he did on daddy's knee.

It's on the table. The spin surrounding a 1-16 season losing 16 straight would have to be incredible for him to keep his job.
Mayo wasnt hired like some yokel off the street who was impressive in interviews.

Kraft and Mayo go way back and they have a personal relationship. Kraft knew that Mayo lacked experience, but he is going to fix that. How do you fire Mayo after he did what you told him to do?

Besides, the 2025 # 1 draft pick (NE presently holds) is the bronze medal after the Lombardi trophy and NE was never in that conversation this season or for the foreseeable future.

As long as Brissett is QB the D is in trouble. No way they can hold up having to play 40+ minutes a game because the O can't get it together.

btw, It's looking more and more like Steve B was the brains behind the D.
Pray tell how did you figure out Steve was the brains? Pats have given up 5 less points through 5 games. Of course that means Bill gets zero credit too.

Yes I am fully aware this is highly unlikely but the only way I see it happening is if he loses the locker room especially since he was hired because he connects with the players. The reason I started this thread (which I am sure many will hate) is because there seems to be some cracks in the foundation already.

Godchaux recently called out some nameless guys on the defense calling them selfish and insinuating there is some freelancing going on. I think most of us have surmised that he is likely talking about Keion White or Josh Uche. Guys looking out for number one already only a month in is a recipe for disaster.

Demario Douglas openly voiced his displeasure about his lack of targets and Brissett spoke to him on it. Douglas still seems to be pretty demonstrative on the field with his palms up in the air on occasion and per Evan Lazar some pretty visible frustration on the all 22. There was also rumors he was walking back to the locker room early before the end of the game on Sunday. To this one I say, "Who the hell is Demario Douglas to act this way?" There looks to be some talent there but he's a second year 6th round pick coming off a 60 for 650 year. He isn't exactly Calvin Johnson.

Three team leaders out for the foreseeable future in the last couple games. Bentley, Andrews, and the word is Dugger will likely miss some time. Three missing captains in the locker room of a young, struggling team with a young head coach trying to right the ship. If we already have guys not buying in like Douglas and the unnamed defensive players not having team captains around isn't going to help.

This is obviously speculation but I get the feeling that Mayo isn't on the same page with AVP and potentially Wolfe, on when Maye plays. Mayo when asked about the starter going forward after the Jets game responded with "I don't know" then quickly backtracked in his next interview with some nonsense about "watching the tape" which to me reading between the lines is he was told Brissett would remain the starter. Maybe I am wrong but Mayo has called AVP the "head coach of the offense" which could be read multiple ways but the fact that Maye isn't playing yet seems to point to AVP.

Alex Van Pelt. I know most on here were as underwhelmed with the AVP hire as I was but he seemed to be the first guy that actually say yes which obviously isn't a good thing. I did just mention how I don’t think him and Mayo are on the same page on the Maye timeline and I think some of that stems from AVP not wanting to reduce/change the playbook for a rookie with a different skillset. Not adapting to the starter is what got him canned in Cleveland last year. Van Pelt was able to piece it together with numerous journeymen quarterbacks and get solid results but when it came time to adapting his offense to a guy with a different skillset he allegedly balked and wanted to make Watson play his way. Obviously that isn't a power struggle he was going to win seeing how the Browns sold their soul for Watson but that isn't the approach I would want for our rookie quarterback with a vert limited supporting cast. In addition to any overall philosophy issues or starting quarterback debate AVP just doesn't seem to be a very good coordinator. The real all "All 22" tape nerds like Greg Bedard and Evan Lazar haven't loved what they have seen. Lazar basically has said AVP isn't getting guys in position to succeed with screens or misdirection to help aide the terrible offensive line. Bedard highlighted a play from Sunday on a toss play to Stevenson that lost 7 yards because he had Thornton in the slot trying to block a guy and got blown up.

The outside noise. I know everyone wants to pretend that NFL coaches and players just "ignore the noise" but we all know that isn't the reality. Mayo's new kinder and gentler approach with the media is what it is, but with more and more pitchforks starting to come out and some hard decisions on the horizon Mayo's feet really could be held to the fire soon. It doesn't help that his former coach and franchise legend is taking not so veiled shots at him and the organization. A lot of the media and fanbase are going to take Bill's word as gospel whether he has an axe to grind or not. I don't know think media scrutiny is going to be a huge factor in any decisions the new regime or owner make but it definitely isn't making things easier.

I know right now the thought of moving on from Mayo is extremely premature but so far things seem to be going about as poorly as they could. My issue is that the coaching staff he has to heavily rely on isn't very good and he may not even have the authority to dictate the personnel on the field. Combine that with locker room issues starting to bubble up when avoiding things like that was supposed to be Mayo's specialty it makes me pretty concerned with how things may go over the next 4 months or so.
No but if this season is a 2-15 campaign he'll make staff changes.

If they suck in year 2 I can see Mayo being dismissed.

If they continue to suck on the o-line next year I can see Wolfie gone as well.

The Pats are 1 dimensional on offense. Cant throw the ball to save their axx.

During the NE Super Bowl era, we watched the Pats turn opponents into 1 dimensional offenses. Typically taking away the run, but no passing offense works too. Next Sunday, the Pats will be forced to pass because Houston will have a substancial lead early.

I genuinely think Mayo is a guy that has good HC potential that got hired wayy too early.

If we win only 1-2 more games the rest of the way, there is a fair chance he could be a one and done.

There's no evidence Mac was a Kraft decision.
There’s been reports he was… people can ignore these reports but that’s a choice.

There’s also been reports BB wanted to trade Mac by year two, and reports Mac snuck up the backstairs to the owner’s office to complain about his coach. Again you can ignore this… but it’s willful ignorance.

If there are so many reports, give us the links. Should be easy to do.

Well since I started this thread we lost a miserable slog of a game at home to a terrible team and had a captain arrested for drugs and beating and strangling someone. Things are spinning.

I’ve already done this numerous times… beating a dead horse and jumping through hoops is not my job. Use google.

Bill picked the groceries including Mac Jones. It was all Bill's responsibility for better or worse. Nobody else. The end.

Bob Kraft announced collaboration entering 2021.

His word means more than some third party website. Don't be foolish.

Belichick was the GM of this team in 2021. That's a fact no matter what website reports it.

A collaboration might give him their opinion but as GM he was under no obligation to accept it. He drafted Mac Jones, it was 100% his decision, Kraft didn't hold a gun to him and order him to pick Jones, the decision was totally Bill. Nobody else. And if he picked a guy he didn't really want and there's no evidence at all of that, that would still be 100% on him.

Mac Jones = Bill's boy.

There was also a report that Bill basically said Brady was done after Tom left, also that he wanted to send Brady packing for Jimmy in 2014 and that he wanted to trade Gronk to Detroit. Seems that Bill hasn't been all that great at personnel evaluation for several years, not to mention the drafts....
