I don't think we know how much latitude Brissette has at the line of scrimmage, but the Jets were doing very little to disguise that they were coming on pretty every much play where the Patriots had more than five yards to go. AVP should have been quick slants and screens - or at least encourage Brissette to check out of the down field stuff when they showed blitz. The Pats have a QB who is slow and does not identify OL blocking assignments. The NE QB does not check out of a play that has no hope of working. The NE QB just runs what has been called hoping for the best. Maybe something will open up because the NE QB has no clue where to throw presnap. Forget all that looking for matchups nonsense. Just forge ahead like a Caveman QB.
We can blame the OL and blame the WRs and blame the OC just like in the days of Bledsoe.
The next person to be fired will be AVP.
Maybe you're right that Brissette cannot get the ball out fast enough, or that he's a career backup because he doesn't see what the defense is going to do. Maye can certainly get the ball out fast. The question is whether Maye understands what he is seeing at the line. In college, it was always pretty clear where the defensive weaknesses were from tape. Not so at this level. They're all very good to excellent.
The patriots have the size and skilled players to runs lots of blitz busting quick passing plays. Hooper impressed me last night and at 6'4" - 260 he is a load for even the linebackers to deal with. We know Henry is solid receiver. Having them block against a blitz is a waste unless RS is rolling like the first two games.
It's frustrating. But we knew this was going to be a tough year.
