So signing Okorafor, Jordan and Leverett as free agents and relying on Lowe to start... that was smart?

BB lives rent free in your spacious head. He's gone. Talk about this team instead of living in the past.
Check the pressures and sacks allowed. Jordan isn't the problem. He was only added this year after Sow was injured. He is an OK backup OG and emergency #3 C.

I like Robinson's future. Mayo likes Robinson's future. But his future isn't now. When Sow returns, I would not be surprised to see Robinson be removed as a starter. Either Sow or Onwenu should be starting. Wallace isn't a LT. We should see if he is a RT. Give him reps at RT and perhaps we will have a solid RT starter next year, or at worst our backup RT and OL on jumbo sets.

To me, this is not complicated. The Krafts chose to buy the argument that the player acquisition staff - Wolf et al - were better than the team's dismal record of failure in Belichick's last few years would suggest because Bill ignored their input, and that once Bill was removed their sound advice could form the basis for future acquisitions and all would be well. This has turned out to be utter horseshit. Wolf at al were part of the problem, integral to the team's player acquisition failures and misjudgments in strategic planning for player acquisition.

The Krafts should finish the job of cleaning out this failed group. I would fire Wolf and his merry band of fools this week. He blows.
Well, either you are 100% spot on... or the Krafts "threw in the towel" before FA even started this year and decided to go for "Back to back" at the top of the draft to rebuild.

Not sure which is worse.

I have been saying since the end of last season that the enitre purpose of this season is to develop and evaluate the players currently on the roster, Maye first and foremost. I do not care how many games they win. If they win more, that might suggest they are headed in the right direction and might "teach them how to win." If they lose more, that demonstrates the need for better players, and the resulting higher draft position will be helpful in accomplishing that. It is a wash. Under my rationale for this year, the only reason to start Maye in actual games is to assist in his development and evaluation. In my judgment, the offense, the o-line in particular but the WR's as well, are so dismally bad that with respect to Maye's development there would be no benefit whatever - aside from appeasing a few misguided fanboys - to his starting at this point, and quite possibly, given the virtual impossibility of improving the team markedly this season in these areas, no point is his doing so at all this entire year. It is that bad. The argument that he might get hurt playing behind this o-line I do not find as compelling, but I think it is a legitimate concern which is worthy of some consideration.

The focus ought to be on putting in place an administrative team which can effectively address the team's deficiencies. The first step in that process is to clean house in the GM/player acquisition staff, and the first move ought to be firing Wolf and putting in place an actual GM, then allowing that person to determine which members of Wolf's staff, if any, are to be retained. There is no reason to wait.

Jacoby got sacked 5 times... he got sacked 3 times last game and the only reason it wasn't more is because the Jets Defense is better. He's faced the highest pressure rate in the NFL.

Nothing is getting better until they get better linemen.
I suppose that it seems right to put down the team when a poor OL is doing its best with their starting LT and LG out on injuries, and two of our new players are on their 3rd game (Wallace, Robinson, Jacobs and Thomas).

The OL was at their worst. I think that we did learn something that most already knew. Wallace is not our future at LT. He seems unlikely to even have a future as a swing OT.
======================
We will have somewhat "better" linemen with
1) Robinson is replaced at RG by Sow or Onwenu.
2) Lowe and Jacobs as our LT's.

OPTION ONE WHEN HEALTHY
Lowe/Jacobs, Sow/Jordan, Andrews, Onwenu/Robinson, Wallace/Jacobs

OPTION TWO WHEN HEALTHY
Lowe/Jacobs, Jordan, Andrews, Sow/Robinson, Onwenu/Wallace

I'd rather watch us got winless with Drake than with Jacoby..
If Maye starts for the forseeable future, then get used to Milton at QB. Maye is very. very unlikely to last the season without being severeley injured.

I share the frustration and desperation, but I fear no QB can perform behind this OL. They have young guys playing out of position, so I think things can get better. As difficult as it is to watch Brissett, I would not play Maye until they do.
Perhaps we should add Lowe (better than anyone we have at LT), Sow (better than anyone we have at OG), and give newcomers Jacobs and Thomas more reps.

Or, maybe, the JuJu, Thornton and Mac Jones picks were just Bill doing what Kraft asked him to: use a collaborative approach to player selection with the committee composed of himself, Wolf and the scouts. Callahan wrote that this was definitely the case with JuJu. I believe it was the case with Mac based on video of draft night. I don't know about Tyquan other than to say a speedy guy is not a Belichick type of WR, and that they went down to Baylor to scout him.

Now, this doesn't mean that the picks that panned out were Belichick's guys. I don't believe he was the brain behind taking Christian Gonzalez since he seemed to be high on Forbes.

Bill's guys for the good: Dugger, Jennings, Barmore, Keion White, Marcus Jones, Rham Stevenson.
Bill's guys for the bad: Mapu, Ryland, Jake Andrews (they saw him down at Birmingham), Zappe, Kevin Harris, Strange
Bill's mediocre guy: Uche

Who knows? Thornton, Douglas, Boutte, Sow, Mafi, Pierre Strong, Onwenu, Gonzalez

Not to humble brag too much, but I think I said something around FA/draft time that the defense needed some attention, too. Because of injury concerns, age, and contract issues...and I was told I was stupid.

I felt the defense was a little overrated because of how most teams did not take the Patriots seriously. Would you give your best effort offensively if you knew you only had to score a couple TDs and you'd probably win?

I'll be blunt... the Belichick of 2020-2023 was not the same guy. Sure, he could scheme defenses well enough, but his eye for talent completely left him. His knack for knowing when to move on from a guy and when to hold on to them vanished.

We may have underestimated how much McDaniels was doing to keep Belichick in check and cover his mistakes on offense. Look at what happened once he left. Was Josh really the only guy left that would say anything negative to Bill? I don't know, but...it's hard for me to not look at what happened and not think that way.

What you don't like 98 yards passing? Lol

Watching Marcus on Jones on big WRs is like a man among boys.. Mike Williams and lazard are just to big for those guys. If Purdy dices us up then I'm officially backing out on the defense being top 10.
We may not be a top 10 Defense without Barmore and Bentley. Some folks said how important it was to add a DT in free agency. We are paying the price. We may be "OK" at MLB with Tavai, McMillan, Takitaki and Mapu (and perhaps some help from one of the others). However, the DL is a weakness.

Two all-out blitzes later, you would been saying how unlucky it was for Maye to be out for the season with an injury. With game in hand, the jets were allowing Maye breathing room as he ran out the clock. If the patriots wanting to threaten to score, the situation would be changed.
I knew this would be a likely response. I'm still pissed.

2025 is and should still be the focus. Agreed we should let cadean play at rt and end all this experimenting out of position. See what we have with wallace at rt and let layden learn for a year. Especially after seeing onwenu’s performance at rt this year.

The best is to hope we have our rt for the future and can manage as best we can with lowe/jacobs at LT until next years draft ( i see nothing in fa next year atm)

One other point. Getting rid of Zappe was stupid. They should play Maye ONLY when it will benefit his development to do so, not because Brissett, as is entirely likely, succumbs to injury. Starting Milton would be a silly waste of time. He is not ready to benefit from the experience and his play would likely be so substandard that evaluation of other offensive players would be compromised. (I think Callahan is the best of the beat writers. I don't know what gave him such a foolish idea.)

Any thoughts on how Wallace played at LT for the first time? I haven’t looked at any stats showing how many pressures he gave up. I know he had the two penalties that may have been back to back.

Blah blah blah...

Talk about 2024 and the new regime. Nobody cares about the past.
I'm not the one calling an average defense "top 5"...

Yes, we should have added a couple of front six defenders. Clearly, we are much weaker in the middle without Barmore, Bentley, Mapu and Takitaki. Also, we haven't extended Wise. One must question how effective he would be in 2025 if he chooses to come back. We need DL's for the future.

With regard to EDGE/OLB, we should have added a future stud. However, I can understand that this is more likely to be a top draftee. We extended who we wanted to. Judon was expendable and not part of the future. We are fine continuing to improve at EDGE with White, Jennings and Uche. If anything, I would extend Uche and look to the draft for another EDGE player.

I'd be ok with us being a 12th, 13th ranked Defense given the guys missing that would be great. Takitaki is on IR.or pup? We also had Barmore, judon, ximmenes, Bentley during the onset of camp. So we had a nice depth chart. I'll say Jennings.. I'm very impressed with.. he's a excellent run player.. and edge setter. Yeah we need to look to aquire some DL help. Do you see a trade possibility?

And they lost to the Jets at home by a similar score 17-3 in the finale last season and a similar offensive disaster. Looks like your hoodied hero sure did a number on the roster.
Lowe, Wheatley Jr., Reiff, Anderson... the OL bust are endless.

I am. How did that so called top 5 defense look last night?
I agree and I'm starting to come down to earth on the defense.. I love gonzo.. but I need to see him take the ball away like I know he can.. @PatsFan2 was on to something...
