Polk instead Kingsley Suamataia?

I don’t best drums.

It’s the job of the front office to improve weaknesses. We have many draft choices and $100,000,000. We used those resources poorly. Our season will determine whether I am right. Many of those who argue we used those resources well are expecting 3-4 wins.
You'll determine on your own wether you think you are right

There is going to be some WR drafted way after Polk that will turn out way better. There will be some tackle drafted after him that will similarly be a star. How do I know this? Because there always is a better player to be found if you can cherry pick the best players out of all the folks drafted later than someone. Always.

Gawd, if Scar was still on the staff, there is no way that the Patriots enter the third round without a solid LT selection

The usual suspects would be *****ing about how they drafted a OT instead of getting WR help for the new QB.

There have been many both here and in the press who have been descrying the team's negligence re the o-line for years. I for one thought all the talk of overpaying for a "proven #1 receiver" was asinine in every instance. I think an adequate O-line is far more important to a new QB's success and development than some snazzy, shiny object fanboys crave. It is also easier, I think, in this day and age - given the sort of game currently played in college - to find good WR's than it is to find that rarest of birds: a gigantic man who can move. It may even be that once the basics are in place - and there is nothing more basic than the o-line - there will come a time when shopping for gaudy playmakers either in a trade or in free-agency - will make sense as a finishing touch for a sound team, but we are certainly not there yet. So I think your observation is unfair, and inaccurate.

for the 3rd time (maybe you’ll answer this time?) who are you talking about?
Okorafor and Lowe. Just having a warm body you can throw out there doesn’t constitute an answer. It’s a mistake…. not a “long term rebuild” which is the biggest steaming pile of excuse making in Patriot Nation.

everything is simple with the benefit of hindsight
I gave a graduation speech once based on my lifelong hobby of writing aphorisms. My thesis was, "Everything is simple to the simple minded." ALL of us, craving clarity, too often settle for the simplistic. I know I do.

I agree that it starts up front and they will only be as successful as the OL is. We also both know that guys will ***** no matter what, especially when it comes to WRs. I was on board with drafting Kingsley in R2, but to say that guys wouldn't complain if they didn't add to the WR room is agenda driven. Guys like to *****.

I don’t think *****ing for the sake of *****ing is the problem. It’s a flawed team building philosophy on the part of the Patriots.

Build from the inside out. Nobody can do their job if the offensive line don’t do their jobs first. We’re building the frame of our house and planning on laying the foundation afterwards… dumb.

Also this notion that we’re only complaining now in hindsight because Sumiata won the starting left tackle job for the reigning two time champs is false. I was here pounding the table on draft day saying they should draft him or Patrick Paul #2 when they were available. It’s not hindsight expertise.

Just watched all-22 from Chiefs/Ravens, once again the tackles from the Chiefs are trash, just like last year and it does not matter. I think we can put to bed the idea you need good tackles to win in the NFL, an OC and a QB with a solid Interior line can win you Super Bowls.

Other than Joe Thuney I think the Ravens starters on the line were all better than the other 4 starters for KC. Thuney was probably the 4th-5th best Lineman in the game with Ronnie Stanley, by far being the best. Pretty much the Ravens line outplayed the KC line by a ton and still lost, that is the NFL today.

BTW, both QB's were under pressure once for every 3 times they dropped back, that's typical in the NFL. Which is why the QB is the biggest determining factor on sacks.

I think all OC's would just study Reid's plays and copy them all, guys a genius OC.

Mahomes is way better passer than Lamar, Lamar had open receivers on EVERY single play the last series of the game, missed all of them. Granted one was by a toe but would not have needed that play if he could just see open guys. Though generally his wr's lacked separation, but not on that last series.

Sumiata was not good in that game and you still want him just because he's starting over the other trash they had? We will see if he gets better but right now he's bad.

That’s not what I asked.

For the fourth time - what multiple under-30-year-old left tackles existed in free agency that they could’ve signed who were available for comparable money and were markedly better than Lowe and Okorafor, as you’ve claimed?

LOL. No question. I've been known to do a little *****ing myself, about all the giddiness over how "nice a guy" Mayo is, for example, which earned me a bunch of "ugh" emojis. So I guess I'm the guy sitting in a glass house casting the second stone. I just thought your point was a little broad, so I thought I'd ***** about it a little. Let *****ery thrive!

Something I have been thinking about too. Interior pass rush has become more and more of a threat the last few years in the NFL. It tells you why really good guards have started getting paid as well as tackles. Fortunately, the interior of the Pats OL looks fairly strong. Andrews is good, Onwenu is an All Pro caliber guard, and Sow or Strange are at minimum solid. Beyond them, Robinson looks like a bright spot as well and there’s a lot of good press out there about the quality of the kid Thomas that they claimed from the Rams. So they’re in solid shape there. Tackle is spotty obviously but Onwenu can handle one side for a little while capably and then you just have a below average LT. I think that’s enough to win in today’s NFL if your QB is good. They should still try to improve it, but it’s not the detriment many make it to be if the middle holds.

Two... Roger Rosengarten was starting for the Ravens. The Ravens and Chiefs were ranked #1 and #2 in the entire NFL in sacks last year. Both rookie tackles gave up one sack, but otherwise played great.

The notion that there were no tackles worth taking past the first round but Polk was apparently a first round talent is total horsesht.

There are new regime apologists who will be telling us for the next five years that we have to wait a little longer to be good.

"Wait until next year," the perennial loser's lament.
I didn't think they played great. Mahomes and Jackson were great, moving around, avoiding pressure, running, or throwing on the run.

If it had been someone like 2023 Mac Jones back there, both of those OLs would have looked bad.
