I dont buy brissett as a lateral move. Yes he isnt flashy and he wont win you any games but IMO he is the perfect guy for this year. He knows the offense and is very safe with the football so he will make the right read and put it in the right place. Exactly what you need to evalute the rest of the offense to see who fits with the long term plan. I expect him to go 17/25 for 200 yards and a TD most games. Average to below average qb play yes but the kind that doesnt lose you games like Mac did consistently. I honestly dont care about wins and losses i just want to see smart well executed football that gives the coaches a chance to figure out who to keep, who to cut, and what needs to be brought in for next year when Drake is starting game one. I hope Drake doesnt start until the bye for a couple reasons, gives him a chance to adjust to the NFL without the pressure of starting and all the other moving parts a chance to settle and gel so we set up our future with the best possible chance of success. Even doing that i voted 6-7 wins because of the defense winning close games the offense doesnt lose like last year.

What I've hears about Drake is the guys gotten better each day, and has looked the part. Now the dog days of camp will test him and I'm sure he'll make rookie mistakes. Also this is a totally different offense that provides opportunities for big plays, and works off the QBs strengths.. I'm looking forward to camp!

You also aren't guaranteed to have that #3 overall QB start next year. You might have Brissett all season who is a lateral move on the field and only a real improvement as a lockerroom guy.

QB was a problem. It was far from the only problem. There were multiple other units ranked very low across the league that held us back.

The OPEN issue is whether the negative posters and media are right about the rest of the team, or whether Wolf and the coaches are right. If these fans (and the media) is right, we should have a top 5, or at least a top 10 pick. After all, keeping almost all our key players shouldn't improve a team much that is weak almost across the board. If the team is right, we could be close to 50% this year (7 or 8 wins) and be competing for the playoffs in 2025.

Many fans think that the personnel are awful and there should have been and should be a wholesale cutting of veterans at virtually all positions, and the trading of those with value (like Judon).

Apparently, the team believed and believes that we have a very solid core of veterans and young players that need to be re-signed and extended. We did indeed re-sign all of our key free agents and made relatively minor additions and replacements (especially on Defense).

With regard to the CRITICAL deficiencies, the team signed a key free agent and double dipped in the draft at QB, OL, and WR. One year is not enough to address all the problems, but the team certainly made a start.

Special teams are more difficult to assess. However, in Marcus Jones we return one of the league's top punt returners. Bolden was a top kick returner in college; he also returns from IR. Finally, the team has brought in a place kicker, who seems to be at least average. If Ryland can't beat him out, or even if he can, we should have an improvement in the kicking game.

Spot on. Even with so many questions. I have more belief that we are set up better for the future of the franchise than the direction we were headed the last few seasons.

Good to see rham getting and extension, I hope to see peppers next. I really like that the players can be themselves and not robotic, if you're free to be you then that typically translates to better all around production.

Because for this year it’s not just about the best QB, it’s about setting up the best team around him going forward. Look at almost all of the top 20 QBs of all time, they sat for a year to learn, develop, and not have that year 1 pressure to be the man. Look at the cautionary tales of Andrew luck and David Carr. Young QBs that get hit too much too early before they are ready for it. Even Brady took time to figure out how and when to get the ball out in a hurry making his oline look better than they are. For me it’s the longer term goal of having a top 5 qb in the league rather than a top 15 or 20. I want to avoid all the mistakes made with Mac, give Maye some time and consistency to really know the playbook inside out and backwards, with weapons that aren’t rookies figuring it all out at the same time. I LOVE reading about Maye, Polk, and Baker staying after each practice as a group. I think the three of them could have a very bright future but being impatient and rushing it before the rest of the team is at that level can lead to bad habits. Your absolutely correct, and everything you mentioned is spot on. I really guess it would all have to come to the state of the o line, the team around maye projects to be pretty solid.. he's gorgeous an excellent RB group with rham and Gibson.. some nice pieces at WR actually a pretty deep WR group.. a great TE in Henry and a solid veteran in hooper.. what's really going to help Drake is the coaching.. AVP is great with QBs.. that's the guy I want in Drake ear.

What I meant about competition is the head coach has mentioned countless times that everything is about competition. So that alone will get the best out of guys. Mac just lost his way.. he didn't trust what he was being coached and he didn't trust his eyes on the field.. ultimately no matter how talented a QB is if your turning the ball over your never going to help your team. I'm all for Drake taking his time and settling in.. it going to be an interesting camp to say the least.

Ok I can buy that 40%.. to clarify my post. The entire offense was 90% of the problem.. some people can nit pick on the defense all they want but this defense was on the field so much it's a miracle they held teams in the red area.

So now it's all about Drake, letting him continue to settle in to the NFL, and hopefully polk and baker can grow along with him.

And being coachable. Tom also has the insatiable desire to learn.

And to work. Plenty of historically typical Patriot messes and disasters happened with Tom, and each and every time he bore down and worked harder. That may be his greatest example and legacy, refusing to pout and feel sorry for himself.

Agreed. Disasters with Tom.? Trying to really muster up what I can call a Disaster as after witnessing what we had to the last few seasons offensively. Warner was special and he did it with special HOF players to his credit and did it again in Arizona. However the goat did it with less, more pressure on him and his GOAT HC to always push him.

So thinking back in our 2 decades of winning.. I'm trying to really think on what I can honestly day was a disaster in my mind compared to the last few seasons. I appreciate everything we achieved wins, losses.

TBH I think we will win at least 7 or 8 games, possibly less...and possibly more.

But even if they're right, as long as there's long term investment and development, we could win 1 or 2 games and still be in a strong position to compete seriously as early as next year, particularly if we draft well.

They are betting on an experiment to pay off. I’m all good with as long as Drake isn’t taking snaps at any point this season. Let’s keep him protected, draft a left tackle next year, and then start thinking about winning games.

No, our LT tackle situation isn't acceptable. But, it should be an improvement over the end of last year. Lowe is back and Anderson and/OR Okorafor should be better than McDermott.

So, we have a top 5-10 Defense, improved because we bring back key players from IR: Gonzo, Judon, Jones, and Jones.

On Offense, first, I should note that Lowe started much of last year, and we have two experienced veteran OT's that we didn't have last year: Anderson and Okorafor. I would argue that at we are least a bit better at LT.

In addition, our QB play should be at least as good as it was last year. At WR, we will probably bring back Bourne for most of the year. Douglas should be better in his sophomore year. And, of course, we have 3 additions, including a solid veteran in Osborn. We could be better, but we certainly should see better play from our WR's.

Clearly the front office is willing for this to be a "play the young guys" year and set themselves up for a top 5 pick next year.
The lack of free agency and trade activity tells you what the general manager thinks about this year.
Its a chance for Mayo and Maye to get their toes wet.
Combine all of that with a very tough schedule and we are talking about 4-6 wins.

There is just too much inexperience and lack of proven talent at key positions.
