With the Klemm stuff - I am kind of inclined to think that’s ********, but even if it’s true, I don’t know what Groh was supposed to do about it. The issue was tackle, Bill didn’t sign any good tackles in free agency. Not up to Groh. In the draft, Bill went defense repeatedly and didn’t take a lineman of any kind until the middle rounds, and mostly ignored tackle. Closest he picked was Sow who was a maybe as a tackle conversion - didn’t work out, he had to be a guard anyway. Groh couldn’t control that Bill didn’t draft any tackles. So not sure what Klemm would have wanted Groh to do. For all we know, Groh had lots of tackles rated highly and Bill ignored all of them in favor of Gonzo and Keion White - who obviously were solid picks but leaves them with an issue at tackle, still.
I don't know how Groh had them rated, but someone reported that Belichick felt that the top tackles in the draft and in FA were overrated.

I’m not here to debate the pros & cons of the rule, as I know it can be a contentious topic. But, it does seem to me that if you are to have a rule in order to level the playing field, the Rooney rule candidates should be public, as being linked to a job might lead to other opportunities.
The dog and pony show that is the Rooney rule search criteria has lead to a pool of the same guys being interviewed over and over in order to demonstrate compliance.

It's become a joke because when you do see the same names over and over, the idea behind compliance loses it's importance. The guys getting dragged in to show compliance know this, the teams know this and the NFL knows this.

Is it a level hiring process when everyone playing the game is in on it? Nah, it's just for show. The NFL needs to rework, to what I don't know, that if they are really serious about efforting a change.

Until they figure it out, that transparency you refer to is meaningless.

Wolf was/is our “De Facto” GM since Belichick was let go. So, basically it sounds like we had a guy on a “job interview” making the most important decisions for the future of the franchise who now appears will be replaced. Not for nothing, but if the decision makers were indeed pleased with results during Free Agency and the Draft, would they now be conducting a “search” to replace our De Facto GM? And if ownership is not pleased, should the team’s fans be confident going into this season? Thank goodness we have all those cap $’s for the next “decision maker”!
Rooney Rule. They have to do a “search.” Many others have mentioned this. Wolf will be the GM.

Absolutely, I get it rules have to be followed and it's only right to do so.. but however I believe wolf has earned it.
The "rules"...

The NFL is so insular it limits the pool that they draw from... they themselves make what ever requirements they stipulate meaningless.

How many times has someone honestly and truly kicked the door to the coaching or executive club down? Doesn't happen.

So yeah, the job belonged to Wolf before the process even began. Everyone else is just playing along with the charade

Agreed. Unless in wich I doubt because Bill held the job, that there was a succession clause like McDaniels and Mayo had. From my understanding the succession clause is legal as long as it's ran by the NFL first therefore the rule doesn't come into play. I know this is done all over the NFL, with people already given the job without allowing other qualified candidates an opportunity. I do know the NFL owners are a group of elitist that all hate each other, but stick together when they have too while telling the 50 million dollar man in Goodell what to do.

Think about that... Succession plan... That should be viewed as a contraindication to the Rooney Rule... But as you said, it's allowed by the NFL...

Agreed, the NFL owners call the shots and as long as it's legally allowed they will continue to do whatever they want. Yeah the succession clause is a " iffy" topic. The way I interpret it is.. if a qualified minority is the successor then the owner doesn't have to abide according to the rooney rule. I'm not a Harvard law school professor, but I believe it's something along those lines...

I'm guessing they'll need to actually interview someone and can't just say "well we tried" if a minority candidate turns down the interview.

It's apparent that the plan all along when Bill was fired was for Mayo to be HC, for Wolf to be GM, and for Wolf to influence the assistant coach hires. Kraft is guiding that process along to dot the i's and cross the t's to satisfy the league hiring guidelines.

Nothing controversial here - Wolf was ready to become a GM and we're lucky to have him. I think the same can be said for Mayo and AVP, and I like Groh too. They all learned under a master in Bill Belichick, and Wolf also had prior experience with his Dad.
