BGC 2024 WR/PTP Thread

Jonah Williams? From the Bengals? The left tackle turned right tackle finished the campaign with a 59.1 overall PFF grade, good for 82nd among all NFL offensive tackles. 82nd among all offensive tackles? Hard pass.

Yes! In our scheme he could be competent

I think Captain Stone likes him too. The Bengals moved him from LT to RT because he was bottom of the league at LT in 2022. He was not much better in 2023 at RT. T Brown is rated higher at tackle even with his injuries. Bengals are letting Jonah go. No thanks.

Speaking of upgrades, seems like the up coming draft is full of guards and right tackles again after Alt and Fashanu. Not sure how they are going to address the LT if they don’t draft one of them. Maybe Guyton but he played RT for a lefty so we’ll see. But I’m all for one of the 3 centers to work under Andrews for a year. The kid out of Oregon Jackson Powers Johnson, Georgia Sedric Van Pan and WV Zach Frazier seem like great upgrades. Also like the guard from BC Christian Mahogany although he played rg.

Yeah, with much better leadership at the OL coaching ranks.

And here’s a thought. Moving Cole Strange to LT. What do you think?

Compare his measurables to Matt Light’s.

His athleticism and now gimpy knee means he should be operating in space rather than dealing with the Quinnen Williamses and Ed Olivers.

Wat do we think of Xavier Worthy in Texas?

He's skinny, like someone else we know. Explosive speed and good stats for Texas this year.

Yeah, with much better leadership at the OL coaching ranks.

His height (or lack thereof is concerning)

Unfortunately they may not have a choice. Not a big fan of Strange’s progress so far.

Strange is a backup center or guard at best. BB was clearly drinking when he made that choice

Strange has been solid and getting better when he was healthy...He is a starting OG as of now...hopefully can develop a little more...Flashed a ton, especially his rookie year

Did you by any chance miss your last several eye doctor appointments????

Strange was good the last couple of games before the injury. Not sure if he can hold up or not. Still has trouble with bull rushes, but pulls and run blocks well.

I have not heard anything about the knee injury. I assume it was an ACL but the OL wear knee braces so it seems unlikely that he would tear his ACL but it does happen (Mankins). If his ACL is torn, he will not be able to train for 2024 and I don't know how good he will be after 9 months of rehabbing versus training.

I want to see who can beat him out at G. I don't think that player is on the roster yet.
Not that it has anything to do with WRs.
Honestly, I think Sow has the footwork to be a better left guard. Meat of this draft for oline is in the guard and center positions. I’d take a shot to upgrade and give Strange and Andrews strong competition.

The Pats started Jake Andrews in the last game. Good sign. Andrews, Mafi, and Sow might be keepers. We need tackles.

I'm pretty torn on Andrews. Could he be upgraded? Certainly. But he's the brains of the o-line operation and that is extremely important with the constant personnel movement there.Add to that he's tough as nails.
I wonder if an immovable oaf if preferable. If your assessment of Sow is accurate maybe push Strange in to the Center spot?

Of course we need tackles but unfortunately we’re throwing darts. All of all the would be tackles last year only 2 started at LT. Wanya Morris drafted in the 3rd round and Jaelyn Duncan drafted in the 6th. Not saying not to try but these guys certainly don’t grow on trees. Aside from Alt and Fashanu they need to do a lot of homework.

They need to start thinking about upgrading Andrews. 3 or 4 really good centers in this draft with solid pedigrees from good programs.

Jackson Powers Johnson. Oregon
Sedric Van Pran. Georgia
Zach Frazier. WV
Drake Nugent. Michigan

Andrews is the brain trust but he’s at the point in his career he could get to training camp and just decide to call it quits at any time. I’m not banking on Jake Andrews just yet, I want 12 guys in camp going at it to get this thing solved.

They thought it was a weak tackle class and they were right. Maybe that means something.
