Are we a quarterback away from being good?

Question. How many rebuilding years are we going to endure? I'm of the mind I don't care at this point who the QB is or will be I just want to see good QB play, conducive to winning football. It's no longer about Mac he is not long for this team. His story is Over and done with.

Be it Zapp, a rookie, a vet.. someone . I just want winning football back in NE
Rebuilds typically take a long time, especially rebuilding from having been a dominant franchise. You are competing against 31 other teams also trying to get better. It’s not a matter of willing it to happen and it does.

Rebuilds these days aren't the Rebuilds of old. Get the right QB and a team can quickly become a contender. There are plenty of examples of this. The issue with us is we looked as if the team was rebuilt in 2021. However we now know we didn't have the QB we thought we did.

Give a few examples. And how many got the right qb right away?

Cincy, Houston, need I say more?
Cincinnati was never a top team and were rebuilding for 6 years.
Houston was also never a top team, had Deshaun Watson have been pretty much rebuilding forever and are now 7-6 and out of the playoffs as of today.

Never said they were just making a point that when a team finds the QB that's all. No organization in any sport will ever replicate the longevity of success we sustained.

Getting a good player at an important position would always make a team better, but you were responding to a post that says rebuilds typically take a long time especially when you are rebuilding from being a top team. And that rarely they get it right immediately.
Naming 2 bad teams that eventually got better doesn’t address that.

I named 2 teams that found QBs 1 went to the superbowl and the AFC Championship last season. Where have we gone other than backwards?

You named one team that rebuilt for 6 years and made it to a SB and another that is 7-6 after many bad years and high draft picks.
In response to “rebuilding typically takes a long time”.

Your original question was how long does a rebuild take. Those examples don’t refute that it typically takes a long time.

What does “where have we gone” have to do with this topic? We are just another example that rebuilding is hard and takes time and usually has setbacks.

Ok..........

Cincy was not good immediately after getting Burrow. They were 4-11-1 the year after they drafted him and didn't really take off until they got his favorite WR

Your correct. Was just making a point or what finding a QB can be for a franchise that's all.

The difference in the case of Bill is that his years without the top QB have been very poor, 4 of 5 losing seasons poor to be exact, both here and in Cleveland. All the other top coaches didn't come near that when they didn't have top QBs.
His record isn't good, but no reason to make it worse than it is. He's had 3 winning seasons without a top QB, 1994, 2008, 2021.

The losing seasons all happened during rebuilds.

I'm definitely not making any declarations about Zappe's longterm potential. I simply said we saw much better QB play than we saw all year and magically the offensive line and the injured weapons group looked significantly better.

With a great QB and the entire group of weapons we started with on day one of this season, this team would be battling for the AFC East. The offensive line was shaky the first two weeks, but got right in week three when they got everyone back healthy.

I find it odd how people here argue vehemently and often how important the QB position is in football, but when you point out how Mac has been absolute trash... they argue the opposite... that weapons make the QB.

Certain posters would rather say "BB sucks" than admit with a great QB this would be a good or even great team.

We saw much better play for one half. And it was against a team that was dominated by the Cardinals the week before.

And people are overrating that first half. One drive was 11 yards. Two of the best plays were plays that should have been broken up by the Steelers or even intercepted. I talked about the Henry play. But you also had the Juju Smith-Schuster catch where he had to catch it through a defender and was well covered in double coverage.

Hopefully, the offense has turned a corner. But we have seen really bad offenses have specular single games. Look at the Bears against the Patriots. Their offense truly sucked last and they still scored 33 points against the Patriots.

You cannot take anything away from one half of football. If this becomes a trend, then we can talk. But until it happens, we have to assume the other three halves where Zappe started where the Pats didn't score a single point is closer to where this offense is.

Exactly how I saw it as well. Zappe is having his time to shine now, and show he can be the back up next season. I expect this roster offensively to look drastically better come next season.

It helps. But I don't know if Burrow is the best argument to make when the big divide is whether we need more skill talent to compete even with a QB in place. Burrow needed the skill talent to back him up to actually elevate the franchise.

Agreed. I believe we need both. The cupboard is bare. We need the QB and the players around the QB.. not just 1 guy but at least 3 difference makers at the skill positions.

2 WRs on the outside
3rd down back

I am afraid that the first half of the Steeler's game was Zappe's version of Mac looking ok against Buffalo. I turned on the game in time to see the Zappe channel his inner Mac with an interception and a throw the ball straight into a DB's chest. The Pats were lucky to win that game.
