Tom Curran: Sources made 'clear to me' decision to move on from Belichick made after Germany game

I’d put the Indy game in Germany down as the one Kraft realized Mac sucked and let BB know he no longer had to extend Mac a long leash to get himself right.

If Kraft was exercising owner privilege to give Mac as much time needed to fix himself, he finally realized the futility of it all.

Since then BB has been a full go on the sideline chatting Zappe up mid game, and he looks energized. If Zappe plays great the rest of the way and BB doesn’t get canned we can assume this probably happened.

He brings defensive acumen. Great but that's not what the team needs now.

He might be "his own man" but he's only learned coaching from one guy. The guy that's presumably going to be fired in a month. More than likely he'll use what he learned from BB which is a system that, again, hasn't worked post-Brady.
I disagree. Look at Houston he has done wonders with CJ. We will only know what he will be as a HC once he becomes one. It's a difference from using what he learned from BB as opposed to trying to be BB.

Phat Matt, Judge and Josh McD both tried the hardo BB approach and failed. What makes you think Mayo will do something different or try the same approach?

I would guess Mayo see the offense needs a lot of help and would do something about it. H's not a dumb guy, he seems to be very intelligent.

BB's not dumb either so why have they had the worst offense two years running and are using high draft picks of defense?

Kraft choosing Bill over Brady will go down as an unmitigated disaster.

Brady goes out and wins a Superbowl and makes the playoffs every year in Tampa.

Meanwhile the team with Bill gets worse every year and bottoms out as a bottom 5 team
You can't win the Super Bowl every other year. Long in the tooth players go out the door, you start over. People that think the Patriots success would've been endless with Brady seem to have forgotten 2019.

Go look at the huge exodus of players that left.

I say this all the time: 99% of the players on this team joined AFTER Mac joined. Anyone who believes the Patriots would've competed for the SB with Brady didn't watch 2019, and isn't looking at the roster.

As for Brady making the playoffs "every year" he played 2 years in Tampa, and that was a loaded roster.

You guys never seem to really hone in on your criticisms of Belichick by saying something valid. Here, let me have a go: out of all the players who left the Patriots since their SB teams, Belichick made a huge mistake by not keeping Joe Thuney. By giving Shaq Mason a big contract over Thuney, Belichick kept the less talented guard!.

That's the kind of thing you should be saying.

Otherwise, losing Edelman, Hightower, Thuney, Mason, Cannon, McCourty, James White, Trey Flowers, Van Noy, Chung, Gilmore, the good JC Jackson, Roberts, etc.

This was always only ever going to end in tears. Sorry, but teams don't lose 13 veteran starters and studs and easily recover.

That's how you build a champion. Instead of taking Quentin Johnston or Jackson Smith-Njigba, you take Christian Gonzalez. Instead of taking Jayden Reed, Rashee Rice or Marvin Mims, you take Keion White.

Great players are how you win championships, whereever they are on the field. Teams that are just filling needs are taking a short-term approach and will forever flirt with .500

Who was Curran “having conversations with”? Not sure I buy it. Curran hasn’t had good sources in quite a while.
A janitor and a cafeteria worker.

If BB is the one responsible for Corky Mac OK.

I do not trust him finding a franchise QB in the 2024 draft and BB may as well pack up and go. I have a hard time buying that BB did not see that Jones has a weak arm and is a baby.

I guess that explains why you just voted to keep Belichick on as GM and coach.

arch: even if it's Mayo he won't be given Full Control like BB I think those days are officially over the HC/GM dual Title.

Even the habitual losing teams in the NFL have seen their valuations increase by 15X since 1994.

No question winning helped but it wasn't the only reason the NEP went from 172m to 7b

I agree that all franchises have gone up in value, but the Patriots went from one of the lower valued franchises to 2nd behind the Cowboys.

I mean everyone has heard my conspiracies by now but yeah. I think Bill knew but Kraft twisted his arm and said we need to give him one more year with an OC he's comfortable with. So Bill set it up for Mac and kept playing him until he was a shell of himself, then pulled him for Zappe who is probably a quality backup at best but looks better and more confident than Mac despite the system being set up for Mac and not him, and playing with worse receiving talent, even though the narrative all year was that Mac is bad because he has no weapons.

I am not sure I agree with that completely I think those WR's are going to be very good.

I love the Gonzalez wand White picks.

I think the pearl clutching is unnecessary. The Krafts have had three head coaches in their tenure as owners - all won Super Bowls. All had great nicknames: The Big Tuna, Pumped and Jacked, and Darth Hoodie.

So who's next? My money is on Eric Bienemy. He's tough, has Super Bowls under his belt, has experience as an OC. And he's African American which would be a great statement to the NFL.

He could also be in line for the Redskins job unless he messes up the interview.

Ultimately, no one can speak to what kind of head coach Mayo will be until he becomes one

All I'm saying is imagine the unlikely but possible scenario of Caleb Williams being the quarterback next year with Mayo the coach, Gonzalez and Judon coming back, 4 picks out of the first 100 in the draft, getting a couple of stud lineman and a good wide receiver, free agency dollars to spend too. I'd be excited for that season

I may be in the minority but I think the Bucs roster was over valued, what did that talented roster accomplish before and after Brady?
