Tom Curran: Sources made 'clear to me' decision to move on from Belichick made after Germany game

I think the pearl clutching is unnecessary. The Krafts have had three head coaches in their tenure as owners - all won Super Bowls. All had great nicknames: The Big Tuna, Pumped and Jacked, and Darth Hoodie.

So who's next? My money is on Eric Bienemy. He's tough, has Super Bowls under his belt, has experience as an OC. And he's African American which would be a great statement to the NFL.

Kraft choosing Bill over Brady will go down as an unmitigated disaster.

Brady goes out and wins a Superbowl and makes the playoffs every year in Tampa.

Meanwhile the team with Bill gets worse every year and bottoms out as a bottom 5 team
After Arians got a Super Bowl the Buccaneers fell apart.

Brady and the OC would form the game plan all week and Arians would show up on Friday with a red marker and delete away. Yeah, Tampa made the playoffs. Who was the genius that left Cooper Kupp running loose?

Said it years ago; This league blows. When TB and BB are gone so am I.
We've been halfway there for a while now and it's been a struggle. Watching games with music on because the broadcasts are a constant torrent of nonsense. Every other commercial is for a drug with incels dressed up as hipsters riding different colored inner tubes.
Players acting like the Rockettes after every play.
Players groping each other for twenty yards down field before the ref renders his purchased judgement of the foray.
No hitting in the off-season, practice, pre- season, regular season and playoffs.
Every support campaign aimed at anything but straight men.
Charging the military for "Troop Support."
Inviting gambling into bed.
Most importantly; the transition from sport to entertainment.
It sucks.
Man is that spot on in every way.

I remember hearing an agent many years ago who determined that athletes would make a lot more if they dropped the name athlete and starting to look at themselves as entertainers. That also came up in an article I read about Fox's move into the NYFL in the 90's. Let me see if I can find that. Yup, here it is. It's very interesting but long.

Bill isn’t going anywhere. Kraft isn’t going to pay two coaches. The only way Bill leaves is if another team wants him in a trade.
The Giants would take BB today and I believe a 1st round pick would not be out of the question.

Wow
I would believe every word she says

Kraft has done a good job by not meddling with BB. He built a successful program and drafted the goat.

Like it or not BB deserved the chance to do it on his own without Brady. We have to keep in mind that it was other worldly freakish what Brady was able to do at his age.

Given the chance, BB was not up to the task of building a contending team without Brady. His indifference and ineffectiveness towards the offensive side of the ball is glaring. Thinking he could get by with some bargain bin OTs and spending the top 3 picks on defense clearly shows what his priorities are.

The crap show that our special teams are is another major indictment especially given how much roster capital he commits towards it.

I wish things ended better here, but It's time to start over

Who was Curran “having conversations with”? Not sure I buy it. Curran hasn’t had good sources in quite a while.

Ask yourself why this is put out now, rather than later. I will give Curran the benefit of the doubt here that he does have sources telling him this. Who benefits from this getting out there now?
The Krafts. They are testing the waters. Remember all those leaks and interviews about Brady earned the right to decide when they did not even offer him a contract?

I am not believing Curran ever again. That said I hope BB and Kraft have a gentlemans agreement that he will relinquish his duties and just Coach. Let somebody else shop for the groceries. I don't think BB at his age wants to go a new organization leaving one he himself built.

If BB is the one responsible for Corky Mac OK.

I do not trust him finding a franchise QB in the 2024 draft and BB may as well pack up and go. I have a hard time buying that BB did not see that Jones has a weak arm and is a baby.

The thing about him is that he's interviewed a ton and hasn't landed the top job yet. So it does make you wonder a bit

I'm not sure why everyone is so set against Mayo. He seemed like a coach from his rookie season, has learned from other good coaches, and the defense is performing well, whatever the split is between him and Junior

It would be strange to go from Belichick being a god to not wanting anyone who has anything to do with him, I'm not sure if if I get that leap

If BB's system were working, the Pats were trending up towards competing and BB decided to retire because of his age, I wouldn't mind Mayo as HC just to keep the successful system going.

Since that's not the case, why would you want to continue a system that's not working and hasn't been working for a while now? Mayo's a defensive-minded coach and this team has the worst offense in the league and has struggled to keep up with the rest of the NFL what it comes to offensive play.

Well, it depends what Mayo brings to the table. If his only plan was to "continue the system" then I would agree with you. But he's his own man, and I can't speak to what other skills he might have. Also, as a man he's always seemed impressive, so that's a start

Kraft bought the Patriots for 180 million, now they are worth 7 billion. Winning is what made them the all that money. Belichick and Brady had everything to do with that.
Even the habitual losing teams in the NFL have seen their valuations increase by 15X since 1994.

No question winning helped but it wasn't the only reason the NEP went from 172m to 7b

I just think the way the seasons gone and with 4 games left, ownership is trying to appease the fan base and sponsors. They will put out another letter like they did last season. So we'll see how serious they are about building another contender. The structure of this team is built by Bill how does the organization undo this is my question.

Agreed, I've posted that many in the organization even Bill himself have eluded to the fact that mayo is his own man walks in his own shoes. He's a guy that can command a locker room, a guy that can get people on board. If it is in fact mayo wich I believe to be true then I'm excited to see what he can be as a HC.

He brings defensive acumen. Great but that's not what the team needs now.

He might be "his own man" but he's only learned coaching from one guy. The guy that's presumably going to be fired in a month. More than likely he'll use what he learned from BB which is a system that, again, hasn't worked post-Brady.
