Mac and the "It Factor"

Why are you downplaying Zappy breaking Joe Burrow’s collegiate passing TD record? Now that’s an accomplishment worth celebrating so I’m surprised you’re downplaying it. Don’t worry Mac will lose his job to Zappy the future GOAT, the guy who went 2-0 last season and who has the combine cannon arm by week 4. Put that in the bank.

You're in.

Make Bozo proud.

Well if you don’t want to celebrate Zappy’s amazing 2-0 season last year.. you know the same guy with the cannon arm in the combine… then I will do it for Zappy. It’s worth celebrating man, get with it.

Dead battery in your little car?

Brady didn't have the IT factor when he was playing here in 2019. Mahomes didn't have the IT factor when Kelce was out week 1 or when his line sucked in Super Bowl 55. Allen didn't have the IT factor before Diggs came to town.

I could go on and on, but the fact is, other guys need to do their job to complete these game finishing drives late. People just aren't being realistic about how talent devoid the offense is and how much of an issue it would be for anybody you could plug in at QB. It's been like this awhile. We had 2019 Brady, 2020 Cam, 2020 Stidham, 2020 Hoyer, 2021 Mac, 2022 Mac, 2022 Zappe, and 2023 Mac. All of them had pretty similar outcomes.

At the end of the day, this just isn't a winning offense. I'm fine if you want to get rid of Mac, but you should realize the next guy is being set up to fail in this same system and if Mac wasn't the problem and he succeeds somewhere else, some heads are going to roll.
But...but...but Wins and Losses are a QB's stat! There's no signature win! He can't throw more than 3 yards down the field!

He's been playing well. Did not pull off the long-shot comebacks in weeks one or two, but not necessarily al his fault. He was the best quarterback on the field tonight (low, bar, but still). He made some big plays. But late in the game with the lead, they could not get a first down to seal the deal. I'd probably put a lot of that on conservative play calling, which proved successful.
I REALLY want to see a game winning drive, or a game winning play to extend a drive, or hell, some seemingly impossible heroics. He doesn't have to be Brady, and I think some of the anger he has within him, that comes off as petulance, could be tapped into, Feel that anger, Mac. He needs a touch of the Brady/Jordan thing. The Russell thing, the Lombardi thing. It's never too late to discover a chip on your shoulder.
Good to see you on here.

I liked how mad he got on the sneak after he got slammed down, along with the fact that he didn’t want to come off the field on that 4th down. Seemed like he was ready to rip it and I also wanted to see it, so I was disappointed they punted there.

Would love to see him hopefully have a big game indoors in Dallas next week. Looking forward to seeing how they handle it.

It is a QB stat
There isn't a signature win either lol
Mac's fine he limited the turnovers vs a elite defense and made the plays that he had too
The season is still long, but as of now he's still just meh

IMO Bill clamped down on this game as a must-win, which is the reality of the situation. To his credit, we won, and our run game rolled on to the end.... but this game should not have been this close.

Most of us can see how good Mac is from play to play, but I understand your questioning of the "IT" factor. I'm gonna guess that he'll have a chance or two later this season to show what he's got to unleash in the 4th from behind. I believe there will be good results, but I'm aware I could eat crow.

He was a ****head on that play, and I loved it. I think of Rodney and other athletes that push the envelope of wimpy play that the NFL has created.

To the OL, if your QB is going to get physical and **** with the entire defense, step your game up and start beating the **** out of people.

Great to see a win. No doubt. The defense played their ass off and was fantastic.
Clearly BoB and BB have zero confidence in the OL and I mean zero. After Mac got pushed backwards in the face and body slammed to the ground, the decision to punt the ball and not go for it certainly sent a message to the OL that the coaches think they suck and can not compete....which for the most part they is true.
However not great for the OL confidence or the RB's or Mac. Probably was the right decision because they probbaly would not have made it...but just saying it sends a message to the OL.
Until the OL improves and starts to occasionally work as a unit and push people off the ball, there is no chance this offense will start putting up 30 or more points a game. So better get used to 15-25 at most.
The OL play is foundational to any offense's chances for success. We will know when the OL has improved when BoB and Bill are willing to go for it on 4th down against a solid defense.
Need the draft and FA spend to put together a top tier OL that can stay together for a few years and dominate (like the Eagles).

He is probably the most bland QB I have ever seen. I mean just there. I have seen crappy QBs show fire and fluke into game winning drives but not this guy.

He has played what - 36 or so games and how many game winning drives? I think 1? I know for certain that if we are behind and have the ball on last drive we would not win.

He is serviceable but that's it.

Not going to give any definitive (year 5 contract) prediction until the season is done. At the moment though it's tough to say the jury isn't out on Mac. I liked him in college (where he was 3rd string until Hurts transferred to the Sooners and Tua got injured). Yes had explosive receivers but there is nothing stopping the Pats having explosive receivers but we choose not to. If you look around the NFL (in general) either the QB is the difference or its the receivers i.e. you can't be average in both areas and we are. Lets be honest our offence was **** in Brady's last season and other than parts of Mac's rookie year it's been **** ever since. Too many JAGS. Not enough difference makers. BB still thinks he can outsmart the NFL but those days are over. Either get Mac some explosive weapons OR get another QB who can make explosive plays on their own. Has to be one or the other. Still pulling for Mac but the pressure is on over the next 14 games.

alot easier to get explosive weapons. and sometimes those explosive weapons make the QB better.

case in point you mentioned Brady's last season. where he looked bad and most of this board said he was done. left went to Tampa and put up 40tds and a superbowl. so talent matters even for the goat. its been 4-5 years since then and Bill hasn't addressed receiver yet.

i keep bringing it up, and no one ever answers it. but if Mac is the issue here. what other QB can we throw in with this line and these receivers that is going to light it up? I think most know the true answer is it will be the same or worse. but its easier to blame the QB than the guy picking the groceries.

fans been screaming all offseason our OL and receivers are not good. now when it comes to fruitation during the season everyone acts shocked and blames Mac Jones.

Exactly. If the GOAT struggled to put up 20 points with JAGs why does Bill expect Mac to light up a defence with JAGs? Makes no sense. We need to be so precise on every play with almost no room for error otherwise drives stall. Other teams have more room for error because elite receivers are always going to get open eventually and allow even JAG QBs i.e. Cousins etc, to make plays.

And then for some reason fans expect Mac to light it up with those JAGs as well. the offense isn't built that way. defenses arent scared or parker/bourne/juju and rightfully so. look at parker running in quicksand on that deep ball? a receiver with more talent grabs that.

unfortunately unless Bill shifts his philosophy its going to be more of the same. he's building teams based on a bygone era. he wants to run the ball, and win 15-10. unfortunately our OL is bad as well. despite the yards stevenson still only averaging like 3.1. ypc yesterday.

TBH Bill started this in 2018. we forget how bad the offense looked after the steelers loss. sure we won a Superbowl. but it took a heroic effort from brady to get us there as we shifted to a run first team. and the offense skill palyers have been poor ever since.

thats almost 6 years of JAGS

parker/bourne/juju
Maybe I'm being harsh but I'm getting Sanu vibes from Juju i.e. seemed a good idea at the time but looks completely washed. Just no spark. His stupid block should have seen him benched. A horrible waste of money at this point.

But bill got him for cheaper than Meyers! thats all that matters. winning the deal...

just like Hopkins....titans got him on essentially a 1 year contract. but Bill had to win the the deal. cant extend for anyone...

then fans can pat themselves on the back how smart Bill is because he gets guys for cheap. well you get cheap production too...

We really have to put a moratorium on 2019 talk among this fanbase. It's so utterly stupid to boil down Tom Brady's entire career to "well, when he had **** around him he struggled to score too". I mean, as bad as everyone thinks this collection of skill players on offense is, it's still MILES better than what they had in 2019 when their only weapon in the passing game was an Edelman that was so broken down he basically threw his career away in order to be available for them that year. They ended the season throwing passes to Elandon Roberts and giving Ben Watson real snaps. Injured Edelman/Harry/the ghost of Sanu/rookie UDFA Meyers/Ryan Izzo/ 40 year old Ben Watson is markedly worse than the current group.

The 2016 squad and their 5 most targeted players Edelman/Hogan/Amendola/Bennett/Mitchell are more comparable to 2023 than 2019 was. Mike Gesicki is their 5th option on offense now, he'd be number 2 with ease in 2019. The 2013 weapons were worse than this (remember, Edelman had never been a starter before that year) and they were 8th in offensive EPA/Play. The 2006 weapons were worse than this and they were also much better on offense than they are currently. Let's please stop using 2019 (a season that was already very strange off the field with Brady having one foot out the door, the Antonio Brown situation and everything that surrounded it) as this constant excuse for the current quarterback. Brady would do much better with the guys they have now. That should be obvious to this fanbase. Can we please stop bringing up Tom Brady when this current iteration of the offense wins 33% of its games when the defense allows more than 10 points?

I hear you but my point was perhaps more general. The offence did stink in TBs last season, for whatever reason i.e. our offence has been **** for the best part of 5 seasons and it's getting ridiculous.
